Probably non-news, but worth a read I suppose. The bit about Malcolm Kelly becoming the next Andre Johnson was pretty funny.

Re: PFT rumor: TITANS TO PURSUE TAMPERING CHARGES AGAINST REDSKINS?
I saw that article, but it doesn't really sound like any new developments, just the local tennessee newspaper kicking up dirt.
It would be nice to see one of last years pick just go all out this season. |

So would you say you look forward more to the first SB won under Snyder, or the day he sells it? |
Re: PFT rumor: TITANS TO PURSUE TAMPERING CHARGES AGAINST REDSKINS?
I just hope they have more proof then people having seen Snyder eating dinner with an agent who co-incidently is the agent for both Haynesworth and Kelly.
It's also funny how they act like we signed Haynesworth at 12:01am. That would make me wonder but I still would have to say even that's not enough proof. How do we know Haynesworth had not already told his agent to make a contract with certain stipulations in it and have it ready to fax to teams when they called at 12:01am. It took 5-6 hours to get Haynesworth signed. Perhaps look over a contract and make changes to it. In this day and age when most contract stuff is all on software so it can be done quickly is a no brainer and if they e-mailed it back and forth with the changes until all parties were satisfied then it could have easily been done in probably 3-4 hours or perhaps less. Most of the mumbo jumbo is what's in all contracts. The agents and players know where to look at in the contract that interests them most. Perhaps PFT should be looked at for tampering when they mentioned T.O. would be let go by the Cowboys way before the FA. I think they are either Titan fans or Bill fans and had alternative motives in trying to have T.O. cut so their team could pick him up. I wonder if they had dinner with T.O. prior to FA. I'm sure someone could vouch having seen a top PFT executive having dinner prior to mid. lol. ;) |
No reason to read any further, that site is a joke...it's the National Enquirer of football news.
Agreed. Any website with a section called "turd watch" can only be taken so seriously. To be honest I only check them out after I've exhausted all the headlines from SI, ESPN, and NFL.com. I'm surprised how much they're into being a watchdog while they frequently report stories that seem to have little to no substance to them. For goodness sakes according to them last year we had contracts for Drayton Florence and DJ Hacket lined up before free agency started. Of course I will admit the whole situation does seem shakey and my gut tells me the Redskins technically did tamper. |

Of course I will admit the whole situation does seem shakey and my gut tells me the Redskins technically did tamper.
Yea, but unfortunatly "gut" feelings don't matter in a court of law. My gut told me O.J. killed his wife but the evidence didn't hold water. lol. |
Re: PFT rumor: TITANS TO PURSUE TAMPERING CHARGES AGAINST REDSKINS?
Of course we tampered. Anyone who thinks Haynesworth wasn't the topic of discussion at Snyder's dinner with his agent is just flat out dumb. Not to mention all the discussions that take place at the combine. That place is Tamperville, USA. It's whether or not the accusing team has any proof that's worth a damn. Snyder has made waaaay to many big name FA acquisitions in the past to be dumb enough to get caught tampering.

Whether they pursue it or not, what are they going to do to us, make us LESS draft oriented?! LOL

Yes we get it. and you are correct that they will have to have some form of proof. So they file a complaint with the Commish. He will have to look into it. How do you suppose he does that? He will contact the agent and ask what was the topic a the dinner. Then he will contact Snyder and ask what was the topic at dinner? If the stories are pretty close and don't involve Haynesworth, guess what......nothings going to happen. Unless the Titans had a tape recorder under the table, or had a boom mike on the table from outside the resturuant, or the agent or Snyder said yes we talked about Haynesworth, or the team had someone sitting relatively close to the table to hear/tape the whole conversation then they got Zilch. Nadda. One big waste of time. All it will accomplish is creating a rift between two owners which may be no big deal unless one has some rule he wants passed and needs the others vote. The team is just pissed cause they lost their anchor to their defense. Now they have to go out and find another probably through the draft. They built the defense around him and now they have lost their center piece. cry, cry, sniff, sniff, pout, pout..."were going to complain cause someone offered more money then us. Even though we are not in CAP hell." I mean why complain? They gave a fair market value to him. He wanted out. If he didn't want out he wouldn't have tested the market. He would have said ok I'll sign cause I love this city. Instead he decided to test the market. The Skins offered more. Why argue and fight over someone who does not want to be with you any more? or is it their being greedy and wanting another 1st round draft pick so to complain hopefully the Commish will say "Even though there's no proof I totally believe the Skins Tampered so we will award the Titans the Skins 1st rounder." I don't see that happening. Go file your complaint Titans. Make yourself look like asses. Make history. |
Re: PFT rumor: TITANS TO PURSUE TAMPERING CHARGES AGAINST REDSKINS?
idk man. to me i think we look like the asses. yeah i know its hard to prove and most everyone does it but . . . i do believe there is some kind of gentlemen's agreement among owners/GMs and you dont see other owners getting their names in articles talking about dinners with agents before FA began.
snyder is probaly the most unliked owner when he goes to the owner meetings and ive read that they are going to address the tampering issue when they meet. im sure all eyes wil be turning to DS. DS knows no ethics, he is quite the ass as a business person from everything ive read about him. its a shame our franchise has to be hog-tied to his way of doing things. maybe im oldschool but i like doing things the right way even if others are doing it otherwise. go skins!! |
Re: PFT rumor: TITANS TO PURSUE TAMPERING CHARGES AGAINST REDSKINS?
Yawn. Who cares.
Good luck to the Titans trying to prove it. |

