Another egotistical move by Danny Boy. Look, I only know B-Mitch from Redskins Post Game Live. My take on B-Mitch is that he spoke the truth and just said things as they were. If the Redskins played well, he acknowledged it. If they played poorly, he reflected on all the mistakes they made. What's so bad about that?
Is he supposed to commend an owner (Dumb Snyder) and his sidekick (Dumber Cerrato) for mediocre achievement year after year? Maybe Danny can get his head out of his ass and realize that neither he (nor his sidekick) knows anything about football and should let football-minded people run the organization (i.e. GM). Stick to marketing which is more of your forte. So, now, with B-Mitch gone, we get to listen to a season of sugar-coated post game analysis. "Well, the Redskins lost 35-14, turned the ball over four times, commited 1,350 yards in stupid penalties, but they showed a lot of guts, fans." This organization is becoming such a joke! Excuse me, they're becoming a mediocre joke. 8-8 folks for the 2009 season. Mark my words!
If you don't like the B&G...there are 31 other teams to root for. |
What about the Sports Reporters? That is an hour of DS bashing and you don't see Czhzam out of a job.
It is a cost cutting move. I wonder who will take his place on the JT show.
The difference is the Sprots Reporters drive in ratings. Czaban even has a nationally syndicated show, as well as the golf show on weekends. Those guys bring in advertiser dollars, so I don't think they're going anywhere. I can't stand Polin...but Czaban, although a pessimist, is a loyal fan. He just is sort of a prick about what FO decisions he disagrees with...I actually like him. Czaban is articulate and can communicate his view points logically (most times), unlike the unitelligible speaker who got canned. Czaban goes to the games, celebrates in the victories and gets pissed with the defeats. I don't see eye to eye with him most times but, the guy sounds like a fan to me. |

Re: Brian Mitchell let go from ESPN 980
We've got a Red Zebra broadcasting station here in Virginia Beach, but I'm not sure it'll be here much longer.
Starting last week they replaced Steve Czaban's morning show with Mancow; now The Locker Room Show with Doc Walker and Kevin Sheehan is gone in place of Jim Rome, and the John Thompson show has been replaced by a FOX sports show with Chris Meyer. The only thing left is the Sports Reporters. I think it may have something to do with football season being over, specifically the NFL draft. They did the same thing last year -- shifting to less Redskins-related shows. Plus, there's some dispute as to exactly how strong the Redskins are in this area. |

Yeah, I might as well go root for another team too then. I mean who in the world wants to hear the TRUTH about their team week-in and week-out. Shucks, just keep licking their *** and saying how great they are. Hell, we already have Larry Michael; not enough? Let's have 5 more of those clowns! You are the typical Skins' fan: Don't say anything negative about them and just praise 'em to the hilt. |

I would suspect heavy football programming (whether it's the same as last year or different) will return in the fall |

I hope one of them is not Coach Thompson. BTW-I don't like every thing the FO does...I just don't feel the need to bash them at every turn. I don't think that constatnt negativity and borderline disdain for the B&G have any real place or purpose to a fan like myself. If there was anything in which I was interested, that consistently pissed me off or called for my disapproval...I would re-evaluate my interest. As I suggest some of the "Can't take the truth"..."Dumb Danny"..."Tell it like it is"..."Cerrato is an idiot"..."Skins are never gonna win with the FO"..."Keeping it real"..."I hope they fail" would be fans should re-evaluate their interest. Disagreeing with some of the decisions is one thing (ie: Doc Walker, Steve Czaban, Mel Kiper, etc.) but outright bashing (ie: B-Bitch, Pole-Smoking Al Koken, Andy Polin, so far YOU, etc.) is for haters and cowards. If I have have you pegged wrong...that's unfortunate. |

I'm not a homer dude! I don't even listen to Larry "No S" Michael. I just get tired of all the FO bashing...I mean some of these dudes is off the charts. If I had to choose the local analyst I like it would be; Coach Thompson, Doc Walker and sometime Sheehan (spelling). I don't agree with everything the FO does but I don't feel the need to lament about it. Case in point, I really wanted us to go after Maualuga in this draft...we got Orakpo. Not what I was hoping for, but I hope Rak gets double digit sacks this year and each season after that for the next 15. (It also helped that everyone else passed on Rey in the 1st round...maybe YouTube highlights and internet research aren't as good as game film and face-face interviews:-) |
Re: Brian Mitchell let go from ESPN 980
Too bad about B-Mitch, I thought he pointed out the good & bad of the team. Unfortunately there has been a bit more bad lately than good so he sort of came off as negative when he was really just calling it like it was.

