How do you fix a running back that is past his prime, isnt fast, and trips when wide open like the OP stated. Also maybe because of his previous ballhandling problems, he runs fulltime with both hands on the ball. He might not fumble much anymore but it decreases his breaking tackles.
As much as i dislike JC, i hope we use first pick for OL. Landry can improve and is still young, on the fence about seeing what we can get for him.
With the skins it's hard to tell the play calling is so predictable it's a shame. We always motion to the side we run the ball too and we rarely of any run the ball to the right side. So i believe until we get some good o-line talent you can't tell with Portis just yet. |

I agree with most you said, but its plain fact this season that when he has a hole he cant get through. And this might sound crazy, but now the way he runs with both arms wrapped around the football is why he always seems to be off balance. Call me crazy he just not running right. |
Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?
Betts, Rock, Daniels, Smoot, Collins
Betts not productive anymore. Will probably be 31 next year. Rock is not a difference maker will be 31 next year. DT can take his place. Daniels getting old. Need to let some young guys get a chance so we can build our D-line for the future. Smoot - If Barnes and Tryon develop. He is on the decline. Collins - Old - If we get rid of him we could sign JC as a backup (why? it will be a uncapped seson - depends on if we are still running the WCO and how he does the rest of the year) and bring in or draft another QB and have Colt as the 3rd QB. |
And without the physical tools that Jason Campbell had, he found a way to make this team a passing threat. Just because he was in the system for so long ? He had the same O-Line that JC couldn't play behind, the same receiviers that JC had, but he was successful. Defenses, especially the defenses that we played toward the end of that year counldn't take advantage of him.
How would it take the average QB to master a 700 page playbook? Answer is years and TC was in that system in KC for years. C'mon man you know as well as i know that the playbook expand when he came in for those 4 games. So that made a big difference Saunders had more confidence in him because he spent more time in his system than JC. I don't think folks really understand how hard it is to be a NFL QB. Moreless, a NFL QB that changes systems every year or so. Imagine have to learn the position of QB and a whole new system at once repeatedly. The growing pains for that individual is a lot longer then others. Stability is the key to success in running an organization which we haven't that the last pass 10 year. |

Your right and they wont ever understand it and they don't want to understand it. Remember JC is the worst QB ever..lol [end sarcasm] He is not the best QB but he isn't Heath Shuler!! I remember someone saying no one will sign him. I would put money that someone will. Whether he gets the starting job or not who knows. But he is no Ryan Leaf or Jamarcus Russell that's for sure. Radiers would snatch him up in a heartbeat and some other teams. But people love to hate JC for some reason. I could understand if he was absolutely horrible and a asshole. But he is neither one of those. |

yeah i don't how much those bone spurs have to do with it. especially with them bringing in so many RB's to workout and all. I do agree he has lost something not sure if he has lost everything yet. |

Trade Haynesworth??? Not gonna happen. Its not like he is playing bad. Dan would still have to pay all the guaranteed money and he wouldn't do that. I also think if next year is uncapped I think his contract was done so a lot of the cap hit would be absorbed next year. |

Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?
For all the people calling for Campbell to go and draft another QB... is he the problem with the offense? I'm not someone who's on his bandwagon, but I surely don't want to see him gone considering he's going to be better than most rookies and a lot of starting QBs currently.
For those wanting him gone, which presumably would mean we're drafting QB with our first pick and ignoring OL AGAIN, would Peyton Manning or Tom Brady have made us competitive? I really don't think so. It's in the trenches where the problems lie (at least on the offensive side of the ball) and that's what needs to be addressed. Basically, I'd just want to get rid of some veterans on the defensive side of the ball who aren't the same as they used to be. |

How about C.Portis for Darren Mcfadden whatever it takes to get CP out and Mcfadden in.
|

