Yeah, it's some wishful thinking that they will move on but at least they have something actual to report now. I'm pretty sure though that this will put the Jets/Redskins preseason game on the NFL-N next Saturday. That'll be pretty sweet for 4 of the 5 Redskins preseason games being nationally televised! |
Re: Favre to the Jets
Glad it is over. Hopefully the media can move on now. Agggghhhh, I am so FARVED out.
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
I am definitely Favre'd out too, thank god this is almost over. Yeah we'll be seeing reports updating him in New York but at least we won't be hearing news stories about "Brett Favre sends text message to Thompson, CI says it reads 'thnx for tr8ing me' "

Re: Favre to the Jets
I think he's one of the greatest QB's ever, but I've lost a great deal of respect for him over this. He retires and the forces the Packers to move on and plan the whole offseason around a new QB and then at the beginning of camp he says, "just kidding", and expects the world to just revert back? This is going to end up like the Washington Wizards years of Jordan. Forgetable and laughable
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
No one has mentioned compensation...I would have thought he would have cost a 2nd rounder.
It looks like he only will likely cost a 3rd (if the jets dont make the playoffs) Thats actually quite a bargain for a QB like him. The upgrade is enormous. The Jets did well whether you agree with the strategy or not I wonder who Chad Pennington will actually play for now? Could be the backup for Aaron Rogers! That would be hillarious! |
Re: Favre to the Jets
Madden was on the radio and he was as funny as I have ever heard him. He was playing up the fact that he is a big Farve fan and was just cracking one joke after another. He now says christmas falls on the 20 Farve, Jet Farth, he was signing Brett Farve's back and the defenses are in trouble, hey ya'll, hey ya'll, Brett Farves back. He was just popping one liner after another.

Re: Favre to the Jets
I wonder if the Jets can turn around and trade Favre to another team...that'd be funny. LOL. I really don't think this is a good fit for Favre, the Jets are not a good QB away from being a good team. Then again, the Jets play in a weak AFC East, and if they get lucky against the Patriots for at least one game, they could easily beat the likes of Buffalo and Miami who have question marks for QBs. So who knows. I hope he has a decent season.
I don't think things are going to be that great for Green Bay though...unless Rodgers really pulls it together he's going to be under a lot of pressure and if they lose the public is going to eat them alive. It should be an interesting season for those two teams. Well bring on football!! |

Well that's good for people like me, who can't watch many Redskins preseason games from home. I'd be stunned if the Skins-Jets game was put on national TV. |

Better to the Jets then to the Minnesota..He goes to Minnesota they go to the Superbowl.

Re: Favre to the Jets
Favre is going to be a fish out of water up in NY. IMO there is no way this is going to work. He's got to learn a new offense in a couple of weeks, he's out of shape, he hasn't worked with the wr's at all, his heart doesn't seem to be into it. He should just retire. But what they did to Chad Pennington was just wrong. They sent his ass home on a plane all by himself from Cleveland. I guess that's the cold reality of the NFL.
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
I agree he's got an uphill battle as far as learning the offense and getting on the same page with his teammates. Not sure I agree about him being out of shape or not having his heart fully in it. We'll see how it goes.

Did you see his press conference yesterday? He kept talking about how he will always be a Packer and how he spent 16 great years there. He just kept rambling but he never said anything about how happy he was to be traded to the Jets. He just looked like he didn't want to be there. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. |

He's probably making sure he keeps as many fans as possible, can't blame him for that. Although he brought all of this crap on himself and in a way deserved it, he was right about the NFL being a business first. |

Well with all the drama and back and forth between the Packers I think he just wanted to make it clear that there were no hard feelings. If he really didn't want to go to NY I think he would have just said F it and retired. He clearly wants to play to me and he's got the added incentive of proving the Packers wrong. And I'm sure he signed off on the move before hand otherwise the trade wouldn't have happened. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
Farve will have some magic moments this year & they'll no doubt be all over every media outlet. But overall I think the expectations of what he can do for the jets might just be way out of line.
The Jets had problems right from the time they signed Faneca, Pace et al to big contracts. L. Coles & some other players complained about their deals & said the guys already there should get re-upped first. Now they cut Pennington. How will that sit w/the vets on the team? Farve is used to having the team identity shaped around him, but now he goes into a potentially disgruntled/low morale locker room & has to fit in. Coles & Pennington were friends as I recall & we all know LC can be a diva himself. How will he & Farve get along? He's certainly no Jeff George, but I see too much of the 2000 skins in the 08 NYJ. They're banking on a lot of big name signings. They have the potential on paper to be pretty good, but I see a rocky road to 7-9 wins at best for them. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
I think somewhere around .500 is reasonable for the Jets, with 10 wins being their best case scenario. It's going to take a while before Favre is up to speed in that offense and who really knows if it will be a good fit for him at all? And it's not like he'll have the same quality of playmakers that he did in GB. I like what they did to upgrade their OL and they should have a good running game, so the cupboard isn't entirely bare. Cotchery and Coles are pretty decent WRs. But the jokers that have Super Bowl hopes are kidding themselves.

