That's the thing I don't get with people about Betts. How's he suppose to be productive when he never gets the ball? I'd like to see him get a lot more carries than he's been getting.

i disagree betts is a good back he just needs carries.....hows this for a swing of things PORTIS!!!!!!!! not to cut but trade hes older and not many backs make it past 30 trade him before the downside of his career happens just a suggestion

Only if we could do the Herschel Walker trade all over again and get a ton of picks for him. LOL.

Re: If we had to part w/ one more player...

Under current circumstances I'd cut (and I know i'll take shit for this) Rock. We need more explosiveness in KR/PR and he's a terrible option at RB. I'm looking for the FO to draft a RB in the 5th or 6th round anyway... so we save about $800k in cap space and have Devin as our KR and a young change-of-pace back behind Portis/Betts.

2nd choice: James Thrash
3rd choice: Rabach but only if we draft Mack/Unger or get a quality guy in FA.

Why wouldn't you just cut Betts and get a change of pace back behind Portis?

What about letting backup QB Collins go. Anybody know how much we could possibly save getting rid of him?

Re: If we had to part w/ one more player...

We could let Cartwright go since we have the special KR we signed in free-agency. We also have the backup Broncos RB that is suppose to be decent. We could consider letting Betts go also.

Betts has been here for 7 years and only had one good season. He has had chances but has either been hurt or just didnt get it done. He is nothing more than a backup and we should have traded him when we had the chance.

It doesnt have anything to do with a man crush. A couple of years ago when Portis was hurt, Betts did great. He hasn't had that many carries since. I don't where the idea of him having so many chances comes from. Put Portis in for 4 or 5 carries a game and see how he does. We could have Sproles behind Portis and he still isn't going to do much if you don't give him the ball. Betts got about 4.67 carries a game in 13 games last year. What kind of numbers are you looking for?

Took the words...

I mean sure Betts has disappointed from time to time, especially w/ the fumbles. But in all his time in the NFL the one opportunity he got to carry a team he racked up yards like, wait for it, L. Tomlinson. Betts started every game the 2nd half of the '06 season and the only RB to compile more yards in that span was LT. True shit check it out everybody. I think it's on Zorn to utilize Betts and change our rushing scheme. Basically, I think Ladell should be our work-horse in the 1st half of every game, getting lots of carries in a row cuz when in rhythm he's solid. This way Portis can 1) have a shot at defenses a bit worn down so he gets more breakaway opportunities 2) stay healthier longer in the season. Personally, i don't believe we'll be a contender for anything as long as CP is wore out by week 10.

... obviously Betts has to fix the fumbles to make this plan work. Coaching has to be a part of the problem/solution and I sort of think back to how NY worked intensively w/ Tiki to fix this issue.

I agree Goat. The problem with Betts is, he's never in long enough to GET a rhythm.

I just see Betts as having the same style as Portis, so why keep both? Portis is obviously the better back and we are married to him due to his contract. So why not add a speedster to offset Portis's smash-mouth style?

Betts in 2006 had 4 TD's, LT had 28.

I think the skins could use a homerun hitter in the backfield, like Jerius Norwood is to Micheal Turner, Leon Washington : Thomas Jones, Maurice Jones-Drew was to Fred Taylor.

Re: If we had to part w/ one more player...

The main problem is the O-line and passing game. We can argue back and fourth over Betts and Portis, but until we get a passing game and an O-line that can block we will still be a one dimensional offense. So you could have Sproles back there and with defenses playing 9 in the box he isn't gonna get any further then Betts or Portis would have.

Now who else can mimmick Brian Westbrook better on the scout team O before we play Philly than Byron? What would we do without him?

In all seriousness he was on the practice squad and really wasn't affecting our active roster all too much. Maybe I'm biased because I played with and against his older brother at DeMatha, but I still like him.

He's on the roster now. I'd rather have a LB of equal or higher quality in his spot going into camp.

Point taken, but I believe that he has another year at least of practice squad eligibility.

I'm not sure if he does. A player can only spend 3 years on the PS but only 2 on the same teams PS unless that teams active roster never dipped below the 53 man limit.

Any player that would create cap room w/o bringing down team performance.
I would need to know the cap figures to make a suggestion.

Wynn, Thrash, Betts, in that order. Betts is the only one worth a darn and he makes the most money so if we needed cap room he is the choice. If we need to free a roster spot..Wynn and Thrash are next hopefully.

Yeah, I gotta go Rabach too. He frees up a good amount of cap space without costing too much. We most likely could upgrade through the draft. He seems to have slowed down, and I just don't think he creates enough of a push up the middle.

Re: If we had to part w/ one more player...

For the FA gurus out there... what center(s) might become available after the draft who would be an upgrade over Rabach. I'm just thinking if we don't get Mack then somebody else will, along w/ Unger, and that should put some C talent on the market.

... cuz yeah of every potential cut mentioned in this thread erasing Rabach saves us the most money.

What about Smoot? He plays 10-12 yards off the line, he is an automatic first down. His cap number is over 4mil. It seems easier to find a 3rd corner than a starting center.
