Why is he done for? He didn't say he WANTED to secede. He said they could if they wanted to. I think he was basically just asserting the right. It's not like he started some movement to leave the Union.
I believe all this talk is to shore up his "conservative" creds. Hutchinson can flip the scripts on his ass and claim "we're Americans, and always will be. Secession talk irresponsible and if we want to take back our country we should elect officials such as myself to represent you at home and in Washington."
LOL, I've often thought that about Texas, divide it to east texas / west texas. But then again, what does west Texas have to offer anyone? That is like the mole on texas as a whole. But I guess every state needs an imperfection right?
They already have the Cowboys!

I agree. I just don't think he is done. It actually makes me laugh how we have politicians coming out of the woodwork talking about how bad politicians are. The irony is thick. I feel like telling Perry, "Hey I agree you should have the right to leave if you want. Other than that you are a douche just like every other politician in this country. A squirrel trying to get a nut."

I am wary of politicians (basically all of them) who all of a sudden have things to say. Especially things that magically resonate with current political undertones. Funny how that happens.
If we're talking pratically then yeah no chance this ever happens. Or is even attempted. It's just posturing anyways. If we are talking philosophically why can't Texas leave if they want?
Manifest Destiny?

I believe in being classy and leaving somethings unsaid for nothing good would come of them. One shouldn't for example bring up how you tea-bagged your wife the night before at a formal dinner in front of guests.

I don't see it as unclassy. Just pandering rhetoric. And I think he'd disagree that "nothing good would come from them".

It is unbecoming of a governor to talk of secession. He may disagree but that doesn't mean he is right. He is either a remarkably a stupid man or disingenuous.
Wow I'm shocked? The richest conservative state in the country isn't happy that their oil buddies aren't running the show in Washington anymore(the same people who put us in this mess) and now they are threatening to secede when they don't like how the new government is trying to fix this awful mess. Good luck with that Texas.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH!!!
There's a lot more to this than taxes.. and a lot of states are at least semi-on board .. I don't see any attempts at seceding coming up anytime soon, but the fed needs to realize that they were created by the states and not the other way around. Forcing states to change laws vs not receiving fed money is bullying, especially when the money is coming FROM the states and their citizens

and are you people even following this? or at the very least reading the article?

he said that some texans might want that down the line, but he would not want to do such
California would be a 3rd-world country without Federal help. :D
They could establish their own taxes and they wouldn't have to pay taxes to the feds anymore -- but yeah it'd be a sobering time for them to try to structure their new "country"

anyways, nobody's seceding but it's a very good message that the states are sending