Don't you guys think this is way too early?? But once again, this is the warparth, I'm not supposed to be surprise I guess..
Smoot, R. Thomas, Cartwright, and Betts would be my choices.. And not resign Phillips, Wynn (assuming we resign him back after our punter Smith recovers) and Collins.. I also would try to restructure Randle El and Portis' contracts to lesser value.. |

Yeah, but do you think he will ask for "no practice clause" and an "undermind and alienate team mates and coaches when ever clause" to make up for lost money. |
Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?
Speaking of Portis...it will be an interesting dynamic when Snyder and the Skins finally release CP. With Snyder and CP being great friends I wonder if we'll keep Portis longer than he is serviceable. Also with his contract being a factor we could have Portis even longer than anyone anticipates.

I like CP, but i sure hope your wrong but i got this bad feeling u might be right. Portis has lost some steps and cant seem to pick up his feet high enough off the ground with out tripping, maybe its in his contract to lead the league in phantom tackles. But we should trade him while we can, got to admit he is the best pass blocking back in the league. |
Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?
I hope we win Sunday I live in Charlotte and I am going to the game!!!! Get rid of Betts, Rock, Smoot, Rabach, Daniels, Wynn. 1st round RB u need atleast two. 2nd round LB. 3rd round Jarmon. 4th round OG. 5th round OG. 6th and 7th best available. Lets wait til after the Eagles then start whining.

Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?
I'm assuming that the rest of the year is going to go like the first third. Maybe that makes me pessimistic, but I just don't see it happening this year.
Portis' and Sellers' arguing the other day got me thinking about players on our roster who are still serviceable, but probably not going to be a part of the latest rebuilding effort in DC. So the question is, name players that could still have some trade value and/or represent addition by subtraction. Madden rules apply. (no salary cap considerations, draft status, just who needs to go) My list: 1. Portis. Quite simply, the dude has lost more than a step. He's not really outrunning anyone anymore and his habit of tripping over his own feet when he does break free is frustrating. Couple that with the fact that he doesn't have the physical makeup to be a battering ram and an act that is increasingly wearing thin; and it's time to move on. (i understand this is borderline impossible with the cap) 2. Moss. Inconsistency is the new hallmark of his game. Lazy on some of his routes and hands that are becoming TO-like. Doesn't seem to have the makeup to be a veteran coach type player. Plus, he's one dimensional, once his wheels start to go, it's over. He's still fast so maybe trade him to the Raiders for two first round picks. (oh wait, we're not New England.) 3. Campbell. With our pick in the top 12 of the draft next year, I see us going QB, despite the needs we have at Oline. Campbell just needs to get the hell out of DC. He's a serviceable qb, but he's not going to carry a team with as many holes as the Redskins. I'd love to see a sign and trade for a mid round pick, but I doubt it happens. I can definitely see him succeeding somewhere else. 4. Laron Landry. What have you done in your time in DC? Hmm? Nothing... yup, sounds about right. Despite ridiculous physical gifts, you can't tackle to save your life. You're a strong safety trying to play free. I'm not sure some of the ineffectiveness hasn't been a result of scheme. I mean, does any other team in the league keep the free safety 25 yds off the line of scrimmage? That said, Horton and Doughty are proving to be "good enough" at SS, Landry probably has some value around the league. Really, my hearts not in this one but LL has been extremely disappointing. (ok, let the "retarded thread" bashing begin. :woot:)
Hey can you tell me where to buy what you are smoking. |
Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?
I would cut Portis first. If 2010 is uncapped they need to take advantage of it and cut every player they have with a bad contract. This CBA mess could be a real advantage to the Redskins in terms of fixing thier salary cap. Its a real opportunity for the next coach to start with a clean slate. I really hope thats the way they look at it as opposed to trying to load up for a half assed title run.

Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?
I know this thread isn't supposed to account for salary cap issues, but celts raises a very good point. We need to take advantage of an uncapped 2010.
- Andre Carter - Orakpo needs to move to the full time RDE, forget the SLB. Carter may have some trade value for a draft pick. - Randy Thomas - Injuries have taken their toll. We must dump his contract in the uncapped year. - Portis - Others have metnioned several good reasons, plus I can think of $10M more. - Todd Collins - Weak armed game managers don't get paid $ 3.5M / yr. - Betts - no production, no upside. - Davis - I think this guy has potential, but unless we have a coaching change that's going to employ a ton of 2TE sets and actually get the second TE the ball, Davis is a waste. He has trade value, get a pick for him. - Cartwright - no production - Daniels - old, slow - Colt Brennan - the Cult was fun for a while, but getting outplayed by a 5' 10" rookie says it all. - Moss - but only in a trade for at least a 2nd round pick. He can still be productive. - Smoot - slow, major liability in man coverage. - ARE - $ 5M / yr. is way too much for a 3rd or fourth receiver that has no value in the return game I'm holding on to Landry. The point about him missing tackles is fair. The point about GW mentioning he was a sure tackler is also a valid point. Why the contradiction? Landry is a good tackler near the LoS, not particluarly good in space, IMO. The jury is currently deliberating on JC. We'll find out over the next few weeks. If he continues the same level of play as the last two weeks, he will need to go and will likely have very little or no value. Even if JC goes, IMO it is time to find a replacement for Samuels in the first round of the 2010 draft. He's slowing down and is getting beaten more frequently off the edge. Rabach will be serviceable for another year, Rinehart, Heyer, Dock should be fine. If we're able to get a high caliber LT, Samuels should be shopped after the pick. |

Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?
We have no choice BB but to keep JC regardless of what you think of him. He isn't perfect, but how many Qb's in the NFL are. Fact is we will probably lose Collins to retirement or just will let him go anyway. If we let JC go we will have to acquire 2 new QB's via draft or FA. Face it with Collins probably on the way out, you need someone with experience in the fold. The big question is will JC even want to stay? There might be a chance someone else will want him, like Oakland, etc. Portis is still a good back, just give him a solid line and his stats will improve. As long as the cap hit is a minimum(assuming if the cap does stay in 2010) I would release ARE for sure. Moss might be inconsistent, but he is still our only WR threat. I do not expect Kelly or Thomas to pan out in the near or distant future, so we need to draft another WR or two. It would be nice to see Zorn throw in Marko, just to evaluate him and see if he is really a gamer or not. Smoot has turned into almost a waste of space in my book. Can't believe how fast his skills have deteriorated in the past 5-6 seasons since we let him go to the Vikes. We need to discard a couple of our backup RBs as others have suggested in order to find Portis' eventual replacement. Betts isn't it for sure and Cartwright is just a special teams guy at best. I am surprised Randy Thomas doesn't just retire, but I agree with others that booting him for a draft pick would be advisable. Thing is if we are going to build a winner we need to focus more on the draft, keeping our high rounders. Thing is we have given them all away for these FA's that have underperformed for the $ we give them. I don't expect a winner anytime soon at Fedex.

Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?
Easy one:
1. Vinny Cerranto has got to go! Dude where did you learn to put together a team and coaches! This is awful, there's a long road to hoe to rebuild this team and clean up your mess... I would say Danny Synder (excuse me, Mr. Synder) but I don't think that he would let the team go unfortunately! Sell it Danny! Sell it PLEASE!!! 2. Zorny. Hmmm. There's a reason that you were QB coach for 10+ years in Seattle. Head coach is WAY over your head! that's all I have to say about that. Y'all no what's up. 3. Campbell - the last chance from me at the beginning of the year had officially expired at the end of the first half of the Tampa game last week. You'll be great somewhere, but not in DC. 4. Portis. Too many injuries way too much of a liability right now. We need some fresh feet to juk and dodge, but not to batter like he's been doing. |

