Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
I think one of the main problems was the fact those stupid ass towels really get you noticed. I bet if ANY team that we played from the NFCE had those towels and waved them all the damn time, I'm sure we'd hear how "full the place was of ___________ team's fans".

Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
I would agree w/ almost everything DCtoAZ said above. I live in Kentucky, and make it a point to watch every 'Skins game, so I know where he is coming from, and it was down right embarrassing to watch that display on TV.
Just as a side note, I was back in DC for a wedding this weekend, and the season ticket holding groom was trying like hell to give tickets to this game away at the rehearsal dinner, and almost nobody wanted them. He finally got rid of them to about the 20th person he asked. I am not trying to let the people who sold their tickets to Steelers' fans off the hook, but I think a lot of this has to do with what a pain in the ass it is to get in and out of FedEx. When you couple this with a Monday night game, a lot of people simply do not want to get home at 1 or 2 am on a workday. Not saying it's a good excuse, but just throwing it out there as a possible explanation
New solution to this delema...have a link on the Warpath for tickets to be donated and people who want them...and tell everybody and there momma about it...if I am ever in town please write my name down. |

Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
I thought there would be a decent amount of Steelers fans at Fed Ex. I was suprised at how many though. We were 6-2, on MNF, at home, and people can't show up. It's pretty embarrassing. I was embarrassed. I can't remember seeing another game where the away team brought so many fans (Ariz v Dallas doesn't count...their Ariz). It was just a real bad night for the skins.
This has nothing to do w/ winning and losing the game. |
Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
Lots of season ticket holders sell off tix to a game or two and use one of the various Internet ticket brokers as the intermidiary. Tickets sold through that kind of mechanism does not allow the seller to identify the rooting interest of the buyer. So if 10,000 tix to a game at FedEx go on the Internet and Steelers' fans hop on that opportunity quickly, there will be 10,000 Steelers' fans in Fed Ex for that game. The ticket sellers won't know until they turn on their TV sets...
Simple solution: All the folks here who are so offended about having all those Steelers' fans in FedEx need to go to places like Stub Hub and buy up all the tix to future Redskins games. That will put them in "friendly hands". For the record, I had the opportunity to score two "premium" seats for last night's game but had to turn down the chance because I had commitments early this morning and I probably would not have been home before 2:00AM had I gone to the game. I have no idea who got to use those seats or what their "rooting affiliation" may have been. |

However, that being said, I feel that people also need to show a level of respect coming into someone else's stadium. If someone was swinging that f-ing thing in my face at the game last night, they would have gotten jacked in the eye. Wear your jerseys, wear your hats and shirts, but when you come with all this fucking regalia is when you're crossing the line. |
Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
I know a lot of people love the conspiracy theories and corporate sell out rants but the fact is that a lot (and I do mean a lot) of people from Pgh live in DC and were in their seats rooting for the Skins at the last home game but since it was the Steelers they rooted for their home town team. The will be back in their seats rooting for the Skins at the next home game.
BTW, its not that Steeler fans travel well, its that no other city that size has seen people move away like Pgh and where ever one goes in the country there are lots of ex-Burghers living there. I travel a lot with work and everywhere I go has a Steeler bar. I have not encountered that kind of nationwide following for any other team exceppt maybe dallas. The difference I find is that the people at the Steeler bars actually used to live in Pgh while the dallas bars are populated with cowboy fans that never lived in dalas. IMO, because of the Pgh diaspora, the Steelers (not dallas) are America's team. |

A college friend had season tickets in the notorious 700 level, and I never had problems wearing burgundy and gold or cheering for the Skins. As long as you're not totally obnoxious, their fans will leave you alone. That said, trying to make noise when the Philly offense has the ball would not be a good idea.

Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
Funny last year when I had season tickets I could not find all these redskin fans to buy my tickets at my cost. So I had to sell the ones I was not using on Stub Hub or craigslist. What I should have asked to see their skins ID or something. If you have a problem with that then go out and buy the tickets and sit at home starring at your tickets and your loss. If the demand by skins fans was that great then you would not have seen all those Stealer fans sitting in the stadium. Thats why I decide not renew my tickets this year because I had trouble selling the games I did not want. So stop sitting at home and whinning about the others teams fans if your not buying the tickets yourself.

Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
I think there was a 2:1 ratio of Redskins to Steelers fans at the stadium last night. But it seems as though that 1/3 of the attendance was much more vocal than the other 2/3 and that seems to be the real "concern"
I shouldn't talk though, I am a very quiet viewer. It's like I'm in Mass |

Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
I am a season ticket holder and I was at the game last night. There were so many Steelers fans in the stadium. It was rediculous. When I cannot sell my tickets, I give them to Redskins fans or I eat the cost. This is not why we lost but it is still embarrassing. I was surrounded on all sides by Steelers fans. Its a good thing that there fans are a little more peaceful that Eagles fans or it could have gotten ugly.
|
Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
Tickets are sold online these days...no one knowingly hands them to an opposing fan. The steelers have a national fan base. They overran the Linc a few weeks ago too regardless of what Jaws says. i have friends that have eagles tickets and they told me that the place was filled with steelers fans. The game was not on national tv though so it got no play.
And anyway there were still plenty of skins fans there to drown out the steelers fans but the redskins offense did not play well enough for them to have anything to cheer about. |
Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
It was terrible watching the game with my girlfriend on TV and seeing yelloww towles everywhere. That was really frustrating hearing the crowd scream and yell on 3rd and long. Man I lost a lot of respect for our fanbase. Why would anyone sell your tickets to Steeler fans on a freakin Monday Night game in DC .

Glad you can afford to do that. I can't. If you're willing to eat the cost of my tix also, I guarrantee that no one but Skins fans will sit in those seats. People think season tix are a great financial investment. They're aren't. They are expensive and, yeah, their is a game or two you can sell for a profit, but mostly just getting cost is difficult. For me, its a two hundred dollar loss if the tix can't be sold. If you've that kind of money to toss out the door, more power to you. Me? not so much - I got kids, tuition and mortgages and tiny tiny amount for savings. Just a heads up - next year I will be selling two season tix. Assuming costs don't rise, anyone on this site can have them for my cost ~$2,200 (remember, you have to pay full price for 2 exhibition games). The money is due in April - so start saving now. That way you can buy'em, sell'em for a profit, eat them on game day or make sure they go to Skins fans. |
Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
I started giving my tix away when I got a big screen HD tv. I'd invite my buddies over and we had a great time eating and drinking. Less hassle, less cost, better beer, better food. I though about keeping the tix and going to a game or 2 but realized it just wasnt worth the expense (as mentioned in a previous post, these tix are expensive) of buying a whole season and giving away all but a couple games. I gave my tix to whoever would take them and let me tell you, a lot of times it wasnt easy giving away tix to Skins fans or any other fans.

People forget that when you have tickets the preseasons games are just a loss unless you go to the game. I don't. I had four season tic's and thats a loss of $520 just for the preseason games. I tried to add that loss to my ticket price but that only worked twice. I'm not complaining but people need to understand that we are talking real dollars and for me to just eat the price was $260 and that does not include tax's and other charges. I just decide it was cheaper to buy them on stubhub when I wanted to attend a game. |

I sold my tickets for last nights game because I live in New Jersey and would need 2 days off from work to go to a Monday night game. I too have a family and can not afford to just throw away $200 on top of the preseason losses just to ensure there are no Pitt fans in my seats. It's very easy to pass judgement from your sofa... |
Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
I'm a season ticker holder with 6 tickets who had to sell 4 to Steelers fans (sold over craigslist, I have no idea what kind of fan they are). I'm not sure why season ticket holders are getting the blame for selling tickets when Skins fans can go just as easily. The only way I can afford to go at all is by selling tickets at fair value for the big games (Cowboys, Steelers, etc). The fact is, if SKINS fans would go and pay fair value, this wouldn't be an issue. I'm not wealthy at all and so for me going to the games is a real luxury, and I cannot afford to lose $500-$1000 by selling my tickets for less than face or giving them away to Skins fans.

