Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
I just watched some highlights of BJ Raji, and I have to say Smootsmack got it right, this guy is massive, wide bodied and can penetrate the oline to cause mayhem on the offense,.. I see why he's high on a few peoples lists, but let's all remember Vinny will make the call so it could end up being somone projected in the 4th round going with our first pick..what a dumbass..
Not sure what exactly I got right...but thanks! |
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
Suppose we made absolutely no moves prior to draft day, no free-agent signings (other than maybe some camp bodies), and no trades for more draft picks this year.
If we assume the above, that leaves us with a 1st, 3th, 5th, and 6th round pick. So with all that in mind, give me your mock draft as of today(this is who you would want the Skins to use their picks on) I'll start (I wanted to get Connor Barwin in here, but just couldn't find a spot for him) 1st-OT: Best Available and that probably means Michael Oher at this point, but I'm becoming a big Eben Britton fan and I'd be tempted to take him 3rd-C: Antoine Caldwell (looking more unlikely he'll be around, but someone like Luigs could fall down there) 5th-DE/LB: Lawrence Sidbury (out of Richmond, could be a steal) 6th-um....some running back
Isn't this the guy from Ole Miss? I believe he plays on the left side and I don't think we're quite ready to replace Samuels. Not sure if he can play RT but if he can or does I'd love for us to draft this guy. This is the kind of guy that you root for. |

Yes he is, yes he does, and yes he can |
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
My Picks:
(1st) DT BJ Raji, DE Everrett Brown, C Alex Mack, OLB Brian Cushing. (3rd) C Jonathan Luigs, OT Alex Boone, OT Phil Loadholt (5th) OG Ray Feinga, OLB Zack Follet (Last Pick) Crap Shoot: DT Mitch King, OG Dallas Reynolds, OG Dan Gray, DE Orion Martin, Best OG, OT, DT, DE available. |

Mel Kiper: Says we will draft Brian Orakpo out University of Texas he was a great DE in college he is a beast and a workout warrior

They say the same thing about Andre Smith. I couldn't think of anyone else to put in there and hopefully they'll trade down. I'll bet you a silver eagle they do. Besides Everrett Brown, most of my first picks are late first to early second round guys. Seeing how we don't have a second rounder . . . . |

I say we draft Brian Orakpo from UT he is a monster DE. Mel kiper has us drafting him in his mock draft

Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
Alright White Boi J,
I've given some thought about it and came up with a more realistic pick. Given the rules of the thread here's what I would do if I were VC, granted these player are on the board when we get to them. I'll do some more homework and post on the Vinny trades down thread of what I think he'll do. (What I'd like him to do.) Starting left to right, left being my first pick: (13th) DT BJ Raji, OT Jason Smith, DE Everrett Brown, OT Eben Brown. (80th) OLB Clay Mathews, C Jonathan Luigs, C Antoine Caldwell, OT Alex Boone. (111th) OG Ray Feinga, OLB Zack Follet. (173rd) DE Lawrence Sidbury, FB Quinn Johnson. Under no circumstances would I get: QB, WR, TE, S, K, P, LS. I can't see them going after another running back unless they trade Betts or Rock. I can't see either one of them leaving unless someone makes it really worth their while. If they had wanted another running back then they'd have picked up Mason. I can see them wanting another RB in the future in the mold of Barber and Jacobs. I wouldn't do it this year. Seeing how Sellers is the only full back on the roster, they use him on special teams, he blocks for CP constantly, and they throw the ball to him periodically. I'd get another one in the last round or next year just in case he comes down the wrong way on one of those famous leaps of his. If Rogers is traded or Springs isn't moved to safety and cut then I can see them picking up a CB in the last round. I wouldn't pick one though. Our receivers are what they are and we can't sign more right now. They've already stated that there will be kicker and punter competition in training camp, meaning Suisham and Plackemeir will have to compete with other journeymen. I wouldn't waste another pick on a kicker. VC would be stupid not to go after the choices I've oulined at least at the position level. Everyone knows what they need. If they're smart they'll follow the same pattern for the next couple of drafts with a RB, ILB, and Safety thrown in for good measure. CP and London are getting worn down and I can't get that image of Landry getting run over by Jacobs out of my head. |
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
Trample the Elderly - I like that draft a little better, but I'd say in 3rd round we have to pick up one of the interior lineman b/c there are lots of good G/C that are 3rd round prospects. I'd especially go G/C in 3rd if we take Raji in the 1st.
This would be a step in the right direction for VC, and give JZ more to work with. I honestly think that if we can get Raji, that would be WAY better than drafting a DE....I heard Raji is dominating all the top OL prospects in 1 on 1 drills. Even if he doesn't get any sacks, he would require a double team, thus allowing 1 of our 6 blitzers to go un-touched....i'd get pissed when i'd see us blitz 6 and not see us get past the line of scrimmage. |