Who would I get RID of for 2010:
Offense 1.Betts ( On the decline makes to much for a back up) 2.R.Thomas ( Injuires, age) 3.ARE (salary, limited production on PR) 4.Rabach (limited run blocker) Defense 1.Daniels ( age, limited edge rusher) 2.Griffin ( age, salary, injuires , production decline) 3.Smoot ( lost a step, salary, young DB's on roster) 4.Rogers ( contract year , if he wants to much don't over spend) Special Teams 1.Rock ( solid but limited on big returns, DT can replace) 2.Danny Smith? ( last time special teams return TD? Oh Moss vs Lions 2008) Quarter Back 1. JC (Needs to stay has upside, Draft class not to promising, free agents not better than JC) 2. Collins ( Take a pay cut or release) 3.Colt ( Show he can be a backup QB) |

I like this idea of cutting guys without taking penalties for thier contract because of the uncapped year. This would be heaven sent for several guys ARE, Portis, Andre Carter, Moss (id keep him, but his contract crazy), and Randy Thomas (he is gone away). If no penalty is the case, we would be crazy not to get rid of these guys for a fresh start. Look to the draft to build the team. We also need to resign Rocky and ill catch some heat for this but Carlos too to reasonable contracts. Anybody suggesting we cut Landry is crazy. |

No need to cut JC. His contract is up. He'll make a fine backup elsewhere. And none of the elite teams in the NFL would re-sign an aging RB with the wear and tear Portis has. Time to start doing as the better franchises do. New QB, new GM, new coach. |
Re: Who would you get rid of for 2010?
#1 Portis - and I hate saying that because I have been a very big supporter of him the past few years. I think he can still grind it and get 100 a game, but just for the simple fact that his act seems to be wearing thin in the locker room.
#2 Randel El - I really think he is just not needed. Overpaid #3 receiver. #3 Moss - I dont think he is a #1 receiver in this league. he never seems to get open on a regular basis. I look at Andre Johnson, Randy Moss, TO, Steve Smith all the #1's in the league and they always find a way to get 4 to 7 balls a game. We do NOT have a #1 on the roster. We haven't won with him there, so why keep trying. #4 Carter - were giving him big money and he hasn't been a consistant performer since getting here. another overpaid player that is average at best. He is suppose to be a rush end, he doesn't generate a lot of pressure and doesn't play the run very well, so really why keep him. #5 Griffin - has been a really good player for us for a number of years, but we need to get younger. Montgomery and Golston played well last year, give the job to one of them, or rotate them with Hayensworth. I am not saying Campbell - I think he has the ability to be an effective QB and win some games. If he were to ever get comfortable in a system and just be able to play on instinct instead of having to learn a new system every year or two i think he could be a very good QB. He has the arm, the mobility and the willingness to work hard, study and wants to be good. The determination he has shown to learn and be THE GUY is impressive to me. Those are the kinds of players I want on my team. I guess I should have put this at the top, but my #1 overall would be the combination of Snyder of Cerato, they would be gone if I had the ability to get people out |
So you guys want to basically fire everyone, cut everyone, trade everyone but will be bitching and complaining about how badly we suck again. Odd.
i think it depends on if you believe we are closer to success than failure. Personally, I don't think we're "one or two guys" away from being a contender. I think you need a certain culture to consistently win and we have some players that need to go in order for that to happen. To me, model franchises are Pats, Chargers, Eagles(just threw up in my mouth) and Steelers. What they have in common is that one player is never bigger than the team, they build wisely through the draft and they don't sentimentally hang on to players. It hasn't wo the Chargers or Eagles a superbowl, but they've been quality teams now for what, last 5-6 years? I'd take that over this clusterfuck any day. |

I doubt that happens. I'm sure JC is tired of all the BS that has gone on here and most likely thinks he's starting material. I'll bet he goes elswhere to start knowing the team wants to make him a backup. They might get away with it with a new HC saying the position is up for grabs and make him the back up. |
