LOL,so you were wrong about last year, why are you right this year?
Remember ...........they did win the Super bowl,11 straight road wins and the last being .Bucs,Cowgirls,Packers and Pats...............that's not a hot streak ,that's being GOOD!
Okay...we'll see how it plays out. Feel free to bring this thread up if they do well, I don't have any problem admitting when I'm wrong. I'm still 100% certain they weren't the best team in the NFL last season, but they played their best football at the right time and got a few breaks. I'm not saying that they're not good, those breaks wouldn't have meant anything if they weren't good. David Tyree's catch wouldn't have made the highlight reel if they were trailing by 35. However, I don't see it happening again this year. I think they're in for a pretty big letdown. However, like I said, I could be wrong, if I am, you can bring this thread back up. I will also add: What if they hadn't held the Skins on 4th and 1 last year? They probably would have fired Coughlin and lost that season. And: Do you think they're a better team this year than they were last year? |
Re: Post your NFC East predictions here!
I am generally not one that makes bold predictions, but looking at our schedule i believe we could be anywhere between 12-4 & 10-6. I think our schedule sets up for a big run in the middle of the season, and that gives us a little room to go 2-2 in the first 4 and 3-2 the last 5. We have the offensive talent to put points up, no matter if Zorn is a 1st year coach. He isn't exactly walking into a rebuilding team. Our D (if healthy) can play with anyone.
I have pretty big expectations for this season. this season just seems to have a different, quite confidence about it. No big name players signings out of want, or for the big promotions, Taylor was out of need more than anything. Dallas will win the division 13-3 Giants 8-8 maybe 9-7. Eli didn't have a great year, Defense is what won that championship and I dont think the defense is going to be that dominant this year. Strahan leaves a huge hole on the the left end. Eagles - they just dont impress me like they use to. McNabb can hardly out run his Oline man, westbrook is bound to miss 3 to 4 games, and they have no receivers. the defense is getting old, Dawkins while he is still good is losing some steps. They have good corners, but overall the defense is not as dominant as in years past. |
Re: Post your NFC East predictions here!
Redskins 12-4.......I'm predicting four losses because we have a new coach with a new passing system and he's got all of his new division rivals on the road to start things off. We also have a couple of our key players in Rogers and McIntosh coming back from serious injuries. There is also Landry, who just can't seem to get over his pulled hammy.........He better get better before the season starts! Or we're going to be hurting!
Cowboys 8-8.........Their defense sucks! Their running game sucks too! I almost listed them lower on the list, but the teams they play suck a little more than they do so I was nice and gave them 8-8. Giants.......Can't really predict for this team. They're superbowl one week and then they suck the next week. And then you see Coughlin screaming on the sideline. I can't help but think he's going to have a stroke or a heart attack if he keeps doing that....................I'm going to say 10-6 though, but don't hold me to that. Philly 5-11............Dawkins doesn't scare me anymore and neither does Shepard. Their linebacking corps sucks and so does their line with an exception of Trent Cole. They have, who I believe a Hall of Fame quarterback in McNabb, but not one good reciever for him to throw too...........I know he has westbrook, but that dude is a running back. I was going to give them a few more wins just because of McNabb, but defenses will key on him again this year and probably injure his ass again while doing so. |

With all due respect, the rest of your post is kinda pointless. The Giants were the best team in the nfl because they won the super bowl, that's the ONLY measure we have of who's best. If what you're saying is they weren't the most talented, then I agree fully, but talent alone doesn't make a team. I just don't think it's much worth it to point out a team's flaws after they just won the biggest game of all. It actually kinda reminds me of the 88 Skins. I remember so many fans talking about how that team wasn't that good, could only win in a strike year, etc. Fact is they won & won big. The Giants didn't win w/that kind of margin but they beat arguably one of the greatest teams the league has seen in many years. No need to debate whether they "deserved" to win or not. That tirade aside, I agree w/you about the g-men this year. Just like the 89 skins they will have a tough time putting that kind of season together again. The maxed out last year. Plus they've lost a lot of key pieces and let's not exaggerate about dudes like Kevin Boss. Good TE for a 6th round pick or whatever, but no comparison to shockey. Eli takes too much heat & I think he's a good qb, but he's gonna have a tough time this year & once he does, the NY faithfull will let him know. The G-men deserve a lot of props & they're a great franchise, but I don't see them winning more than 8 games, one of which I'm sad to say will likely be at our expense. |

Re: Post your NFC East predictions here!
The Giants have the schedule to put them in control of the division early on in the season.
6 of thier first 10 games of the season are at home (thats sick)(in contrast 6 of Dallas's for 10 games are on the road). Of those 6 Giants home games 3 are against playoff teams from 2007, but only 2 of those 3 teams had winning road records in 2007. The other 3 teams they play are all sub-500 for 2007, and are not projected to improve dramtically in 2008. |

I hear you, but 11 straight road wins including the playoffs at Dallas, at Green Bay and at New England (Giants were the visiting team at the SB). Not to mention that the Giants were 0-4 against those teams in the regular season. Until they prove otherwise, I humbly give them the benefit of the doubt. |