If they wanted to penalize us they would give us more picks with the stipulation that Vinny had to make the pick without discussing it with anyone else! That alone could set us back more than taking picks away from us! |

well i do care about how DS way of doing business reflects poorly on us as a franchise. you dont. i get it.

Re: PFT rumor: TITANS TO PURSUE TAMPERING CHARGES AGAINST REDSKINS?
Does any of it really matter? If Haynesworth wanted to stay in Tenn. he would have. He either would have signed an agreement prior to FA or looked at what he could have made and asked Tenn. to try and match it. I know some of you are the rules type of person. Rules, rules, rules. Yes. but take a moment and think about it. Would it have mattered whether we met the previous week or spoke with his agent at 12:01am? We were committed to making a better offer then Tenn. We were committed to signing Haynesworth...aparently Tenn. was not or they would have came back with a bid higher then ours. Yes that creates a bidding war but DS was ready to out bid and aparently Haynesworth had no hard feelings about saying bye otherwise he would have stayed where he was.
|
Re: PFT rumor: TITANS TO PURSUE TAMPERING CHARGES AGAINST REDSKINS?
Everyone knows including the commish. That if Mr. Snyder wanted him. Nobody would have been able to out bid him. (period) No cap is gonna be fun with Snyder
well i do care about how DS way of doing business reflects poorly on us as a franchise. you dont. i get it.
Come on, we aren't talking Al Davis, or Detroit FO type moves. Every one of the owners is a businessman first, and they understand what DS is doing. If it was egregious Tennessee would be screaming, but they aren't. The article that started this was the equivalent to a JLC/Sally Jenkins article- well written, but basically without any substance. And remember the audience it was written too, a tennessee fan base still frustrated that they did not re-sign AH. No way the other owners are thinking less of DS or the Redskins due to this signing. (or atleast the "tampering" aspect of it, they may be aggravated at the overall contract as it is written) |

Re: PFT rumor: TITANS TO PURSUE TAMPERING CHARGES AGAINST REDSKINS?
Seems to me you can talk, tamper, fidget, swindle, persuade, wine and dine all you want and it won't matter. The only words that matter (no matter WHEN they are said) are the number of years, total salary, signing bonus, etc. I don't care how much you talk prior to being able to sign someone...the agents will find the deal that best fits the player. Whether it's a guy looking to get paid or a guy looking for his best chance at a Championship. Albert Haynesworth had a list of terms and contract criteria that his agent had to work with when finding a new deal. The bottom line is whoever gave them that deal was getting his services. The rest of this is sour grapes on the part of the Titans. They had plenty of opportunity PRIOR to the opening of free agency to negotiate a deal where they could have kept him off the market. Dan Snyder made it work (with salary cap magic) and the Titans could have as well.
Thank you and have a nice day! HAIL!! |

It's only tampering if the Skins or representative for the team ie; DS contacted the agent and spoke about details in regards to a contract. If the Skins are going to get it then I think Drew Rosenhause(sp) should be fined or told not to deal contracts also cause he shopped 3 players prior to Free Agency. |

Good point; Rosenhaus did send out a league-wide email saying that Plax, Chad Ocho Cinco and Anquan Boldin, who are all under contract with teams, were available for trades. |

No I don't. I'm just saying that other evidence (including Rock's mouth) is speculative, but if premature phone records do surface, that would be damning. |

I heard Rock that morning on the radio and did a double take. Listening to it again, the pronouns get all jumbled, and I am sure it can't be held as "proof". If a video of DS handing AH 1,000,000 in cash in a dark alley, while Vinny stands look out, and gauging street walkers on their WR or ninja skills, that would be pretty damning too! |

