God, I hope that something happens. At least it'll keep things interesting for the rest of the year.

Shanahan likley to be 'Skins next Coach
Just read this on foxsports....
NFL - - FOX Sports on MSN Hope it to be TRUE!!! (PS Sorry for another Shanahan thread) |
Re: Shanahan likley to be 'Skins next Coach
Maybe we should just start a thread called Shanahan Rumors and merge all the existing threads on him
|
Re: Shanahan likley to be 'Skins next Coach
That would probably be better than a new thread every time a detail emerges.
|
Re: Shanahan likley to be 'Skins next Coach
Unless Shanahan gets total control he is not coming to DC.
Anyone think that Snyder will give him total autonomy? |
Re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
If I remember correctly (feel free to correct me) he did with Marty. But we all know how that ended. Depends, he either is going to throw a lot of money his way or give him full control, hopefully the the latter rather than the former.

Re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Full autonomy to Mike Shanahan is like a bad organization finding a new way to be a bad organization, with all the transitional troubles that comes with.

Re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
I feel bad for Jim Zorn. Yes, he was in over his head, and he hasn't shown much as a game planner or play caller, but in all honesty, he's got NOTHING to work with here.
The players he has are pretty much crap. |
Re: Shanahan likley to be 'Skins next Coach
who was the gm in denver when shanny was coach.
Ted Sundquist had the title but Shanny was in charge. As Tripp points out, Shanahan is probably the likely choice but not the best choice. I worry that Snyder will sign someone like a Shanahan or Holmgren etc to be able to say "See, big time coaches do want to come here." But so what? Don't bring in a big name coach just to bring in a name coach. Do your research man. Shanahan should not have control over personnel. |
Re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Screw this stupid sh*t. I dont care if Bill Walsh, Lombardi, Shula, or any other hall of fame coach shows up here WE WILL NOT WIN IF VINNY AND DANNY BOY are running things here. We wont period. Look we had Gibbs here, it doesnt freakin matter if Shanahan or Cowher or anybody else, get rid of the FO manangement, its a joke...why even waste our time talking about this....

Eff all the big money that is thrown around. Snyder giving bigtime money to coaches is basically him buying his way to influencing the roster. Don't let Snyder comprise your coaching integrity with his checkbook. Any coach that comes to DC needs to be underpaid so he doesn't care about being fired after telling Snyder to get lost. Coaches who are well paid will have some concern over perserving their paychecks. Don't let the money play into any pending coaching equation. |

Re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
I don't think the problem is Vinny as much as Snyder. Is Snyder really going to hire someone and step back?
If Snyder ever want to win any more he had better hire a good coach and then step back, and let them coach and maybe the team might win some games. After today and I was at the game, Snyder has to be embarrassed for the way his dumb ass offense lost this game. D can't do it every game nor should they have to. I've said this before but the problems the skins have now is Synders fault. And these problems started years ago when he bought this team. He's hired the coachs, Vinney, the high price players etc. and we are getting no were. Bet we don't win more than 5 games this year, and this would be nothing more than a gift from God. |
Re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Come on now. Is Snyder really going after him and ready to throw away the season right now?
The season was over when we loss to the Lions! The rebuilding stage begins tonight. Sherman Lewis takes over playcalling. Zorn is simply the HC in name and not game planning. Sherman Smith is fired. Todd Collins is the Quarterback til Colt Brennan shows something in preseason. Throw screens til were blue in the face when the opponents are blitzing. Get Marko Mithchell, Anthony Aldrige and Todd Yoder in the game. |

I don't know what school of thought Zorn is from, but waiting a year to allow a rookie to play is old and archaic. Marko Mithcell needs to start this week against the Chiefs. Anthoy Alridge and Marcus Mason need to get some touches as well. Portis has lost several steps and its killing us. The OL is the only work in progress that leaves much to desire. |

I see. So Marko Mitchell and Anthony Alridge are the answers to our problems but Jim Zorn refuses to let them play. Right. Our players just aren't very good, and the front office has let the offensive line deteriorate. It's really that simple. |

Shanny had full control of coaching and personnel before and often sucked, especially when it came to personnel. We don't want him wearing both hats although he might insist. The scenario which brings in Marty Shott. as GM and Cowher as coach is more attractive to me. |
No. I am not kidding. We are the only team in the ENTIRE league that hasn't spent a 1st or 2nd round pick on the O-line since taking Samuels in 2000. NFC East football is won in the trenches. Compare our commitment to that of our division rivals on upgrading interior line depth through the draft. 'Nuff said.
Do you know the other difference ? The QB's. Come on now it isn't all on the O-Line. That dude DOES NOT call his own protections even though 2 different OC's have asked him to. Yes the O-Line does need to be addressed now that Thomas is gone and Heyer apparently isn't going to cut it but lets be just as critical of the guy who has control of the ball as well. But I guess he gets a pass. |

Vinny probably won't get fired. He'll either be moved out of football operations altogether or more likely just be kind of a lackey or front office coordinator. Yeah that's probably a good way of putting it. Front Office Coordinator. Sort of like Sherman Smith. He'll compile all the information, run the weekly meetings, but when it's game time his advice will be taken but he won't make the final decision. Basically he'll do what he did under Gibbs and what Scott Campbell is doing now. |
Someone will want to coach in DC. But, it would not surprise me if a few guys (even lower profile ones) turned us down. It's pretty sad that Spags turned us down and ended up accepting a job with the Rams.
yeah, and so far he's done an awesome job... |
Re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Unless we want a repeat of what the boys have done, we should hire an ASS KICKIN' GM......now and CHARGE him to handle the rest...all of it. That's what they do!

I'll take moving Vinny out of football operations. Of course, we also have to consider everyone else who aids in scouting for talent and making decisions on draft picks, free agent picks, etc. |
Re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Shanahan isn't the answer. That incredibe run in 96-98 was with Elway & TD. His last three years were 24-24.

Shanahan hasn't done jack without Elway and people forget the awful defenses he had and drafting guys like that loser RB from Ohio State. Is he not responsible for those things? Remember the defensive players he got from Cleveland? Yeah, that worked out real well. :frusty: |

Denver does have a pretty good oline though |
Re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Hhhmmm....so a question from far left field. Let's say that Jeff Fisher is let go after this season (and could be a strong possibility) would you want him coaching the Redskins? He has had some bad seasons, but he has taken the Titans to the Super Bowl before and has several appearances in the playoffs.
