Re: Saints After Shockey?!
I like Kevin Boss as a TE but will be very happy that we will not have to worry about covering thier #2 receiver (Shockey). Boss is slow enough that we can put Fletcher man up on him and pick it off every time with they try to go to Sinorice...

Re: Saints After Shockey?!
Shockey is coming off a broken leg injury, thats a tough one. They can certainly be career changing or even ending injury.
With that said the Saints must feel very confident if this trade goes down he is recovering and making all the right progress to be ready to go this season. If thats the case. I'm glad we won't have to face him twice a year, he is a big threat when healthy. |
Re: Saints After Shockey?!
In unrelated news to Shockey. Saints and Ravens to possibly make a deal?
RAVENS, SAINTS TO SWAP PICKS? Posted by Michael David Smith on April 26, 2008, 12:02 p.m. With just three hours to go before the start of the draft, trade talk is getting fast and furious, and John Clayton of ESPN reports that the Saints and Ravens could make a deal. The Ravens want to draft a quarterback and they don’t think they’ll be able to nab their first choice, Matt Ryan of Boston College, with the eighth pick in the draft. That would then lead the Ravens to try to trade down and select their second-rated quarterback, Chad Henne of Michigan, and Clayton reports that they’d be willing to take Henne as high as 10th, the pick the Saints own. That would be viewed as a major reach by just about every draft analyst, but according to Clayton, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. The Saints have made no secret this week that they’re willing to buck the recent trend of teams not wanting to trade up in the draft. New Orleans seems to think that it needs to bolster its defensive line and that the top four prospects — Virginia’s Chris Long, LSU’s Glenn Dorsey, Ohio State’s Vernon Gholston and USC’s Sedrick Ellis — will all be gone in the first nine picks. One stumbling block in such a trade happening is that the standard draft trade chart would call for the Saints to throw in a fourth-round pick to make such a move, but the Saints have already traded their fourth-round pick to the Jets. |

True Blue: No shock here: Saints back off
No shock here: Saints back off New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis admitted Thursday he's no longer in pursuit of a deal for Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey, citing the Giants' trade demands. Prior to the draft, the Giants reportedly had asked for a second-round pick and safety Roman Harper. “It’s no secret we had some discussions with them and we just couldn’t come to a conclusion on the right compensation,” Loomis told Sirius NFL Radio. “I understand that. He's a very good player and the Giants don't want to just give him away - unless they feel like they're getting really good value. “But for the most part that’s dead ... I don't anticipate that being rekindled.” Guess they aren't after Shockey anymore. |
Re: Saints After Shockey?!
If I were the Giants I would have taken the Saints' 2nd rounder and ran with it.

Re: Saints After Shockey?!
PFT.com
SHOCKEY SPEAKS Posted by Mike Florio on June 8, 2008, 9:52 a.m. The “I want to be traded” playbook has developed a new wrinkle. If a players asks to be traded and isn’t traded, then he acts like he never made the request. The latest example? Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey, who clearly wanted (wants) out of New York and who wasn’t traded because the Giants and the Saints couldn’t agree on terms. “Everybody said that I agreed to get traded and that I would welcome a trade or that I’m unhappy,” Shockey said, according to the New York Post. “But you can’t find one article that had my direct quote, except from an anonymous source or from this person or from that person, OK?” So the absence of a direct quote from Shockey means it wasn’t true? If anything, Shockey’s comments about the Giants strongly imply that there’s a problem between the two parties, and that the Giants were yapping about it to the media even though Shockey chose not to do so. “Unlike the Giants, I’m gonna be quiet,” he said. “They’ve released multiple things about myself and if you look back into the media, there’s always a source. Well I’d like to know who the source is, and we’ll go over here and we’ll deal it out ourselves because I haven’t said one negative thing towards the Giants.” He wouldn’t talk about whether he’d welcome a trade. “I’m not saying that — no comment,” Shockey said. “Whatever’s happened between the Giants and myself is gonna stick between the Giants and myself.” Shockey also said that he’ll attend the team’s mandatory minicamp and, presumably, training camp. “I plan on fulfilling my contractual obligation but the No. 1 thing that I’m going there for is to be with my teammates [who] I miss so much,” Shockey said. As to the scene of Shockey double-fisting alcoholic beverages from a luxury suite while his team played in the Super Bowl, Shockey claimed that the Giants wouldn’t allow him to be on the sidelines, and that the decision upset him. The real question is whether both sides can find a middle ground. The Giants presumably opted not to accept New Orleans’ best offer because the Giants realize that they’d have no depth behind Kevin Boss if Shockey were traded. And Shockey’s salary is very reasonable in 2008. So the challenge will be to keep Shockey from becoming a problem in the locker room. Or, to be more accurate, to keep him from becoming more of a problem than he’s been in the past. |

Possibly the end of the road in NY for Shockey...?

