I agree with the premise of your argument: Regardless of any hatred for the Cowboys, I desire the path that helps the Skins' post-season chances the most. The best of all outcomes is that the Skins succeed and the Cowboys fail miserably. Ultimately, however, regardless of the Cowboys' success or failure, I would much rather have the Skins' succeed.

I disagree, however, with your application: At this time of the season, it is pure speculation as to whether a Dallas or Giant win wil be more helpful to us at the END of the season. It may turn out that the Giants' schedule causes them three or four losses and that, after Romo's return, the Cowboys go on a roll (well - after, playing us). In that case, we may well be saying "Damn, if the Giants had just beaten them back in October, we'd be sitting pretty". Alternatively, a good Giant beat down of the Cowboys may 'cause more dissension right before the bye and lead to their final implosion. Right now, it's just too damn random as to who will be the bigger threat down the road.

Realize what a special moment in your life this is: Rare are the times in life that, after a careful logical analysis, you realize you can just ride your emotions for all their worth. In such cases, even irrational hatred is logical. This is one of those times. Since that's the case, just go with your gut and let your Cowboys hate flow for all your worth. Consider it a primal cleansing.

Joe,

There's one issue. Im looking at tie breakers already. The Giants beat us. Dallas has not, up to this point, handed us a loss. With the type of ball they're playing right now, I feel like we can beat Dallas after the bye. Which gives us two wins over them. At best we can go 1-1 with the Giants. It will be a while to see how the tie breaker system is working out, but right now I feel Dallas winning is an advantage Redskins.

All in all, I just want to win the division. Im guessing a Dallas win this week gives us the best chance.

And if the Cowboys beat the Giants and we beat the Giants and the Giants beat Philly but Philly beats Dallas etc. Again, I get what you're saying. Regardless, it's all a giant (pardon the pun) guess as to what division wins and losses will be most beneficial to the Skins. If the records were different, then fine it may be appropriate to say that a Cowboys win will unequivocally be beneficial to us. Given the current records, however, a Cowboys win may end up being worse for the Skins post season chances. Since it can still go either way - HATE THE COWBOYS.
It's worth noting that record-wise the Giants have already played the easiest chunk of their schedule by far. Their remaining opponents are a combined 32-20, good for the tougest second half schedule in football. I think it's pretty safe to say they will drop off a little.

Do I want Dallas to beat the Giants?

I hate the stinkin Cowgirls so bad that if it took them to win the last game of the season so the Skins would go to the playoffs, I still would want them to lose. The Skins should've won another game.

Re: Cheering for Dallas this Sunday.....????

im not as concerned with winning the division as i am making the playoffs. right now were one game behind, and dallas and philly are both two.

i was reading SI.com a couple of weeks ago and i believe it was peter king predicting that the two wild card spots from the NFC would go to the 2nd and 3rd place teams in the NFC East. He used a little joke that went like this.

"2 men are walking in the forest when all of a sudden they spot a bear. the bear notices them and starts running at them full speed. one of the men gets on one knee and starts changing from his hiking boots, to his running tennis shoes. the other man says "you cant honestly believe you will outrun that bear". and his friend replies "nope, i just have to outrun you."

it was clever. he was basically saying we just have to outrun the other teams in the division. now im all for winning the division, but for right now id like to see us keep pace with the giants, while the cowboys and eagles continue to dig their graves. then later in the season we really make our push for the division.

Re: Cheering for Dallas this Sunday.....????

Us older folks would agree cheer against Dallas every time. but.....,and there is always a but,...I have to root for Dallas this week. I'm rooting from a distance...a great distance. Only cause We have already beat Dallas. Yes they will play us harder next time to try and even it out but be honest they are what 2 games behind and I think they are falling off. Westbrooke is back with the Eagle but I don't think he alone will get them over their slumps. They Giants are our only threat. They stole one from us and are only 1 game up.

I hope both Dallas and the Giants slobber knock each other to oblivion but I'd like to see Dallas take this one to even the playing field so when we play them (and beat them) we can be even in the division. We lost to the Giants, the Giants lose to Dallas. Then we have a tie for first place and screw Dallas.

Ruhskins 10-30-2008 11:54 AM

Re: Cheering for Dallas this Sunday.....????

I'm not going to root for Dallas, but I wouldn't mind them beating the Giants. My hope is for the Redskins to make the playoffs and be in a better position than the 5th or 6th seed in the playoffs, that is a priority over hating on the Cowpokes. If the Giants lose this game, then we will be tied with them for 1st place. If we win out the rest of our games, including beating the Giants at home, then we would take the division and could easily be in the top spot in the NFC.

That being said, I doubt the Cowboys can do anything against the Giants this weekend. The G-men are playing extremely well and have had a bit of luck on their side (playing the Redksins and Rams when both teams were not playing well, beating the Bengals in OT, etc. etc.). I think Philly has a better chance of beating them than the Cowboys.

Also, this NYG/Cowpokes game won't mean anything if we don't win against the Steelers, so our team cannot be worrying about this game of course.

SBXVII 10-30-2008 01:54 PM

Re: Cheering for Dallas this Sunday.....????

^ ah, but the Giants had a Slobber knocker with the Steelers though right? both teams got pretty beat up and took a few injuries.

I honestly can't tell if the NFC East teams are all great teams beating up on each other or mediocre teams muddling through. Dallas falling off is a supprise to me due to their scoring ability last yr. Although we all predicted it being caused by T.O. The Giants are the supprise team from last yr and to be honest (I know I'm being a fan) the Giants don't scare me. Yea they won the first game, but I feel anyone would have beaten us. We didn't have our crap together. We weren't ready to play in our new offense. I also believe New Orleans should have beaten us also only because it was two games into the season with a new offense. Now me being a fan ....I say we are better then the Giants we can beat them. but are we going to see the St. Louis Rams ..Redskins or are we going to see the Dallas ...Redskins when we play the Giants?

I used to be the "Hate Dallas type." but to be honest the rivalry has trickled off a little for me over the yrs. Don't get me wrong I hate them but now I look at the games in what is best for the Skins. We are ahead of the Cowgirls and Eagles. How do they say it ...The enemy of my enemy is my friend. I know the friend should be the Giants but for me..next weekend it will be Dallas. for me the Rivalry was huge in the 70's/80's. It's had through the 90's and majority of the 2000's to cool off. unfortunatly. Even the players really don't feel what the fans feel. Hell, player gets cut rivalry picks him up so what. It was blasphemy back in the day. Now it's about money and playing.

I get more pissed at how our fans get treated at Eagles game in Philly then I care about Dallas. Even though their is a rivalry Dallas has some, even a little, class. Philly fans just need to have a boat load of Skins fans show up at one of their games and over run it, take a punch for the team and report the suckers so they can't enjoy the game. lol.

Could be true, but compare 328 yards & 83% completions and 120 yards every week from CP, plus big plays from Moss to Week 1's embarrassing showing. :D

That kind of mentality seems to be prevalent around here. I understand the whole "must hate Dallas" frame of mind. And at this point in the season it may still be to early to give a shit who wins or if it matters between them and the Giants.....but IF and I'm saying IF it ever came down to a Dallas win to further the Skins position in the Post season....Please!
