Re: Doughty to start over Horton
I sReed Doughty the answer to all the problems we have on defense?
The answer: No. But, he is playing better than Horton. That's a start. Playing favorties doesn't make winners. It's called accountability. Perhaps we should also be starting Marko Mitchell and hold Thomas and kelly accountable too. |
Re: Doughty to start over Horton
I retract my previous statement...Reed plays with alot of heart!

I agree. Start who is playing the best right now. Horton will still play alot. I'm expecting more blitzing w/Doughty starting. He has played very well and looks like the best blitz option we have right now. He has performed well and executes the plays correctly. He's solid. |

See I keep hearing this but the fact of the matter is that Landry was probably at his best as a pro during the second half of 2007 when he took over at FS. I still can't figure out though if Landry's drop off is due mainly to Blache's scheme or Landry's fundamentals.
I totally agree. He rarely is a position to make a play in this scheme. I remember when we played Seattle in the playoffs and he had 2 INTS adn was playing lights out. I was like whoa. He hasn't been the same yet. I think Blache is mainly to blame. Seems like ever since he got trucked by Jacobs he hasn't been the same either.
That's truly where it all seems to stem from. After that game, Landry got NOTICABLY more tattoos and piercings and started playing like shit. I think the fact that he got run over hurt his pride, which he showed by tats and piercings. Instead of making big hits and going for the ball, it seems to wants to make a highlight reel nailing somebody so bad it's screwing up his play. |
Re: Doughty to start over Horton
I'm thinking they'll probably put Horton in for most coverage plays. Try to keep doughty in on plays like blitzes, etc. For the run stop basically.
I agree, but I think that Horton has a nose for the ball, in almost every turnover he is there. |

Re: Doughty to start over Horton
Reed has always been cut from the classic Skins mold -- unheralded, hard working guy who isn't spectacular but quietly gives it 110% and gets the job done. Plus, given his personal struggles with his kid, how can you not root for the guy?
I've been rooting for the dude since he got here. He's probably not "the answer" but I don't see how solid, workmanlike commitment to fundamentals can be bad for a team in dire need of cohesion and performance. |
Re: Doughty to start over Horton
He definitely deserves the starting job. Ironically I think he also might make Landry better as Landry has played his best football playing with Doughty.

Re: Doughty to start over Horton
doughty did good today and horton played well too. hortons too good to be on the bench...my solution: why don't we play a 4-2-5 Defense with Orakpo Griffin Haynesworth and Carter/Jarmon on the DL Rocky and London at LB and Hall Rogers Doughty Horton and Landry in the Secondary. And we could have horton play like a polamalu and move him around all over the field, like he could line up next to the LB's or stay back and roam in the secondary or act as a blitzer next to the DL.

Send it to Blache and see what he thinks. |
Re: Doughty to start over Horton
Yeah Doughty did a great job against one of the best teams and Qb in the NFL. I believe Josh Johnson was starting his first NFL game and the Bucs are terrible. 16-13 to the Bucs is not good.

This isn't the first time he's played like a man possessed in 2009. This is however the first time he's gotten to do it getting the majority of the reps. More importantly McIntosh has been a beast at the will spot. However I understand the sentiment towards getting our best players on the field. |
Re: Doughty to start over Horton
Reed just does his job. Always in position and always makes the tackle. He's become one of my favorite Redskins.

would you rather he miss tackles and we end up losing the game? wtf is wrong with some people |

wtf is wrong with some people
I am not talking about Doughty or the way he played today. I am talking about false hope. We should not be measuring ourselves against the Bucs, Lions or Rams games. They are the three worst teams in the NFL. We should beat these teams. More than by three points. Oh wait you are one of those 'a win is a win' guys. Regardless of how well we play. I will be the first one to proclaim Doughty the second coming of Ronnie Lott if he continues to play well and plays well against the big teams (Steelers, Giants, Saints etc.). Yes, Doughty had a good game against a very weak team that is starting a QB that has very little experience. Wtf are you talking about? |

That being said, very few teams have been consistently good this year...outside of the Colts and the Giants. Jacksonville was supposed to be dead in the water and they destroyed a now 0-4 Tennessee Titans. That being said, even if we squeak by with a 4-2, I can see teams like the Iggles and the Cowpukes thinking that we're an easy win and underestimate us. |

Is it really that bad to be giving props to the guy? He seemed to be in position and made sure tackles the majority of the time. If he does that every game it wont matter who we play against it makes our whole team that much better and if everyone does that well then we have no problems! |
Re: Doughty to start over Horton
Where is the so-called Doughty Doubter?
|
Re: Doughty to start over Horton
Just a note, but the last defensive play Doughty and Reed were on the field not landry.

Who's Reed? Is he friends with Armstrong? or is he Doughty's alter ego? LOL. |