My thoughts are this. They're going to move Jansen to guard, not because it's a good football move, but because of salary cap issues. That's also true with a lot of the O-line. Seeing how everyone is smitten with Raji and he'll probably be gone the next best guy is Jason Smith. That's assuming that the he's the best OT falling to us. RT has to be filled. I can see a younger free agent coming in to fill a hole if Kendall isn't signed. And this team likes to take it's sweet ass time with O-line men. With Marcus Washington probably on his way out and if Clay Mathews is there, I'd think they'd be foolish not to get him. If those centers are there in the third like you say then yes pick one. I'm not impressed with Unger though and Alex Mack will be gone by then. |

Then Heyer or Rinehart could play LG, and we wouldn't have to re-sign kendall. ORRR move Jansen to LG and have Heyer and Samuels split time, cause even though Samuels still has like 4 years left on his contract, i think he might retire before then...if not, it'll keep Samuels healthy for the whole season by only having to play half a game. if we take a C in the 3rd round, that'll finish up the majority of the over-haul on OL, and next draft we can concentrate on the D front 7 in 1st and 2nd, and another G/C in 3rd or 4th |
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
1st: Aaron Curry OLB, Wake Forest (most complete LB coming into the NFL. Barring injury, defensive rookie of the year)
3rd:Fili Moala DT, USC (I've seen him in some mocks at lower 1st round or mid 4th. He certainly benefited from being with such a great defense but if he's available here then he more than fits a need). |
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
I would trade down 1st and 3rd pick into three second round picks. I would draft:
1. William Beaty (OT, 2nd) 2. Evander Hood(DT, 2nd) 3. Brian Robiskie(WR, 2nd) 4. Jason Williams(LB, 5th) 5. Greg Isdaner(OG, 6th) |

Not WASTE more picks. WR is not even close to being on the priority list IMO! |

Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
Revised:
(13th) C Alex Mack (80th) OLB Clay Mathews (111th) T Joel Bell (173rd) DT Sammie Lee Hill Yes I know Mack is a late 1st but the rules of the thread says no trade downs. So there it is. |