...Rock trying to get us got.
Yeah, Rock is there smoking gun. I'll say again. There's a lot of I'm guessing it happened and more then likely it did. but I truly hope they are not hanging their hats on the fact: “I kind of had an idea they were going to sign [Haynesworth] anyways,” Cartwright said. “One of my teammates said they had the same agent and . . . he said they had been talking.” There is no doubt that Snyder and Haynesworth agent was talking. The question is what were they talking about. One could infer it was about Haynesworth but we truly don't know cause we were not at the dinner. Let me get the Skins in trouble also maybe the Titans will use me as a witness...."I kinda of had an idea the Skins were going to sign Haynesworth anyways also." If DS wants something he will pay for it. We pretty much heard the day before that DS was going to out bid the Titans for Haynesworth. So I already had an idea. Now knowing no one is a moron, I'm betting DS did talk about Haynesworth. but I will repeat what I said before. No matter if the deal got done at 12:01 (which it didn't. It was done at like 4 or 5am) or 10 days later, DS wanted AH. DS was going to out bid the Titans for AH. If AH wanted to stay with the Titans he would have told us no and signed with the Titans. If the Titans truly wanted to keep AH they would not have let the Skins out bid them for him. The Titans would not have let AH hit the open market. It's apparent AH did not like the deal the Titans were offering so he decides he wanted to test FA. AH leaves for another team that offered a better contract and the Titans did nothing. Now they are upset cause their whole Defense was designed around AH who was apparently their cog that makes the defense work and they let him go. That's like designing an offense around Payton Manning and then letting another team take him away in FA. Now you have an offense that is going to go no where cause you failed to make sure you didn't lose your most intricate piece to the puzzel. I think if I was a Titans fan I wouldn't be mad at DS I would be mad at the Titans team owner for not offereing a more lucrative contract that would not have made AH want to test the market. Now all the Titans...owner, coach's, and fans are boo hooing. Suck it up and draft a nose tackle. have a nice day., |

Considering that PFT is the only "source" of this, I think it renders no credibility. They're just trying to create news.

Re: PFT rumor: TITANS TO PURSUE TAMPERING CHARGES AGAINST REDSKINS?
Ok now lets get seriouse for a moment. I have a friend who has a friend who works for the Skins in the mail room who over heard that Mike Florio, you know him he's the person who writes for PFT, supposedly is interested in DS. Supposedly he thinks DS is the Shiznit and apparently DS does not swing that way and turned him down. Now Florio is doing everything he can to make DS look bad or get him into trouble. ;) So the rumor goes.

Looking at his other posts, i dont think he pays attention to the discussion to know whats being talked about. Looks like he just reads the title of thread and then makes a post with his thoughts. He probably just didnt know what was going on. The thing that really irritates me with PFTs recent blog entries on this subject is that Florio is speculating, jumping to conclusions, and completely forgetting everything he knows about law: 1) Snyder having dinner with Speck doesnt prove anything because Speck is Kellys agent, too. 2) Rock is relaying information that he heard someone else say who wasnt party to theb actual discussions. Is 3rd or 4th person information at best and is complete hearsay. Granted, the league isnt obligated to follow the same rules that a court of law would, but there is no "evidence" for the Titans to pursue tampering charges - just speculation and hearsay. Did the Redskins tamper? I think we all know they did. But im sure the Redskins werent the only teams talking with Speck about Haynesworth prior to free agency and im sure all 32 teams in the NFL were engaging in some sort of tampering. Florios trying to stir up crap because if he has a juicy story, his site will get more hits and he'll make more money. its a complete non-issue and if you read the comments in Florios blog, he's got more haters than JLC. Theyre both hacks, but we keep visiting their sites because we love football and we cant get enough news and rumors. No one takes this issue seriously, though. Its being completely blown out of proportion and it will be completely forgotton about whenever a better story comes along. |

Redskins Busted For Tampering By Their Own Player? - Music City Miracles
The morning free agency started, Redskins RB Rock Cartwright went on ESPN 980 in D.C. to talk about the Albert Haynesworth signing. What he said should go a long way towards proving the Redskins tampered with Haynesworth while he was still under contract with the Titans: Host: At what time did you learn Albert Haynesworth was going to be a teammate, Rock? Rock Cartwright: This morning when I woke up I put it on NFL network and breaking news went across the screen saying he had signed for $100 million, but I kind of had an idea they were going to sign him anyways because one of my teammates said they have same agent* and he said that they had been talking. * (ed. note: WR Malcolm Kelley is also represented by Albert's agent, Chad Speck) That's textbook tampering. The Bears got a pick from the 49ers for tampering with Lance Briggs, and they seemed to have much less evidence. Plus they didn't even lose Briggs, whereas out attempts to re-sign Albert were blown to bits once that crazy offer hit the papers. This is tampering at its worst, and Snyder should be hammered by the Commissioner for this. The 49ers were docked a 5th round pick and had to swap their 3rd rounder with the Bears, so anything less than multiple late picks from the Redskins would be an insult in this case, IMO. If Rock Costs us our third round pick he needs to go. |
