Dude, I've been secretly praying that this will happen to us... Campbell to wake up and have a Brees like year after SD took Rivers.. One can hope!:headbange |
Re: Why I like Jason Campbell
No NFL QB deserves big success more than JC...that's just my opinion but i really mean it. Was thinking of starting my own JC thread last week to ask this question but I'll just do it here:
how many games does Jason have to win, in which he clearly takes the offense into his hands and wills his way to victory, in order to secure confidence in Danny/Vinny? I think he's got to have a couple of those games, but they must be in November and/or December. Thinking back to last year what i saw, again just my opinion here, was Jason takeover games early in the season. Specifically he led us to come-behind victories against NO and Dallas (1st game) that we're awesomely impressive (ya'll might remember comments of pro-bowl season and the like). He also rocked the Lions in a closer than hoped game. But my point is these came early in the season and were long forgotten by end of season, w/ the line in collapse and opposing defenses shutting down our air attack. I think for Danny and the FO to have full faith in JC he'll have to be the man late in the season when things heat up. Admittedly i'm a JC apologist...i really, really have the utmost respect for the kid, but trying to be objective i don't see any reason why he can't be great all season. Zorn is helping the situation in all the looks at WR, now we need to get a very nice surprise on the right side of the o-line (current player or otherwise) to give Jason the chance he deserves. |

You hint at this in your own remarks. I think JC needs to win in January (not even Nov. or Dec.) to keep The Danny placated. The rest of the FO may be placated by November or December wins. Just my two cents. |

Re: Why I like Jason Campbell
He has shown that he is truly a class act and a professional. I can't understand why the 'skins were even thinking off dealing him. He has shown signs of being a quality QB. The offensive line got banged up mid-season in '08. Plus everyone knows that he has had to learn several different offenses in the past few years. JASON GO OUT AND PROVE ALL THE NAY-SAYERS WRONG.

Re: Why I like Jason Campbell
Luckily, Campbell's coach understands what a QB will have to endure without a stable offensive line, unlike many fans:
If the line holds up and protects Jason like in the first half of last season, he'll be a Pro Bowl QB for years to come. |

Re: Why I like Jason Campbell
Conspiracy theory time. What if there were sorts of hype on trading Campbell, created during the off season, to motivate him to step up. What if the front office was going through the motions, having the talks, taking it as far as they could without actually pulling the trigger on the trade (players or draft picks) to replace JC? All this done to see how he would handle it, motivate him to take the roll on the team that is now being reported. I know if my boss was talking outwardly, or "let it leak", about bringing in a replacement for me, regardless of the how I thought I was doing at my job, I know I would take measures to step up that much more. I doubt it.. but interesting perspective.
Regarding the thread title, I also think JC is a class act. I think he does have what it takes to take us to the next level. As mentioned earlier in the thread, one man does not make a team. Looking at the perrianal winners of late, it isn't the big "show boats" that are doing it, but more so the quieter, humble ones. IMHO. |
There obviously has been a conspiracy which keeps Chase Daniel from starting. He's proven himself worthy of the starting QB spot.
If we can have the Cult of Colt, we can also have the Case for Chase. Or maybe not...:)
Funny, I was just talking to a friend about this... but asked the question of how long it would be before there was a "Chase for Chase". |

I would call it a possibly good motivational strategy. I also would call it likely not too far from the truth. With both Cutler and Sanchez, we could have pulled the trigger if we REALLY had wanted to. But, in both cases, all that was done was noisemaking. I think the Sanchez noisemaking had the additional goal of helping Orakpo to fall to us. I would add that the same strategy apparently is playing out at WR and OL - that is, everywhere where Zorn has openly said that he wants guys already on the roster to "step up" this year. And, yeah, JC is one class act. |
Re: Why I like Jason Campbell
I think there was genuine interest in Cutler and to a lesser degree Sanchez as well. I don't buy it was simply a motivational ploy for Campbell. That's really going too far.
|
Re: Why I like Jason Campbell
Ay, if it lights a fire under his behind I'm all for it. JC needs to step up and take this team where it needs to go and if talk of trade doesn't do it or hurts his feelings he should consider another profession. Time to get on the horse and lead the war.

Although it seems clear to me that the interest in Sanchez was never great, it is hard for me to disagree with you. I do not know what was said behind closed doors. And it makes some good football sense to at least inquire about both Cutler and Sanchez, since both are good QB's. But it doesn't have to be an either/or. It could be that inquiries were made to see if we could get either cheaply. If not, then the noise could be used to motivate JC. Either way, from a certain point of view, the team wins, or thinks that it does anyway. |