Changing it now. |
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
I can understand why you like Robiskie. He's a great route runner and has good size. Besides that, his dad use to coach for us. He should have a good career in this league for someone but after last years draft I doubt we would take a receiver as high as he'll probably go.
|
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
I, unfortunately, have no idea who will be available at no. 13. I would have to think one of the big four OTs might be there.
|
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
Since we cannot trade down and no FA
I would draft 1st - Any of big 4 OTs, probably Michael Oher (OT) if gone then Eben Britton (OT), I would love Alex Mack (C) but too high @ 13. 3rd - Jonathan Luigs (C) or Fenuki Tupou (G) 5th - Zach Follet (OLB) 7th - RB or DL |
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
Mack or Raji. Inside beef sounds nice.
We've got plenty of options, though. Brown or Oher sound good too. Would like to see us trade down a bit. |
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
1st Round - Michael Oher - T - Ole Miss
3rd Round - 1st choice - Johnathan Luigs - C - Arkansas 2nd choice - Herman Johnson - G - LSU 3rd choice - Antoine Caldwell - C - Alabama 5th Round - Vance Walker - DT - Georgia Tech (collapses the pocket, stops the run, and plays with a high motor. However he lacks size and instincts) 6th Round - Zach Follet - LB - Cal (Not sure if he'll last this long but hey last year we thought Erin Henderson was going to be a 2nd or 3rd round pick and right now Follet is graded as a fringe 5th round pick) My Nightmare Draft 1st Round - Percy Harvin - RB/WR - Florida ("He was easily the best player on our board and when you draft for need you get in trouble") 2nd Round - Alphonso Smith - CB - Wake Forest ("Well we thought trading next years 2nd and 3rd along with Carlos Rogers, as well as a fifth rounder next year was a good idea because we knew that this guy was high on our board. Plus this year we're not going to make the character mistake we made with Thomas and Davis last year") 3rd Round - Darry Beckwith - ILB - LSU ("Well we saw how well our division rival Dallas did with Brady James and Beck was definitely the best player on our board so we went for it") 5th Round - Maurice Wells - RB - Ohio State ("We wanted a big play threat at RB and we felt like Maurice was it. I mean sure most scouts had him going undrafted but he stuck out on our board like a sore thumb.") 6th Round - Grahm Harrell - QB - Texas Tech (" Did you see how many yards he threw for last year? Pair him with Colt and our fanbase will be thrown into civil war over who are 2nd string QB should be. We're excited about what Jim can do with him.") Follow up comments from Vinny: "We tried to trade back up into the first to get Brian Cushing but we couldn't find anyone who wanted Santana Moss, Jon Jansen, Cornelius Griffin, Shawn Springs, Marcus Washington, and Carlos Rogers in exchange for a first round pick." "We would have gone O-Line but no one really stood out on our board, besides this wasn't a good year for O-lineman." "Hey at least I didn't take any recievers.....or did I?" "Percy Harvin is going to be the next Reggie Bush." "I'm really excited about what the other Well's brings to the table. "I tried to trade back but for some reason the phone line went dead."
Okay guys, don't fall in love with Hermann Johnson's 6'7" 382 size. You may not have seen the Senior bowl practice where he was thoroughly dominated by everyone he faced. But this is why he has plummeted from a possible 1st day pick to a probable 4th rounder. He looked very slow and was overpowered by late round talent at the senior bowl. If you like him watch the combine and see what the scouts say... Think George Muresan with shoulder pads.. |
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
I'll caveat my first round pick with this; if the big 4 OTs and Raji are gone, I'm trading down and looking to pick up Mack. But since that can't happen in this thread....
1st: Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss 3rd: Alex Magee, DT, Purdue - Projects as a 3-tech and can play end 5th: A.Q. Shipley, C, Penn State - Rimington Trophy winner if Shipley is not available, then Jason Williams, OLB, Western Illinois - 6'1 241, 4.59 40 time 6th: if Shipley is not taken in the 5th then Ray Feinga, G, BYU. if Shipley is taken then Gartrell Johnson, RB, Colorado St. |

Thought I'd heard that had served as a wake-up call to him and he's really been working hard the last month to improve his agility and speed |
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
13th overall - 1 of the 3 top tackles not named Oher; DT raji; LB malangua; DE Orakpo.
obviously a tackle would be great but i am not sold on Oher at 13 when we could probaly get similar talent later in the 1st. i am warming up to the idea of rey malangua (sp?) as he could be a high intensity player which i think we need; raji would be great too . .orakpo is last on my list. either way i like sitting in the 13 position, lots of attractive talent available. go skins!! |

I didn't know where to put this or know if it has been posted. Here's how Matt Moseley should've phrase this:

From what I saw and heard after the practice he was a disaster, he may be working hard now but he has a ways to go. He's VERY weak for a man his size. Guards are usually some of the strongest players on the team. My guess is he has trouble beating LBs in reps lifting 225 at the combine. He's also very tall for a Guard which means he'll have trouble gaining leverage vs most tackles in this league. I would pass on him |

Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
Michael Oher LOT VA
Eugene Monroe LOT Miss Although I know something about Oher being out of VA. and yes solid Left Tackle, but both these kids are LOT's. Don't think any of these two guys are gonna bump CS outta his job, as he's the best we have up front. We need to shore up/UPGRADE the front five now, FA, Draft a now starter, whatever it takes. This will be of key importance to our success this season IMO. |
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
1st round - Aaron Maybin DE/OLB PSU - Maybin is a great pass rusher with good instincts. He is OK against the run but has a huge upside.
3rd round - Eric Wood C UL - After watching the combine on tivo yesterday I thought Wood looked great. He pressed 225 - 30 times and looked explosive in drills. 5th round - Cedric Peerman RB UV -Decent Size and Speed and will allow us to trade Betts. 6th round - Andrew Gardner OT GT - Good Size and Durability. Would be a project, but what 6th round pick isn't. |
Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft
Hands down we need to get clinton portis some help, I think beanie wells or percy harvin, or moreno; explosive playmakers in the first round. dont waste 1st round pick on mediocore OL and DL class. free agency can handle that need.

Interesting thoughts on the weak OL and DL class. Since I don't watch much college ball, I couldn't agree or disagree with that statement. But shouldn't you be able to find an x factor running back in the mid rounds? ala Leon Washington or Darren Sproles? I can't see taking a guy like Beanie Wells coming off of injury with the 13th overall pick. |
