Re: Who would you rather have in round 5 - Cody Glenn or Jamon Meredith/Duke Robinson?
What if Duke Robinson becomes a bust or doesnt ever crack the starting lineup, then wouldn't it be smart that we didnt pick him? People didnt agree with the Chris Horton pick and I think that worked out pretty well dont you?
And welcome by the way!
While I agree that the thread is useless in that "it doesn't really matter now" (um, does talking about the Redskins on the internet ever "really matter"?) I have to disagree with the premise that "People didn't agree with the Chris Horton pick a year ago. I am not picking on you particularly, I have just seen that logic thrown around a ton (mostly on NFL.com message boards) and it just strikes me as completely false. My sense is that no one really cared much about the Chris Horton pick because he was drafted with a compensatory 7th and was like three picks from being "Mr. Irrelevant." So I have trouble believing anyone was really bashing the Horton pick, just not true. To confirm that I went back and searched this site and found the following "meet Christopher Horton" thread. Couple people said they really liked the pick, couple were questioning ESPN.com's rating system, but no one was basing Chris Horton (most people probably didn't think he would make the team, and didn't really care since he was drafted so late). http://www.thewarpath.net/nfl-draft-central/23352-christopher-horton-profile.html The reason that people are hanging on to the 5th round pick this year is because there were a couple of guys sitting there that everyone on the internet had rated much higher. Since everyone is now a draft expert it causes some irritation. I was preturbed at the time of the pick too and really wanted Meredith there. After listening to some local sports guys here in Columbia discuss him in the past couple of days I am not so sure. They basically said he always looked the part but didn't always come to play (I'm not a Gamecock fan, I didn't watch any games this year). Anyway, that was probably the info the USC coaches (do they still speak with Spurrier?) gave to the Skins and to other NFL teams. They probably also saw that inconsistentcy on tape. Hell, the guy even got moved inside to guard, not exactly a move you want to see from a guy you are projecting at either tackle spot. Whatever, I agree, pick is made, move on. But just don't throw out Horton's name to support your argument. And I'm sure no one will read this whole post. Apologies for the length. |

While yes, this is the internet, I think the people that run this site encourage people to make some type of argument if you are praising/criticizing something or someone in the team, and not just blurt out a rant. Yes, the FO has made stupid mistakes, but don't act like EVERYTHING they do is stupid. |

Re: Who would you rather have in round 5 - Cody Glenn or Jamon Meredith/Duke Robinson?
I would have gone with Duke...but he fell down the draft board for some reason. It wasn't just the skins who were passing on him so it's hard to point any fingers at the Redskins for doing the same.

Re: Who would you rather have in round 5 - Cody Glenn or Jamon Meredith/Duke Robinson?
Duke Robinson...Great size and a workhorse in college. Him and Phil Loadholt dominated defenses at Oklahoma. Yes I know this isn't college but this pick would have obviously added depth. I hope Devon Clark and Chad Linehart get some playing time this season. What's the story with Pete Kendell? Does the team plan on resigning him?
Devin Clark and Chad Rinehart are slated to get a lot of reps in training camp and are expected to provide depth along the interior line. Pete Kendall is a free agent still looking for a starting job somewhere. Expect him to re-sign right before camp if he's not signed anywhere else. |
Jessica Alba? Hmm Good choice there. I'm not sure who I would have taken. Oh wait, I know, Scarlett Johansson.
It is insightful comments like these which keep me on the Warpath. Scarlett Johansson brings it. Excellent physical condition, good attitude, positive presence in the locker room. |
Re: Who would you rather have in round 5 - Cody Glenn or Jamon Meredith/Duke Robinson?
If we were going to draft a OLB in the 5th round, I wish we wouldn't have traded down and would have gotten Marcus Freeman...but since we did trade down, I would have gone with Duke Robinson

