Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
It's funny how Zorn dislikes the shotgun and two years now has brought in "system" QBs whose success is strongly tied to the formation.

I was (am) hoping we'd sign the other Maryland tackle, Dane Randolph. Did he get drafted? He sounds like a guy Buges could mold into a decent player. |

sometimes i wonder about you Terp fans. if these guys are so good, why isn't Maryland consistently playing in the B.C.S series?

He was being sarcastic. The same exact things can be (and were) said about Brennan who somehow is the next coming (in some fans eyes) of Tom Brady. |

So far the list:
QB-Chase Daniel (Missouri) OT-Scott Burley (Maryland) DE-Derek Walker (Illinois) WR-Josh Briscoe (Tennessee) C-Edwin Williams (Maryland) WR-Jaison Williams (Oregon) CB-Doug Dutch (Michigan) DT-Brigham Harwell (UCLA) LB-Ronnie Palmer (Arizona) |

For the record, not a Terps fan, just think we hit the jackpot with Barnes and Williams. Barnes is a strong nickel-corner, which you need more than ever these days. And I think Williams can be our starting C sooner than later. |
Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
For the record I am Terps fan. I was excited last year when we got Crummey & I'm 10times more excited about getting Williams. He is a steal and coworker who went to college with him told me he is a life long Redskins fan.

He's getting a lot of love from those who generally know their stuff around here. Why? and, if he's such a steal, what were the reasons he was not on anyone's radar? Just curious. |

Yep. We should trade Collins for a pick next year to let Colt and Daniels fight for #2 and #3. SO glad we picked up that Center from MD. |
Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
Easy guys, edwin williams doesn't seem so sexy according to scouts inc
Overall Football Traits Production 2 2004: Maryland red shirts Williams. 2005: Williams plays in the final 10 games of the season. 2006-2008: Williams starts 39 games at center. Height-Weight-Speed 3 Adequate height and good bulk but marginal top-end speed. Durability 2 Durability isn't a concern to our knowledge. Character 2 2008: Member of the 2008 Terrapin Council, the team's leadership committee. 2004: Offensive scout team player of the year. Offensive Center specific Traits Strength/Toughness 4 Runs though downfield blocks and flashes the ability to put linebackers on their backs. (see 2008 Clemson game) Upper body strength is just adequate and doesn't jar defenders with a violent initial punch. Appears to gear down before the whistle too much. Agility 4 Doesn't show great body control in space and loses balance at times. Moves well laterally but struggles to change directions quickly. Awareness 3 Keeps head on a swivel and does a nice job of recognizing line stunts/blitzes. Vocal, appears to read defensive fronts well and makes sound line calls. Appears to look left when first step is to that side during 2008 Clemson game. Pass Protection 3 Takes first step as snaps the ball and gets set quickly. Digs in and flashes the ability to hold ground working against bull rushers but doesn't sink hips well enough and it could be more of an issue at the NFL level. Run Blocking 3 Quicker than fast and can beat defenders to the point of contact. Gets adequate hand placement and fights to stay in position once locked on but doesn't get great push, leans and slips off some blocks as a result. Shows far better range than timed speed suggests. Does a good job of opening hips when asked to pull or trap and efficient getting around the corner. |

because of an UDFA? not a chance lol Zorn stated we'd have 4 bodies in at QB before the season, I mean, we're not going to keep Collins forever, maybe not Colt either |

Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
Daniels;
Analysis Positives: Gutty, competitive field general. A virtual coach on the field. Reads defenses well and checks down effectively. Good accuracy to all levels. Shows enough zip in the short to intermediate throws when given a deep pocket. Good touch to place the ball between the linebackers and safeties down the seams. More elusive than often given credit for. Can buy time in and out of the pocket and shows good accuracy on the move. Negatives: May be too short for the NFL. Scouts believe his success in this system is greatly tied to throwing out of the shotgun -- and thereby the open passing lanes and middle underneath passes of the scheme. Seemed to provide further evidence of this theory with his struggles at the East-West Shrine game. Questionable arm strength. Has the zip to complete the short and intermediate passes, but has to wind-up for longer throws and due to his lack of height and release point, longer passes tend to sail. Camp Fodder. Perhaps I'm wrong and they can Collins to get younger, but I doubt it. Edit: Although my mags compare him to Jeff Garcia.
Signing Chase Daniels as an undrafted rookie is a good selection. First of all by signing an undrafted quarterback, it doesn't inflame the poor relationship between the Redskins and Jason Campbell. Secondly, Daniels was a standout at Mizzou. I live in Missouri and watch Mizzou every week, Daniels is one of the most accurate and smart quarterbacks to come along. What he lacks in size, he more than makes up with tuffness and execution. He is short, just like Jeff Garcia, but he is built sturdy like a running back and can run if necessary. I would like to see Colt Brennan win the backup quarterback job and allow Collins to be released. |

I think he plays above his natural talent level. Smart, good kid who has probably overachieved much of his life. You need talent to succeed at the NFL level, so I think maybe his "lack" of talent and the fact that he plays C/G knocked him down toward the later rounds of the draft. Still, having been around him (way back when he was in high school, granted) I think there's really something special about him. He'll go out there, work hard, and won't make mistakes. |

Yeah. I am sure that players like M.Colston or J. Peters also got "average" grades. Being a Maryland grad, I would love to see the Terps' players do well in the pros. I would like it even more if they did well in the pros for the 'Skins! |

I certainly agree, but my one hesitation is that leaves us with NO verteran leadership in a position that requires it. |

Rumor has it now that B-Bitch spoke with JC over the weekend. According to B-Bitch JC never said he wanted to be traded if we picked up Sanchez. According to B-Bitch JC is just as confused as to who or where that rumor started but supposedly he's claiming to never have demanded a trade. Although I wonder how much of it is JC was pissed and spoke to people in confidence probubly pissed off at what the team was trying to do and it got leaked. Now he can say he never spoke to the media or said that statement. I don't know. but as long as we are all a big happy family then I'm good. Over the weekend I had lost a lot of respect for JC thinking he could have taken the high road and looked like a saint. If he truly did not say that then he's back to being a saint and hope he does well. |

Zorn said that Campbell has to understand the Cutler and Sanchez situations and that he believes that he does, that some of that is for Campbell and they're moving forward with him the starter. Said they don't know whether Campbell will be the franchise qb or not, but it's up to them to see and that's what they want and they know that it's what Campbell wants as well. Said he thought that the reason Campbell never freaked out or got pissed off was that Zorn was constantly communicating with him and that Campbell didn't necessarily think that we had given up on him. |
Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
Any updates on the UDFA's? Any of the OT's signed?
Yes, I know they would be developmental - so was Jason Peters. As with the draft, UDFA's are a crapshoot with longer odds. Since that is the case, I think we should fill every open roster space with OT's and see if maybe one can be keeper. |

I agree. He's durable, vocal, and unlike Rabach it sounds like he makes good reads and line calls. He's not a star player, but if this wasn't the deepest center class in years, he would have been drafted for sure. I agree with SmootSmack that he could be a nice steal. |

I've seen 2 reports that said us and 1 that said TB, though there's always some sort of report when an UDFA is talking to a team that it's a deal In seeking clarification I just learned that Chase Daniel chose us over Dallas, his favorite team growing up. Seems like he felt he had a better chance here, I guess especially since Dallas drafted that guy in the 3rd, and he said him and Colt became good friends so he likes having a friend in town, and apparently Zorn kept contact with him throughout the draft, said the Skins would carry 3 (and maybe 4?) QBs... 4? are we planning a trade before the deadline or something? |

Well there's no way we waste a roster spot on 4 QBs. If we have a 4th they'll be a scout team QB.
