Mort on ESPN just said that it's a hyper-extended knee but he should be ready to go week 1. They're still going to do a MRI as a precaution.
Man, if that is the case thats GREAT news! Talk about dodging a bullet, that knee was in a really bad position.

But the man hasn't missed a game in some what 130 games or something..? I know thats luck, but great luck to have in this league. On any given snap it could be your last.

I will be looking forward to the presser today, whenever that is?

I've been watching ESPN all morning and didn't hear that. That's music to my ears though. I've hyperextended my knee before, and I know that initially it feels like your leg got blown up. A little swelling, a little limping, but after a week or two you're good to go. Thank goodness. Taylor hasn't missed a game since '99. If he didn't make it out of the preseason for us I would be just sick.

Saw it on ESPN News a little while ago. I had a mild hyper once in HS too and I was able to play the next week no problem.

Mort is usually pretty good too. I'll take his word over, say, Sal Paolantonio. I really, really hope it's just a hyperextension. Remember two years ago when Roethlisberger hyperextended his knee? It looked season ending for sure on tape, and he was fine after a week or two.

Check out the NFL section on ESPN, Mort has an injury update video there.

Jim Zorn has confirmed that an MRI Sunday showed that Jason Taylor suffered only a sprained knee Saturday night in Charlotte.

Jason Reid reports that Taylor, whose knee was hit in a pileup in the second quarter of the Redskins' 47-3 loss, will be out 10 days to two weeks and, Zorn said, the team will proceed cautiously with him. That means that whether he is ready for the opener isn't certain yet. Zorn would prefer, obviously, to have him for the last 15 games rather than the opener.

10 days takes us up to 9/4 so I guess it will just depend on how fast he heals up.

That also means we got ten days to get Colt Brennan ready for opening day. HAHA

Taylor to Be Out 10 Days to 2 Weeks

Jim Zorn has confirmed that an MRI Sunday showed that Jason Taylor suffered only a sprained knee Saturday night in Charlotte.

Jason Reid reports that Taylor, whose knee was hit in a pileup in the second quarter of the Redskins' 47-3 loss, will be out 10 days to two weeks and, Zorn said, the team will proceed cautiously with him. That means that whether he is ready for the opener isn't certain yet. Zorn would prefer, obviously, to have him for the last 15 games rather than the opener.

That timetable would, though, put Taylor's streak starting 130 regular-season games in jeopary. The injury initially looked serious, with Taylor writhing on the ground and screaming. He limped off the field, however, and was treated briefly on the sideline. Then he was taken to the locker room, where X-rays were negative.

Nothing has change with Jon Jansen, who sprained his foot. He could be out a couple of days, jansen said.

Huge sigh of relief. We dodged a bullet there (or two!), no doubt. Very good news.

That's it Jason Taylor is Mr. Fantastic. No doubt about it, only Reed Richards and Jason Taylor could have come out of that pile with no ligament tears. Fantastic news, even if he misses week 1 he will be good to go for week 2 and beyond!

Come on dude, whats wrong with you? So you want one of our starters hurt?

The guy is coming off a major season ending injury, he's always started slow in the pre-season anyway.

Give the guy a chance he has a low ankle sprain, I certainly hope that Jon can pick it up and have a good season and he is our starting right tackle, we do happen to need him to step up. It's not like anyone stood out on the o-line as stellar last night by any means.

I certainly don't won't to see ANY of our guys getting hurt, that in itself is good news!

My point is I think sometimes coaches have trouble coming to terms the fact that a once very good player is hurting the team. In this case I think that Joe Bugel can't make the switch because of his intense loyalty to Jansen. I'm not really wishing anything bad on Jansen. Maybe he will prove me wrong, but I feel like he is just completely washed up. Obviously none of the backups has taken his job, but I would rather have a young player develop as a starter. What's the difference anyways when the starter is giving his best impersonation of a matador.

We can only hope that Jon gets back up to speed. Buges would not keep him in there if he weren't the best player available now on the roster, and he is known as a slow starter. Give him a chance, he's coming off major repairs.

We witnessed last year Heyer and Wade filling in those aren't better options than a healthy up to speed Jansen, which I do hope we see this season.

man this is good news. while i would hope he'd be ready for the opener, it may be better to have him back for those games we have to play on the road. i know the giants game is on the road, but it is just the opener.

Re: Status of Jason Taylor's knee (updated: hyperextended knee)

Even if he is out for the opener and a couple weeks beyond that we would make out. We should let him rest until he's 100% because I don't think he will be effective if he's any less.

We should be glad that we have available this season and rest him until he's ready.

I'm sure this will all depend on how we do in the first couple of games...which given our schedule it may not look good (I hope I'm wrong)

Re: Status of Jason Taylor's knee (updated: hyperextended knee)

Why are they not announcing the results of the MRI. I heard that he is fine and this 10-14 days business, but I haven't heard them say what kind of sprain and whether or not there is a tear.

Everything I read so far just says that he is fine and will need 10-14 days to get better. From the looks of the injury he should have at least some damage that would show up on an MRI.

I like to hear a grade type of sprain or maybe there is a tear in a ligament but it isn't ruptured.

This guy has to have damage that they are not disclosing.

MTK 08-24-2008 11:14 PM

Re: Status of Jason Taylor's knee (updated: hyperextended knee)

10-14 days indicates if there is any damage it's not significant. It's probably a grade 1 if that makes you happy.

Re: Status of Jason Taylor's knee (updated: hyperextended knee)
X-rays taken during the game were negative and an MRI exam yesterday did not reveal damage, Zorn said, so Taylor, 33, could return in as quickly as 10 days. Washington is expected to exercise caution with Taylor, who is beginning his 12th season, which could put his streak of 130 straight regular season starts in jeopardy. The Redskins acquired Taylor, who last missed a game in 1999, on the first day of training camp after defensive ends Phillip Daniels and Alex Buzbee suffered season-ending injuries.
LOL! I think I know what play you're talking about.

I got ripped by a lot of the fans here but I was very very against this trade and I still am. I think all the Hollywood stuff is where his heart is at. Not playing football for an NFC East team that plays in the cold. Just my .2.
