Re: The Washington Capitals superstar Ovechkin gets his 60th goal tonight!
Was about to start a new thread then I saw this one. GO CAPS! Gotta love the 2-0 1st period at home. Good to see Jason Campbell give some love to the CAPS to. BOOOOOOOO. 2-1
Yes that was a nice half time special guest......with the GoCaps from JC! Cans started the 2nd off with that pesky Walker getting one, where was the call (hate to be like that but Ray Charles could have seen that!). Caps 2-1 |

Power play to 5 on 3 Canes and then goalie interference to 4 on 3. Insane. Nice breakway Caps..damn close. Lets Go Caps we need this one. 2-1 Caps still; commercial. |
Re: The Washington Capitals superstar Ovechkin gets his 60th goal tonight!
Get Al Smokin Koken out of the player box. What a tool. Get outta there!

I've edited the title of this thread

Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
Thanks to the lesser known ALEX......Caps 3-1 end of 2nd. Power play to start the 3rd for the home team.
If the Caps can pull another WIN off and tie this division up with the Cans this is HUGE! The Cans play again tomorrow night, back to back we don't......advantage Caps IF we WIN tonight. Which I do think we will hold them off and get this one. |
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
One man on the planet....How bout THE GREAT 8....dents the twine again! 63 and counting!
Caps 4-1 closing minutes in the 3rd! 5 game win streak coming up....and tied for the lead in the Southeast, HUGE WIN. GO CAPS! |
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
what a good game by the caps. nice, solid victory.:woot:
|
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
That's 9 outta 10! Defense and Huet were awesome tonight. Outshot them by 17! Now we play Tampa and Florida, both games in DC, with both opponents playing us on their second night of a back to back. I want that 3 seed...

Not now!!! We have been getting better. Lost Hatcher and Gagne for the season. I saw and talked to hatcher on sunday and is knee is screwed. I am neighbors with Danny Briere, and he has been scoring goal after goal lately. |

Tell Danny boy lay low on the goals, we like it when your losing! But heres the bad news for philly those goals need to convert into WINS not LOSSES, Don't get me wrong keep up the good work on the loss front. Really it is gonna be good in the Eastern conference with The Caps, Cans, Bees, Philly all fighting like heck to get a playoff spot. But all I care about is the CAPS! GO CAPS!!!!!!! :) |
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
Big game tonight for the Cans.....they can help out the cause with another loss at home.

Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
Philly's loss to Pitt tonight greatly helped out the Caps' cause. Us and Philly both have 2 games left, and because Philly didn't secure a point tonight in their loss to Pitt they are still standing at 91 points. We need to win both our remaining games, but if we beat TB tomorrow night and secure 2 points we will move into the 8th spot because we will be 1 point ahead of Philly. If Philly wins both of their next two games then we are probably screwed, so we are gonna need them to lose at least 1 of them to help us out. Theoretically we could still get the 3 seed if Carolina loses its' final game but there's probably a good chance they'll win since they are playing TB.
In order to get the 3 seed Carolina would have to lose its' final game and we'd have to win both of our games. There's always the small possibility that Ottawa continues their slide and lose both of their final games which would let us in provided we pick up 3-4 points in our next two, but if they win 1 game out of their next 2 that's out the window. If Boston loses both of their next two theoretically we could get in and put them out, but that's a tough scenario too. I'd say there's a slim shot of us getting in, but the odds of us taking the 3 seed from Carolina or pushing Ottawa, Boston, or Philly out are all roughly close. All of these odds are dependant on us winning our next two though, if we fail to collect points in either one of those games we would pretty much be f'd in the a. |
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
I've never watched more hockey in my life than in this past month.
Really enjoying this game that I really haven't learned to appreciate until just now. Gotta love the Caps run! |
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
These guys are on fire, it has been a BLAST to watch this team grow and play at this level game after game. Lets hope they can get two more, starting with tonights HUGE game against Tampa at Verizon. If this Caps team can get in the playoffs anyway they will be very dangerous.
Looking for another RED OUT tonight! GO CAPS! |
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
Everyone here is getting high hopes for a team that, if they make the playoffs, will have to face the Mighty Pittsburgh Penguins, Division champs may I add. No matter though, either the caps or the flyers will be making an early exit from the NHL playoffs, and you can take that to the bank...
|
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
Well even though I haven't watched the Flyers vs. the Pens, I was looking at their record against each other this season and it's been pretty evenly matched so far. I know they lost to them last night but anything can happen. My wish is for the Caps to take the 3 seed so they don't have to face the Pens in the first round lol, Caps vs. Pens hasn't exactly been an even series to date, they've had our number for a while.
Besides, 8588, when the 'Skins were going on their run and everyone realized that if we did make the playoffs we'd be playing at Seattle in the first round did that stop anyone from getting excited anyways? Tbh, as it grew closer and then I finally confirmed that we would be playing Seattle in the first round I had hopes, but I wasn't getting my hopes that far up anyways, and after our defeat there I can only hope we don't have to play there in the playoffs again, playing there is like Kryptonite to our Superman. |

