I'm not sure what you're advocating. That Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. King shouldn't strive for peace? Or that Aung San Suu Kyi and Nelson Mandela aren't deserving of recognition? Peace might be elusive but it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
I am not advocating anything, simply making a statement.
While there have been MANY revered and deserving recipients. When the world's most famous terrorist won the Peace Prize, irrepairable damage was done, IMO. AND I am not surprised you do not support it.
Sometimes you just can't help but.....poke it with a stick. I can appreciate that.
If you put it in the context that he won it with Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres it doesn't seem so bad. Perhaps it's time to create a new prize that awards people we only like. Oh never mind, that's impossible because one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

What a shock , I new that , which shows how F'd up the NPP award can be . Wasn't he in talks with PETA to be there spokesperson way back when :) If Castro dies soon , he and saddam will be in line for the award .

Re: Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

Dude its there have been a couple botches. At the time of the award it was justified; people change, situations change, stuff happens. Thats just the way life is. That doesnt mean the entire NPP goes to shambles.

Under the right circumstance you are capable of as much evil as Hitler wouldn't you agree?

I didnt realize that Rush Limbaugh was a nominee in 2007, I guess maybe the NPP still has merit?

I allow for the possibility of many things philosophically. I REALLY hope I would hold the line this side of societal extermination.

The litigious Landmark Legal Foundation who he is a board member of and is headed by his self-described mentor Mark Levin nominated him. Which is to say he nominated himself and the whole thing was a spectacle.

I wonder how many people have won trying to bring peice in the middle east especially the Isreal/Palistine conflict. Hows that working out.
He did invade two countries, both of which we are still at war with...err...liberating.
We did invade two countries , but we are not at war with them , meaning , we are working with the Gov'ts of both Iraq/Afganistan . Those gov'ts are maybe " puppet " , but we are not attemping to rid the earth of Islam/Arabic or Muslims like Hitler attempted to do with Jews . I also doubt anyone in Europe / Russia believes that Nazi-Germany would not have killed the vast majority of them and forced the rest to become Nazi/fascists , which we are not forcing on them . Nice post Saden , enjoy the love my fellow Redskin ....

How are we judging what constitutes better? By death toll? Right to vote? Peace?

My point was that they have giving the award to several people for trying to bring peace to the Middle East (I think the last was Jimmy Carter) but nothing has changed. How long can they keep giving out the award for this cause with no results?
Hilarious.

Speaking of NP winner Al Gore, at least he was actually VP and made a movie to "earn" his award.

The nomination deadline was Feb 1...about 10 days into the Obama Presidency.

That right there tells you how much of a joke the Nobel has become. It's so far away from when it was awarded to men like Albert Einstein.

Alfred Nobel would be ashamed to know how his name has been made into such a farce.

This is like giving the Heisman Trophy to a kid who's still playing High School ball. Sure, he COULD earn it someday, but he hasn't stepped on the college field yet.

It's so ridiculous I can't even be mad about it...nothing but laughs are appropriate.
i completely agree. what a joke that "PRIZE" has become.

under this thought process, we would have never invaded Iraq. or Afghanistan. or any other country, because we can never be sure of the results.

No your missing the point. They keep giving out the award for that and nothing changes. 10 years from now someone will get the NPP for their work trying to bring peace to the middle east then again in another 10 years.

It doesn't matter. All that matters is that my squeeze is coming by this weekend. May Obama cure cancer and obliterate the Martians, thus improving our standard of living and adding to our PAX Americana.
I hope all of you have a good weekend. If you're getting over the flu like me, good luck. If you haven't had it, you're effed. I suggest you buck Nyquill and plan to take at least two days off.

That does bring out an interesting point. I generally have supported our savior mentality around the world as the places we have gone, much good has been done. Perhaps we would be more popular with the "savee's" if we paid less attention to installation of an "American style" society and just removed.....(killed) the offending dictator, and other problem officials?