Re: Who would you rather have in round 5 - Cody Glenn or Jamon Meredith/Duke Robinson?
Ruhskins - don't mean to be critical starting a thread like this - I was just curious as to who Redskins fans would have rather have had with the 5th round pick between the lb they choose and the supposedly 2 best offensive linemen remaining on the board when they had the pick - thats all.
Personally I hope Glenn kicks ass and is a starter for years to come - I guess I just fear that our offensive line is not going to last too much longer and was hoping some draft picks in this area would start helping the team transition (over the next few years) and not get our qb killed in the process. |

Re: Who would you rather have in round 5 - Cody Glenn or Jamon Meredith/Duke Robinson?
Anyone besides Glenn I would've been fine with in the 5th and I think Meredeth can be RT in the future, but we can't change the pick so I just hope Glenn kicks ass.

Re: Who would you rather have in round 5 - Cody Glenn or Jamon Meredith/Duke Robinson?
Either duke or jamon which ever could play RT
Not Cody Glenn cause I've never heard of him |

Re: Who would you rather have in round 5 - Cody Glenn or Jamon Meredith/Duke Robinson?
Neither, I was hoping we would have selected Marcus Freeman out of OSU. He is a freakish athlete and played well for the buckeyes on special teams and in a back up 3rd down linebacker. He can cover and pressure the QB, and wrap-up tackle.

[/sarcasm]
So your saying you liked this guy and you've heard of him?!? This might sound weird, but have you ever been able to look at a players name and be like ya I couldn't see his name being called in the NFL when he's on the field..well I do that, and about 90% of the time I'm right about how I think will stay and who'll be gone and out of the league...yes i know its unfair and innaccurate judgement, but my point is that I don't see but two or three of these guys making an impact or sticking to the NFL, I also watch college football religiously and for the few Nebraska games I saw, I heard glenns name once, and that was when he is an RB...not at LB so I'm gonna call it now that this guy gets practiced squaded and is out of the league and a wasted pick.....and yes this guy over both of those tremendous OL that were still around at in the fifth is a stupid wasted pick...I heard NFL analysts always talk about merdith and Robinson, and not one talk about this guy..sure this is unfair since none of us had heard of fletcher or kurt warner when they were in college, and we didn't think they would make they're teams but beleive me this guy isn't worth taking over the others who I feel would of had a better NFL future than this chump...(and he already has a bigger mountain to climb because he lied about his suspension) |

You're ranting over a 5th round pick. Not all teams draft picks are going to be winners and each team has its own reasons for picking a player. 2nd. Robinson and Meridith were projected 2nd/3rd rounders, yet 30 teams passed on these guys until late in the 5th round. 3rd. I still think that if the team was going to address the offensive line, the sure thing would have been picking up Oher at 13th. They didn't, so let's not pretend that a 3rd, 5th, 6th, or 7th round would have fixed that. |

Fire mcshay hire me...you clearly don't get my point, the point is that this guy is a no name and the other two where names, this guy when he got drafted I'm sure pretty much all skin fans were like "who the hell is that" (same with eddie Williams, but that's another story) this guy wasn't even that productive in college, he won't stay on our team whereas one of those two guards probably would have...you know and I k ow this , your just trying to disprove my point |

So your not even sure of your own argument? How do you know that he won't stay on the team? Did you talk to the Skins FO? He was a fifth rounder. I don't know any fifth rounder that signs a 6year 70million dollar deal. Just because you don't know who he is doesnt mean that he wont stay on the team. |

Well I can accept that, but don't say that we should've taken the two offensive linemen who were projected as 2nd/3rd rounders yet they fell all the way down to the late 5th round. |
Re: Who would you rather have in round 5 - Cody Glenn or Jamon Meredith/Duke Robinson?
I don't think that any of them will be available in next year's draft, so I really don't have an opinion.

Re: Who would you rather have in round 5 - Cody Glenn or Jamon Meredith/Duke Robinson?
I saw OU play three times last year and I was impressed by Robinson (and Loadholt too) in each game.
On that basis, I would have to say that I would have taken Robinson in the 5th round. |
