Well, I'm the type that feels we should debate the topic at hand. I'm not concerned about past opinions expressed. Take a person's comments for what they are at the present.
Ok... and she used the words "are often corrupted", not "always". However, when you read the responses, you would have thought she said the latter. To say that it's just as likely for a woman with power to screw around as a man with power would, is disingenuous. Men are driven by sex far more than women. For every one woman of influence that has been caught in an indescretion, I could produce the names of fifty men.

Not that this conversation really matters to me one way or the other. My experience on this board is that we cannot have any meaningful discussions about male/female relationships, so I usually avoid them when they come up.

However, I've grown tired of the hypocrisy around here. Whenever a female member makes any type of negative comment about men in general on this board, in comes the swarm. How many threads or comments have you seen on this board that degrade, objectify or complain about women? On the other hand, how many threads or comments do we have, expressed by women, that do the same? Little to none. I also find it hypocritical on the part of some of our male members to cry male bashing when women are repeatedly referred to as ho's, bitches, sluts and chicken heads (my fav), when being described on this board, even when it's not warranted. I guess those are considered modern terms of endearment now.

With that said, it matters not to me whether the men here are truly cognizant of their offensive behavior. Generally, I stay out of conversations that offend me and I typically do not call out other members. But I've honestly had enough. What's good for the goose is definately not good for gander around here.
You make good points. But reactions to her comments don't necessarily need to be seen as man vs. woman. For example, I responded to her general generalizing (if that makes sense), nothing really deeper than that.

But it should be noted that, as hooskins says, your previous reputation does carry weight here. Fair or not, it does. Had you made those initial comments the reaction would have been much different. That it came from someone who just a few months ago swore to never return here and incorrectly believing people were conspiring against her triggered a different response from many here.

Maybe we can't have a conversation about male/female relationships in which we can vent on men because besides me, you (Lady Brave) and Hess, there really ARE no daily active women on here besides us. How are you going to complain about men TO a bunch a of men? I'm not saying the Hess' statements aren't correct, but I think it's kind of a pipe dream to say, "Men of power have the tendency to cheat" and then have the men not back up their own?

To me LB, the statement "Men are driven by sex far more than women" says that men are pretty much slave to their animal tendencies and thus cannot be expected to be monogamous. Which, while some are, most aren't. Everyone has the urge of instant gratification but like I said in a previous post, fighting that urge is dependent on the will of the individual. And that sexual urge is the same in males and females. Why do you think kids are getting pregnant younger and younger these days? They haven't developed that resistance yet.

As a woman, I throw around the term, "ho" and I call my female friends (those who I know don't care about the word) "bitch" and yes, it has become a term of endearment and though it probably shouldn't, that's just what it's come down to, because we as a people have become desensitized to the words.

But I have nothing against Hess' comments, after learning about feminism, I support it (some of it). I don't know Hess' background of "male-bashing" but of course when you're stating an opinion about males, to males, expect a little support and a lot of backlash.

Yes it does, considering the majority of those who responded negatively were men. There were very few exceptions. No one has yet to explain why they didn't have a problem with saden1's comments.

It's pretty easy to gain a good reputation when you rarely confront those who offend you. Perhaps I turn a blind eye too much.

I'm not concerned with hess' past at the moment and I'm not here to speak for her. I've just noticed an all to familiar pattern here and felt I should address it.

Well the ratio of men to women here is pretty high, so it's not surprising that the majority of responses would come from me.

Now I can't speak for others, but to me the difference between Saden's comments and Hess' were that Hess seemed to say this was a serious problem particularly with "men in power". And my feeling was that's oversimplifying things. But it was nothing personal against her.

Well, looking back through the thread, there were only two or three responses that contained the words bashing and haterade. Perhaps I keyed in on those responses the most. I still stand by what I said though. I didn't have a problem with anything you said. You were the only one who was truly trying to create any type of meaningful dialogue.

Lady Brave,

I actually didn't see saden's comments when I responded to hess' post. No offense to hess, but I sometimes feel that she makes sweeping generalizations about men and labels nearly all of us as adulterous and unprincipled. Not to pick on her, but had you or DynamiteRave posted the exact same thing I probably would have read the post and simply moved on.

I certainly didn't mean to make a big deal out of hess' comments. I'm sorry that we're even discussing this. I also want to apologize if I've made dumb, immature posts that objectify women or turned a blind eye when others have.

Thanks SGG. I'm really not as worked up over this as I might sound. No apology necesssary.

I just wanted to remind people that given the amount of generalizations expressed about women on this board from day to day, you guys shouldn't be so shocked and appalled when one of us fights back a little bit. ;)

This is a non story. Sex is legal, selling is legal. Why is selling sex illegal?

Who is the victim here? What great loss has occurred, that will justify the money the FBI will spend to find out whether or not this guy got his pole waxed?

I'm sure his wife and kids don't think it's a "non story"

Either way, let's not kid ourselves, had this been Elliott Spitzer (R-New York) you'd be ranting and raving.

Re: Gov. Spitzer Linked to Prostitution Ring

I take exception to that. His party has nothing to do with it, I didn't think that guy in the airport bathroom was a big deal either and he was republican.

I just think what 2 (or more) adults do behind closed doors is their business, as long as no one else is hurt. I think we have too many laws on the books that have no purpose other than to regulate morality.

I didn't have any problem whatsoever with what you said, but one could interpret your comments as sweeping generalizations which is what hess was accused of. If hess had made the comment, "it just goes to show you that men will go to any lengths for a piece of ass", she most likely would have gotten pummeled for it.

Quite frankly, I want to know just what a woman has to do to justify $5,500/hour. I mean, I know I've been removed from the multiple partner scene for some time now, but I have had some pretty remarkable "experiences" in my day. As for those that did not have some additional emotional tie - there is not one that I would pay that kind of money for.

This conversation is very interesting and entertaining.

Look, I'm not a big Spitzer fan by any stretch of the imaginaton but at the end of the day here's a guy - a man - that has to put his life back together. And whether we take exception to his actions or not, there should at least be a shred of sympathy for him and his family.

It's so convenient for us to get on a board, disect one's personal life, provide commentary and cast judgement. Whether it's male bashing or female bashing, what we're really doing is human bashing. Look, this guy screwed up - big time. But let's not make him out to be the worst individual of all time.

With all due respect, I do not find you a "strong woman" by any means. In my honest opinion you seem to be very insecure and almost all your comments take shots at people or groups of people. To me it is a sad cry for attention which honestly makes me feel like vomiting.

I don't know why this cannot be discussed here, because as SS said your previous statements leave an impression whether it be right or wrong. Just as you might think I am an immature douchebag who will become a typical "man", I think you are an insecure person and both those impressions come from previous posts.

I consider Lady Brave a "strong woman" for bringing up her concern in a proper way and backing up her points with rational arguments. And I agree with SS that if she brought up the point before you did I would definitely not call her out because I respect her intention of posts and I am sure many will agree.