Great point. Face value is spread out over 10 games, including preseason, so in my example my tickets have a face value of $80 (before pg country taxes and absurd fees). Anyone here ponying up $80 for the Jacksonville preason game? Didn't think so... so season ticket holders have to amortize that over the rest of the season by selling for greater then the "redskins face". And the fact is a lot of Skins fans don't want to pay to go, but our opponents do. |

I agree. I sold my tickets to last nights game and I'm not at all ashamed to admit it. People want to talk like its a big deal, but you know what, when you drop 1500.00 a year on season tickets, another 500 on parking, FREAKING PARKING, when you only make 28-29,000 a year, than its your right. I offered my tickets up to a few people I knew who were Redskins fans, they didnt want to go, so I put them on tickets now. I sold them to people in Virginia, I have no idea if they were Skins' fans or not, and I really dont care. I was as embarassed as anyone last night watching them take over that stadium, but like he said, these are real dollars. I already took a loss on the preseason tickets, and I "sold" them to a Redskins fan, on this site, who has still yet to pay me for them. So unless its someone I know, forget about it. |

Paying full price for a preseason game used to really tick me off. It easy to tell people what to do with their tix and $ when you arent spending any $. I dont even go anymore as its just an incredible pain getting to Fed Ex. I can see great on my HD and like I said the food & booze are better. |

i don't really get the whole complaint here. If they are too expensive and you can't afford them, don't buy them. No one is forced to do so. And if you're going to buy them and then turn around and sell them to non-Skins fans, why not just buy the few games you actually plan on attending through Stub Hub or Craigslist?

I had several games last year on StubHub but as the game got closer they had still not sold at my cost of around $80 each. So I had to put them on craigslist on the friday before the game for like $50.00 each. Then the Skins fans came out and would offer me like $35 to $45 for my tickets. |
Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
I am sure when they sell the tickets on E bay that the person buying says, "oh yeah, I am a steelers fan...can I still buy them?" come on, get a grip. Steeler fans travel better than any team in the NFL and do that in almost every stadium they play in. The Panthers stadium was dominated by steeler fans. these people dont know who they are selling the tickets to for crying out loud, they are just selling them. IF that bothers you, then you should probably just stay home, so you aren't embarrassed.

If you wanted to attend every home game, then you wouldn't be selling the tickets. What is this whole "taking a loss" thing anyway? If you buy the tickets for x amount of dollars, then you are getting that commodity in return, you're not "taking a loss." I hate the whole "tickets as an investment" thing. Because, as a die hard Skins fan, the opportunity for season tix was too good to pass up. The first season I had them I was in the LAST ROW of the upper bowl. The seats were less expensive then, I didn't have kids and my disposable income was greater. Each year our seats have crept forward (and become more expensive) as better seats became available. After several years, the seats are now in the 15th Row of the lower bowl. I am trying to hold onto them through these lean years until I can, again, actually afford to go to the games. If I skip a year, not only do I lose the lower bowl seats, I go to the back of the waiting list. I don't buy them them to sell them - I buy them them now and so that I can enjoy them in the future when I can take my kids to games. When I could afford them, I went to every home game - usually I would invite a friend for whom I would eat the cost of their ticket. Hopefully, in the future, I again will be ablle to do that. So - can I put you down for the $2,200 due next year? How about you 411? You guys gonna pony up the dough so that I can hold onto these seats I have invested time and money into? No? Shocking. Guess I'll have to find some other way to do that. |
Re: F... Selling Tickets to the Visiting Team
i don't really get the whole complaint here. If they are too expensive and you can't afford them, don't buy them. No one is forced to do so. And if you're going to buy them and then turn around and sell them to non-Skins fans, why not just buy the few games you actually plan on attending through Stub Hub or Craigslist?
So your telling people to give up their season tickets so they can buy them from someone else who has season tickets? There will always be tickets to buy no matter who has the season tickets so that does not solve anything. You think all season ticket holders are going to go to all home games and eat any game they don't attend? If that was the case then places like Stubhud and these travle companies would be ot of business. Here look how many tickets are for sale in Pitsburg's criagslist Hine's field. Pittsburgh Steelers Tickets - Steelers Tickets at StubHub! Maybe it just that Stealer fans are not so cheap and actually buy the tickets. |