Did I call you a homer? I don't even remember referring to you at all. WTF are you talking about and why are you quoting me? I was replying to talby1027. Michael sugarcoats everything and Mitchell constantly criticizes the team in the name of truth. The real truth is somewhere in between. |

I can see the similarity. Get Thompson to say, "LUUUV, PEEEEACE and SOUL" and I'll let you know for sure. |
Re: Brian Mitchell let go from ESPN 980
Well I actually liked and appreciated B Mitch as a voice of reason on the radio. Larry Michael is much more annoying with him sugar coating everything. I don't consider me a "hater lover" nor do I always agree with B Mitch but he was generally knowledgeable and very honest. I am sure a lot of Skins fans like Micheal more as he NEVER has a bad thing to say about the Skins. But truthfully is that realistic or thought provoking information he provides? I watch/listen to him because I am a die hard skins fan but I just rather have someone who will ALWAYS keep it real with me. That said B Mitch will be missed.

Re: Brian Mitchell let go from ESPN 980
The problem I always had with B-Mitch is even when things were going well I don't recall him having much good to say then either. I'm sorry but the guy is definitely slanted to the negative side of things. Probably just his personality but still.

That pretty much sums it up for me. |
Re: Brian Mitchell let go from ESPN 980
Neither B-Mitch or Koken were fired. There contracts came up and 980 chose not to renew them. I think that people are confusing the team's financials with Snyder's other businesses. They are separate.
I think it is understandable that these would be tough times for a radio station and in my opinion I understand B-Mitch not being renewed. I don't think he offers enough insight on topics outside of football. I find him extremely knowlegeable on football issues but on most other topics, you could hear his opinions at a sports bar. I think that Doc is the best personality on 980 but Thompson's connections are sick. He literally can and does have anyone in sports on his show. (Tiger, MJ, Dean Smith, you name it) Best of luck to B-Mitch. I will look forward to hearing him during the season. |

I found Riggo to be entertaining actually. I felt with him it was Redskins first and other sports second. Although the show maybe was a bit too positive on the Redskins, I think they did criticize the team from time to time. Whereas I feel that the Sports Reporters are too eager to criticize the team and I honestly feel they sound like pricks when they do so. |
Re: Brian Mitchell let go from ESPN 980
I don't believe it was personal. However BMITCH doesn't understand that he is not a star athlete any longer. He made himself expendable, meaning easy to release. And if he lucky enough to land another job such as this one, He will find that the people who listen to you matter. And arguing and fighting everyone that calls the show will get your head on the chopping block when you’re not as solid in the profession as everyone else.

 I'm glad I found this site. It seems much more my style & pace. Things just go too fast over there for me anymore. That being said, I liked B-Mitch in the Post Game Live segments on Comcast. I thought most of what he said was honest & direct. he didn't sugar coat anything. He pointed out our mistakes & was usually on point with them. He also praised us when there was praise to be given. Several games at the beginning of last season, he was very impressed with how we were playing. He also pointed out that there were things that we needed to improve upon or teams in the League would take advantage of our weaknesses. Guess what? He was right. He wasn't a Homer, there is no doubt about that. But that's ok. I would rather have someone tell me the truth then dance around the subject & act like everything is ok, when it clearly is not. BTW, I think they should get Emmitt Smith to replace him. That would be pure entertainment, listening to him butcher the English language mercilessly everyday. Priceless. :D |

But certain people can get away with be straight up about things and certain cannot. And I'm not sayiing this to be fact but if you are limited in other sports areas this makes you easy to let go. |

B Mitch was extremely positive about the good start last year. He talked about our weaknesses and he was right. I enjoy him on Comast b/c he speaks his opinion which is generally about right. I do think he can go overboard at times..like w/ CP. I enjoy his commentary though. We gotta remember that we are an average organization at best right now. We haven't won jack for almost 20 years. 20 years!! Some think we're still the same organization and we're not. Something Steve Czaban said was so true a couple years ago. DS needs to put those 3 Lombardy trophies away. Showcase them at Redskins Park but don't bring them out for announcements, signings, etc. Cause we really haven't done squat for a long time and we need to get hungry for another one. I'd rather him come out and tell the fans that we're gonna get another one of those soon and we're letting the past go for right now. I can't say it as well as he but hopefully you got the point. |
Re: Brian Mitchell let go from ESPN 980
B-Mitch tells the truth about this organization, which pisses lots of people off.