Re: Favre to the Jets
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the deal. Why would the Jets agree to a 2nd rounder (if he plays 70% of the snaps and makes the playoffs), or 1st rounder (80% of snaps and makes the SB) for only a one year rental? The Jets HAVE to believe that they will make the playoffs with this deal, otherwise, what's the point of hurting the development of Clemens? Did Favre secretly agree to play at least 2 years? Did he agree to mentor Clemens (something he publicly refused to do with Rogers)? I suppose the Jets are just plain dumb, but logic would suggest otherwise. Favre is old and having to learn a new system will not be easy, so year 1 would be a learning process. A struggle from Favre would be expected...so again why give up a good high pick for one year? Does anyone else out there think he committed to a longer term?
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
A lot of people have pointed out (Skip Bayless for one, I believe) that the Jets have ten games on their schedule where they might be favored. That seems like a lot, but that doesn't necessarily make it an easy schedule. Consider that the Jets play these teams this year: New England (twice), Seattle, San Diego, and Denver. Those aren't very winnable games (potentially saving Denver), so the other games where they "might" be favored become must wins if they plan on being a playoff team.
The Jets simply aren't good enough to run through teams like Oakland, Arizona, Cincinnati, St. Louis, or Tennessee -- those mid level teams -- and say, "wow, there's not a loss on that schedule!" With the tough top-end teams they play, 3-2 won't cut it against that mid-level schedule. All of this is also assuming they go 4-0 against Miami and Buffalo, which although they will be favored, likely won't happen. The only games on their schedule I would expect them to win would be Kansas City, and maybe San Francisco. As a personal aside, I'm not convinced the team is remarkably better with Favre than with Pennington. It was only two years ago that Favre single-handedly played the worst football of his career with a young, talented team, and kept them out of the playoffs. There's a stronger chance we see that Favre this year than the one that set career highs last season. The Jets are a playoff contender, but they are still a longshot. Don't we all agree that the Texans and Broncos are still better top-to-bottom team? |

I believe the Jets get a pick back if Favre only plays one year. |

Brett the Jet is a bad deal.
His pride got trashed in GB (and rightfully so). he's got an attitude about that, and I think when the dust settles, he will decide he no longer wishes to play ball.........and give that type of performance |

I didn't see that. Do you know what they would get? I know if they trade him to the vikings, they lose 3 first round picks, but I did not see them getting a pick back if he retires after 1 season. |

I know the numbers don't look that bad, but he made some throws last year (namely an out route against the Bills that was a pick 6) that have convinced me he doesn't have the arm strength to play somewhere like NY. (Bad weather and wind) I think he needs to go to Miami if he hopes to resurrect his career. To close, I have to disagree with your last sentence. I don't have all the faith in the world in Denver, I'm not sold on Cutler and not having Marshall for the first 3 will hurt. As for Houston, I'm also not really that into Matt Schaub, he needs to show a lot this season and I don't like the way they run the football either. That said, they may both have better defenses than the Jets |

He's saying he's happy to be a Jet, but he came back with the sole intention of playing for the Green Bay Packers. Only after both sides got steeped into this ugly mess that, I believe, Brett had to save face and say I just want to play football. I think if his heart is half-way in it, it will surely manifest in the way he plays. Think about it, he came back because he loved playing football. Now he's learning a new system, there's no fun in that. I wouldn't be suprised if Brett still walked away from the Jets to make this the ultimate reality show. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
terrible deal. it's a circus act... new offense for a 39 year old with new (Crappier) players than the team he just left...

Unfortunately, I think you are correct. He walks away. Even though I think he instigated this whole deal jerkin' the Pack around at the end of the season for the last few years, I do not want a great career to end like this. To me, this isn't a particularly horrible trade, but they aren't getting the Favre they think they are. It would not shock me if the Jets made the playoffs, but they (and Oakland) are trying the same methodology to get there, and obviously one or both are going to fail. My last point: I understand your lack of faith in Schaub and Cutler, as more than a few careers have started promising like both of theirs, before crashing and burning. But, just looking at those three QBs: Cutler, Schaub, and Favre, I think that I would be less confident in Favre's ability to learn a new system in a month and still be a shell of his former self then I would be in the continued development of two young, promising QBs. |

I have faith that he can lead them to the 6th seed, but you never know. As for Cutler and Schaub, I think Cutler will continue to develop, but I don't trust his receivers. I read a Scouts Inc profile on Marshall saying that good corners usually shut him down and he abuses bad ones, I haven't looked at their schedule, but that concerns me and so does his suspension. The Schaub situation is different, I've never been a huge fan of the guy and I think the Texans gave up too much as far as trade and pay to get him. I also wasn't encouraged by his injury last year. I'm not saying niether will be good, but they still feel like they're another year away to me, I could be wrong though, they could both step it up this season. |