Re: Saints After Shockey?!
IMHO............I think it is the end of Shockey and the Giants.People are tired of his me,me,me attitude.I won't do this or that...yeah I still believe he is the best overall TE in the game but he can't stay healthy and Eli seems to do better without him in his face.I say Send him to Cinncy for a draft pick, keep him out of the NFC and but him somewhere cold!:cheeky-sm

Re: Saints After Shockey?!
i don't know how anyone could says he's the best with gates, winslow, and gonzo around.
hell, in the nfc east, i'd taken cooley or witten over him any day. his attitude is part of his game, and it doesn't make him a better player. |

If you read what I said ,I said "Over All",the others are good at one thing or the other.Right now I too would take Cooley...Shockey is a head case.

Re: Saints After Shockey?!
It would be great if they let him go! At the very least it would be great if he holds out of training camp for a little bit and the Giants bench him for week 1! This guy is a real good tight end...........With him out of the game all you have to do is double up Plax, stack the box and see if Eli can beat you! We all know he can't!

I'm not sure how well that take holds up anymore considering he won a Super Bowl. |

It holds up very well. Eli got lucky! I mean, that dude catching the ball on his head! Come on, that was complete luck. :) |

The two second half drives against us in week 3 that led to TDs weren't luck. All thos eroad wins last season weren't luck. Don't let your hate for the Giants cloud your judgement. Eli is a very good QB. I admit I was totally wrong about him. He has all the tools to be a HOFer. |

Not really. Consider how well he played throughout the playoffs and don't boil things down to one play. Even then I wouldn't call it luck, he did a great job at escaping the rush and keeping the play alive to just get the throw off. |
Re: Saints After Shockey?!
Shockey for Chad Johnson trade? :D
|
Re: Saints After Shockey?!
^It would solve problems for both teams (and create new ones). :)

Re: Saints After Shockey?!
He also led the league with 20 ints in the regular season, and had a mildly unimpressive 6.3 yards per attempt to go with a totally unimpressive 56.1% completion. Those numbers border on Grossman/Tavaris Jackson/Brodie Croyle levels.
I tend to think that there is something sustainable about his maturation in the playoffs, something real about it, but is it possible he was playing a little over his head throwing only one int in the playoffs, considering he threw about 1.25 per game in the regular season last year? |
Yup............and that brings me back to Shockey how is a bad rout runner and is soley reponsible for Eli's Viking game.He drops a ball and then gets in Eli's face...he's a fool. |

Oh, you mean the pass where the Pats had like three guys on Eli and some how he brook free and then rolled out and made that throw. OK it was all luck. Not luck. Eli has had his ups and downs and when he got to the playoffs showed he really could lead the Giants which he did. Now will he build on this or fall back to an average QB? Right now as SB Champs I cannot say he was just lucky with the playes he had to make. They did beat a team that had won 18 in a row and one that stomped us into the ground. |

Okay, OKay. He might be a little good, but without Shockey he really only has Plax to throw too. Thats it! It would really hurt Eli and the Giants if they let Shockey go. Anyone who says otherwise is just kidding themselves. I can't wait to see how this plays out once training camp begins! :headbange |

Who are Tyree and Boss? Anyway if you think your 50% passer is the next best thing with or without Shockey then you can go on and keep thinking that. |

Is that a serious question?! David Tyree is the guy who made the ridiculous catch in the Super Bowl with Rodney Harrison draped all over him and Kevin Boss is the backup to Shockey who came up pretty big in the playoffs and showed flashes all year. Are you kidding me? "Who are Tyree and Boss?" Do you watch anything other than Redskins football? |

I'm not disagreeing that Tyree isn't that good, he might not even make the team, I was just letting you know who he was. As for Boss, while he's no Shockey, he can block and he's relatively effective in the passing game. I'd take him over an overrated headache any day of the week. I can't stand anything about Jeremy Shockey, I do respect that he plays hard, but the guy's and asshole who's game still isn't where most people wanted to be when he was coming out of college. He basically peaked in his rookie year. For me, Jeremy Shockey is way more trouble than he's worth. If he were somehow a positive influence on his team he'd be a great player, but he's not worth keeping because he can't keep his mouth shut. |

Just stop dude. Talking trash to the Super Bowl Champs is pretty pointless. At the end of the day they still have the rings so that's all that really matters. |

I mean, I like the guy and all, and was happy for him that his team won a SB, and he played phenomenal in the playoffs and all, but you are right, he's still Eli Manning. Eli isn't somehow a different player now that he has a super bowl victory. He's the same Eli Manning. Perhaps a bit closer to his prime now than he was a year ago, but I still feel like he's capable of holding the Giants back in the future. |
Re: Saints After Shockey?!
I don't think anyone really thinks that Eli has somehow morphed into a top notch QB. But last year he played well enough down the stretch to get the job done. Most importantly he didn't turn the ball over, and that's what the Giants need from him. Will he keep that up next year? Who knows.

Re: Saints After Shockey?!
I was debating whether or not to post this pic.... When Eli was a senior at Ole Miss, my girlfriend (who was a senior at Florida at the time) and some of her friends went to the Bahamas for spring brink. Alas, I was back in Gainesville working and couldn't go. Anyway, they were staying at the same hotel as Eli and some of his Ole Miss goons. My girlfriend said he wore these retarded rolled up nut-hugger jean shorts as a swimsuit. The first day she thought maybe he had just lost a bet. But he wore them everyday! Check it out: (my girlfriend Brooke is just to the right of the chick in the middle, and it's a scanned photo so the quality isn't great).