I'd be scared to play the Caps if I were any team in the NHL right now. Solid nucleus of good young players and a few vets who know how to win plus the best player in the league at the moment. Oh and a goalie who is kicking tail. It still is a big question whether they even make it into the playoffs though. |
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
If they were that good then there would be no question as to them making the playoffs, and Sidney would have better stats if he didn't get injured. The caps may be getting hot right now but not to worry Crosby and the very underrated Evgeni Malkin will put the Flyers or maybe the caps in their place and send them packing. Here me now and believe me later, PITTSBURGH PENGUINS YOUR 2008 STANLY CUP CHAMPS!!!
|
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
Not sure why you think anyone thinks Evgeni Malkin is very underrated...he's 2nd in points behind Ovie. And as far as Crosby goes and his better stats if he didn't get injured...if your Grandma had balls, she'd be your Grandpa. Can't base anything on what if's, especially how many points some punk kid from Nova Scotia is going to score IF he stays healthy.
Not sure I'd want to face the Caps right now, the way they're playing hockey. They are on point, and it's a shame that they couldn't do this from the start of the season. Should be some great matchups in the playoffs once the dust settles. |

CAN'T BASE ANYTHING ON WOULDA COULDA SHOULDA'S, fact is the Caps are just getting lucky as the season is coming to a close. And besides that they are in a weak division. Not to worry the Caps will be sitting at home watching the Pens dominate the playoffs... |
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
Lucky? C'mon man. Even if you're not a fan of the team, it seems pretty ridiculous to say they're just "lucky"
Are you talking about the same weak division that's won two out of the last three Stanley Cups (and been in three of the last five)? |

Are you talking about the same weak division that's won two out of the last three Stanley Cups (and been in three of the last five)?
ZING! Great point. We've won 9 outta 10 and we're 35-17 since Boudreau took over as HC. 35-17 is a significant stretch making up just about 2/3 of the season. Luck my ass. Not to mention since we traded for Huet, Federov, and Cooke, we've been playing lights out hockey. No way this is luck. On the contrary actually. I'd say the first month of the season was a fluke. The Capitals since firing Hanlon hiring Boudreau are the real Capitals. Also, WHEN we make the playoffs we'll be the first team ever to be in 14th place at any point in the regular season and still make it to postseason play. GO CAPS! |
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
Not sure how playing hockey at a .600 clip since Thanksgiving is considered lucky...
Since February 1, the Caps are 17-7-3, which is about the same level that the Pens have played at (18-7-4). They have 2 quality goaltenders with playoff experience to run the gauntlet, and they have this season's best player (if not the best player in the league). This is going to be one tough hombre once they make the playoffs... |
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
Nothing to worry about the weither it be the Flyers or the Caps, the Pens will dominate in the first round.
I am talking about the weak division that has 2 teams under .500, 1 team just above .500, and only 2 teams with 90 points or more. Unlike the very difficult Atlantic Division where 4 out of the 5 teams are above .500 and well over 90 points. GO PENS!!! |

And that is from a Bruins fan. So, that just goes to support my logic that now that the PENS have their SUPERSTUD SID THE KID back along with the underrated Evgeni Malkin the PENS will dominate the playoffs. That's true...I know I don't want my Bruins to face the Pens. I know we don't "really" have a shot, but you never know...hey the Giants won the Super Bowl, anything is possible!!!! (except of course the Wizards beating the Celtics in the eastern conference! hahaha) |
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
This is turning out to be a tight one, as expected. With Tampa having nothing on the line and just getting crushed by the Cans they would love to hand out the upset.
We need to come out and play our very best in the 3rd and get these 2 points. And hope Ovie is OK, if anybody can come back out and play hes the man. Hopefully just a burner. 64 goals and counting for the GREAT 8! Maybe one more tonight...? To seal the deal...... GO CAPS!!!!!!!! |
Re: The Washington Capitals Playoff Stretch Run Thread
Yea we HAVE to finish this game. Need those 2 points deperately. Lets go Caps! The great 8 will be fine, just put another one in the net (top shelf peanut butter) and end this one!