I'm not sure about that hangover theory. I think that usually applies to the team that loses the Super Bowl. Since 2000:

Rams (won SB in 1999 season), 2000 = 10-6 (opened season with six straight wins
Ravens (SB 2000), 2001 = 10-6
Patriots (SB 2001), 2002 = 11-5
Bucs (SB 2002), 2003 = 7-9
Patriots (SB 2003), 2004 = 14-2 won Super Bowl
Patriots (SB 2004), 2005 = 10-6
Steelers (SB 2005), 2006 = 8-8
Colts (SB 2006), 2007 = 13-3
So the average win total of the past eight Super Bowl Champions in the following year is 10.4. That is the kind of hangover I'd like the Redskins to suffer from. |

No need to debate whether they "deserved" to win or not.
First of all, I never said they didn't deserve to win. I merely pointed out that they weren't the best team last season. Disagree all you want, in my opinion, the best team doesn't win the Super Bowl every season. It takes a lot: peak at the right time, make the plays when you need to make them, etc. I'm not trying to take the trophy away from the Giants, but if they play 10 times, the Patriots probably win 9. The Giants were better on that day and fortunately for them that's the one that counts. That's the one that won the trophy and that's the one that put them in the history books, but they IMO the better team lost the Super Bowl this year. NOTE: I have to qualms about saying that the Patriots beat the Rams when the Rams were better them the year that the Pats won their first title. This isn't all a shot at the Giants, I just don't buy that they're going to be that great this season. EDIT: To add to that, I don't feel like single elimination can ever measure "who is the best." However, single elimination is by far the most entertaining form of tournament so the best playoffs are single elimination tournaments. Most of the time, the best team will win the majority of games that they play a lesser team, the best way to measure the best team would be to have them play a series IMO. |
Re: Post your NFC East predictions here!
This is all based on our offense gelling and the NFC EAST truly being the best division.
(and my Skins bias of course!) Skins 13-3, losing to New Orleans early, Dallas at Dallas, and New York at home after 2 emotional wins Dallas 11-5 with losses to Cleveland on opening day and Green Bay, NYG at NY, THE SKINS AT FEDEX, and Pittsburgh Giants and Phi both at 10-6 with the Giants getting in when Phi loses to Dallas and the Giants beating Minnesota on the last weekend. |

I don't think it makes a lot of sense to compliment them on a 7-1 regular season road record, when their home record was only 3-5. Obviously, that's a fluke. Good teams can win consistently on the road, and the Giants are certainly a good team, but universally, it is considered easier to win games at home than on the road. 5 losses at home is a lot for any team that wants to make the playoffs, and it certainly wasn't a good trend. The 10 game road winning streak also comes with a small asterisk. First of all, the second win in that streak was played at "Giants Stadium," which is hardly a road game at all. 4 weeks later, they got a win over the Dolphins at a neutral field, at Wembley Stadium in London. Sure, they're on the road, but so is their opponent, and there is no HFA. When you look at how poorly that team was playing in December, it's a minor miracle they won ten games and made the playoffs. Then to go on that type of mistake free offense, dominant defense playoff run? We've never seen anything like it, and IMO, those road wins in the playoffs gave credence to a fluky trend because the team looked really good on a national stage. NFC East fans do know otherwise. |

We are all playing the NFC West and the AFC North this season. Those are not 2 divisions that you can label as "power houses" like the NFC East. The BEST record from 2007 from those 2 divisions is 10-6, and 5 of those 8 teams finished the regular season at .500 or worse. Only 2 of those teams made the post season, because they won thier respective divisions. Now if the NFC East were playing the AFC South this season I would agree with you. But other than the disparity between road vs home games and placement of team bye weeks, this is really a cake schedule for the NFC East. Once again our main opposition will come from within our own division. |

I like history too, like the time the Rams went from worst to first and won a Super Bowl ('99). Point being, last year's results are often times only that, last year's results. Plus, those divisions have some stout defenses, and playing defense gives you a chance. I think Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Arizona and Baltimore each have a good shot at beating Dallas. the 49ers are a long shot, but I like Mike Nolan, love Patrick Willis, and think Frank Gore and Mike Martz will get the offense to the middle of the pack. I don't see any team in our division downing that sixpack. I was conservative, but I went through each team's schedule and that's what I saw. I tried to not be a homer, to objectively look at the schedule. I really undersold the Skins, but that is because I don't think we did a good enough job at filling the holes we had last year. I think the Cowboys won't win as many games as last year, simply because they won 13 games last year and still didn't win in the playoffs. This year I think they take a little off the throttle in the regular season in an effort to win a playoff game. There's a lot of pressure on the folks in Dallas, is Wade the kind of coach to handle that? |

I can Agree we are the toughest division in the NFL right now and the 90's but from the late 90's and early 00's this division was as soft as a marshmallow we didn't scared anything.
I would say no matter what division we play, the NFC East is always going to be our toughtest. It always is, thats why NFC east is dubbed as the toughest division in the NFL. Look at last year, three teams from the East went to the playoffs.
Although I concur with you, folks from the AFC South might have an arguement on that. That division also sent 3 teams to the post season last year. Indy, Jacksonville and Tennessee. |
