well my electric bill goes through the roof. other than that i don't really mind the winter. I actually really enjoy it up until about this time. now its just getting old.

I have lived in NE and experienced tons of snow as well. It is worst here (DC Area). It is just not the amount of snow but more the amount of people trying to get around in the snow. See DC is a cluster f--k already to start with then you throw in a couple inches of snow and it all goes to hell.

See when I lived in Portsmouth NH we could get 100 inches of snow and it was not a problem becuse what where the chances I was going to bump into one of the other four people that lived there.

Please remeber also up north the snow plow to person ratio is like 1 to 1, we don't have that type of equipment here.

I am not leashing out at you so much as the "tough guy" northern that thinks they have it so tough because of all their snow. Come live down here year round in the middle of the rat race you won't have time to think about the weather, trust me.

I drove up to DC Wednesday and when I turn off 64 near Richmond on to 295 it was 68. In just 15 miles the temp dropped to 38 and stuck there all the way into DC.

When I first got married we rented an old farm house that was over looking the Nansmond River and had hugh lake in the front yard. This house was the party house until we got a few wenter heating bills. They averaged around $400 and we had one a little over $600 and don't think that house had a lick of insulation.

I slide into a curb at like 1 mph no damage just pissed me off it was all becasue of my shity Dunlop tires, they came with my 4Runner and they are the worst. Getting new tires this summer either Yokes or Bridgestone Revos.

It's like a 30-40 minute drive normally, but I-95 looks like poop on the news. I drive a Jeep with 4 wheel drive, but I'm concerned about the wind and ice.
The problem is that I know the rest of the week will just be completely miserable if I can't get in for at least a little while today.

4-5 inches is pretty normal for us. We have some snows that are more than a foot every so often. Regardless, everything shuts down around here when it's a couple of inches or more.

Well, I made it into work. Of course it's only a 15 minute commute for me under nominal conditions. It wasn't that bad out there, but there sure were people who were driving like it was that bad. But that is his fault for driving a Corvette to work...Dumbass!

I replaced the Dunflops on mine at 16k miles because I couldn't stand them anymore. I put some Nitto Terra Grapplers on it. Had them on for about 36k miles and they have been great.

No it was slush. Dunflops just suck. I looked at them afterwards they hold in all the snow in the tread thus making them ice skates. Worst tires in the world bar none. I don't know anyone that likes them.

I have never seen a tire that did not hold snow in their treads. I don't know if I have ever owned a set of Dunlops but every tire that I have owned held snow.

I have had many tires in my life and these are by far the worst, it is common knowledge. To be honest I have never inspected my tires in the past for snow because they have always worked well so you maybe right. I have always had great success with Yokes and Bridgestone.

I think there was ice under the snow around here (bwi area). I was driving in the lane and my back would start sliding. I just got new tires so they are not worn. and the parking lot at my work has a thin layer of ice under it. I hate ice.

I made it to work okay, it just took longer than normal. Now I'm a little concerned with how the wind will be on the drive home. They were saying it we could have +30mph winds later today, and that sort of thing usually whips my jeep around quite a bit. Should be interesting.

Main roads in the DC area are fine. I waited until the snow let up and headed in a few hours late, but the drive was cake. No problem whatsoever. Even the side streets aren't that bad. It hadn't been cold enough before the snow for any type of accumulation on the roads I guess.

Standard for the DC area. I remember one time when I was in high school they actually cancelled school for the following day based on the forecast. A single flake hadn't fallen and we already had a snow day. A light dusting causes this area to go into lock down mode. It's hilarious.

Took my wife almost 90 minutes to get from Frederick to King Farm in Rockville this morning (22 or so miles). Took me a while to get around Frederick at 8:15, but by 10:15, when taking my daughter to the doctor, the main roads were just wet, and by 11:15, even the secondaries that had seen plows were decent. I'm just wary of the ice we'll see tonight once the sun goes down.

But yes, anything over 2 inches and the DC area goes into snow-anarchy. If you aren't driving too slow causing people to slide, you're turned on your roof like a turtle because you figured the $60k SUV you bought is invincible to ice and snow. Or you take your vette out because it's the only vehicle you own and get stuck 17 times within 2 miles of your house.

Hey Bohnzie, do you remember the one big snow storm we got at Salisbury during my freshman/your senior year, with the massive snowball fight? That had to be one of my favorite days in college.
Just about every person who lived on campus got drunk, went outside and engaged in one of the greatest snowball fights in history. People filled laundry baskets with pre-made snowballs and used dorms to flank behind the masses. At one point there was a group of about 100 people charged the quad while blowing those big plastic horns (like The Horn guy at Caps games) to signal their attack. It was like a scene out of Braveheart or something.
That was back when I actually looked forward to a good snowfall. I miss those days.

Yes I do remember this...there were several snowball fights all over campus. We had one between Chesapeake and St. Martin's...where us on the 2nd floor walkway of Chesapeake had a distinct tactical advantage of holding the higher ground. I sat on a stool, beer in hand (non-distinct cup of course), throwing snowballs down at passersby. Definitely fun times.

I was on the GW northbound during one snowstorm...took me 35 minutes to get from the Memorial Bridge to just past Spout Run. Why? Because some idiot in his corvette was trying to get up the steep incline after Spout Run. Spinning his wheels the entire way...dumbass should have stayed home.

I saw something similar today with this guy on Powder Mill road. I happened to be right behind him. I got around him and made it to the top of the incline. In my rearview he was completing a 180.

Always love that. People just don't realize that four wheel drive doesn't mean shit when it's ice. It's just to truck through deep snow and mud. Those people always piss me off.
