Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
Im sure one of them could be useful if were looking for some veteran depth... but neither should/could be projected to start if they were signed.
|
Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
this may be the position we have to hold at until next year.. who knows, maybe they figure with haynesworth and the rest of the line we'll be good enough
Like it or not you can't have young studs at every position on the team. Daniels and Wynn are clearly stop gaps and they should do fine in that role.
I think that that's what people fail to see here.. no team has superstars at every position. |

Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
The writing is on the wall and why some of us can't see it is really hard to believe. If Daniels and Wynn are picked up it's probably due to the fact Wilson, Jackson & Buzzbee aren't stout against the run yet the FO still wants to develope/use one or two of the three in pass rush situations. If the move is made to bring both on then I don't see the FO addressing the DE position at all in the draft! They'll either go RT or LB (play maker all of you have been asking for) in the first! If they can trade down and pick up a second then there is a possibility that all three positions will be addressed; however, trades are hard to pull off! I like the move to bring both at a vet min! No matter which DE is in there, AH makes them better. Lets get a difference maker at LB to complement AH or another bookend RT to complement the whole damn offense!

Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
Looks like the team wants MW. He wants to test the market...after being injured a lot I don't know how much $$ he's going to get. The same goes for Daniels, he wants to test the market, but I wonder how much more money he's going to get.

Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
Getting MW back with a cheaper deal would make a lot of sense. Plus I could keep wearing his jersey. :)

It would make sense from a $$ standpoint, but won't diminish his injury history. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but I just don't understand why we haven't shown interest in guys like Cato June or Angelo Crowell. |
Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
I'm not so sure I want MW back. I think the position was pretty weak last year overall as a unit, and even with the addition of Haynesworth (I knew he's a DT, but his presence should make things easier for the linebackers) we need to make improvements.
Now I like MW a lot, but if we re-sign him are we just going to put him out there as the starting SAM again and then spend the season wonder about his health? And is the WILL the best place for Rocky, or should he add some pounds and moved to the strong side? The linebacker situation probably belongs in its own thread, but I think we need to add at least one young player to the rotation (even if we expect Fincher and/or Sinclair and/or Tyson Smith to emerge). |

I think a guy like June is someone that will probably still be around after the draft so there's no rush really to look at him. I wonder if Crowell's knee is in worse shape than is being let on, because there has been almost no interest in him around the league, save for a couple of teams. And this is a young, stud LB. Maybe the team could take a look at the guy who ultimately replaced MW in Indy, Tyjuan Hagler. |

Maybe given Crowell's knee injury they don't feel like he'd be an upgrade over Fincher and Sinclair? I don't know. I'm just a bit surprised we haven't really done anything at the LB position yet. Maybe we should start a "how would you address the LB position?" thread. |

We need to be able to raise our sack and int total to me, in order to be a championship caliber defense Solution: get a good DE |

I know. I refuse to be one of those guys who wear a players jersey that now plays for another team. (Loyld-Ramsey -Archuletta etc.) |

Same with Keiaho. |
Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
Marcus could have a great season at WLB and I hope that's what Blache has in mind... if he agrees to return on the predication he starts at SLB we're in a bit of trouble. I can just hear Aikman's voice "Joe it really looks like Marcus Washington has lost another step and yet the Redskins still have him trying to cover Witten. It's just not fair to a guy..."
|

The fact that Marcus was covering Witten one on one means that we had some asinine blitz call on, and the gamble was that Witten wouldn't release. Even Blache knows that's a huge mismatch.
Giving credit where it is due though, the Horton INT in that game was Blache's best call of the season. Anyway, Marcus only really fits in our defense on the Strong Side. If he's man covering anybody, it should be the fullback. Flat zone coverage, or let him get after the QB all the way. |
Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
Regardiing MW,
I'd would have rather resigned Springs or Taylor. I think MW is done |
Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
He's 31. I doubt he's done.
|
Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
Tennessee and Denver are considering Daniels along with the Skins.
I dont think anyone is considering Wynn. I would be happy to get Daniels back |

Basically my reasoning for switching Marcus, whether we kept him another year or not, was to avoid those situations. Also like I said elsewhere Rocky, from what little i've noticed, seems to do well in coverage (however he struggles in brute strength run stopping where Marcus is still effective). Anyway that's the idea behind swapping our guys... btw if Marcus is only suited for SLB i don't think he should be brought back cuz he's not effective there any longer. I still think he could be a force at ILB in a 3-4 system... |

Its not about age, its about performance...could he start? sure...should he? thats a different question. He is also having injury issues. He hasn't broken 50 tackles in 2 years, he used to be in the 100+ area. So, is he done in terms of career? no...but...are his days numbered as a starter...yes. Could his performance be replaced by a 3rd round LB....possibly...and that should tell you something... He aint a probowler anymore...not even close |
Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
Ok, so whats taking the team so long to pick up Daniels and Wynn? Did they low ball them and they are thinking about it? We heard about the team talking with them long before Doughty and Fincher.

I don't think we're lowballing Wynn. No one else is interested in him apparently. I think Daniels is probably using interest from Denver/Tennessee to squeeze out more dollars. Wherever he signs, it's most likely going to be his last NFL contract. I imagine whatever impasse exists right now, it's strictly over money. Maybe we're waiting to see if we end up with Daniels before we make a move on Wynn? |
Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
another point regarding Daniels...he can play inside and due to the fact the the Skins haven't re-signed Montgomery or Golson yet...that could be a factor.

we've tendered montgommery and Golston and we still have Alexander. At this point, I dont think we have a need for Daniels on the inside. |

That was my understanding. They are ours but if they get a better offer elswhere we can either match it or let them go and take the draft pick. |

Maybe we're waiting to see if we end up with Daniels before we make a move on Wynn?
So basically everyone is toe tapping waiting for what the other is going to do. Wynn maybe waiting to see what Daniels is going to do. Daniels is waiting to see what Wynn will do. and the Skins are waiting for what both are going to do. I didn't think Wynn was getting any nibbles which is why he was interested in coming back to us especially if Daniels was coming back. |

Excellent idea. I voted Daniels because we need a DE and he should come very very cheap. Hes a leader in the locker room, knows the system and had a full year to rest. |
Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
Ok, honestly, I don't mind Daniels supposedly he has not had injury issues in the past except for last yr. I forget who kept having back spasms or back pain. Wynn was not a bad player.
When I saw Juan Epstein I immediatly thought of "White Shadow" and wondered if it was a joke. lol. |

Welcome Back, Kotter? |
Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
Gotta go with Daniels, he's the only potential starter on the list.
|
Re: Redskins may sign Daniels and Wynn?
I went with Pete Kendall. He's got arthritic knees, but he can still bring it at a high level, plus he's a good locker room guy. He'd be a very solid backup, especially with Randy Thomas coming off neck surgery.
