Let us all agree that Cooley's blocking good or bad was the least thing that we had to worry about in this offense. |
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
I feel bad for Cooley--he's a good guy. But whatever. The season is in the toilet. Let's see what FD can do.

So much for Heyer being our best offensive player thus far I guess. |
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
So much for Heyer being our best offensive player thus far I guess.
Well, I mean, what's been done in the past is what it is. He's been our best lineman this year, which hardly guarantees his spot on next years team. Seriously. The only guy who is a good bet to be back is Dockery, and that's because he has a really good contract.
Our receivers are pathetic. Just horrendous. And the Quarterback situation has deteriorated every year since 2006. So with Cooley out, Heyer still might be the best guy on the field, especially if we put Todd Collins in at QB. That doesn't mean I forsee a pro bowl in his future, or even a contract. |
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Glad he's getting hurt during a lost cause for a season rather then a playoff run. Ironically this injury might extend his career. Still we're getting closer and closer to that 5th overall pick.

Right now we'd pick 8th, coming into a tougher part of the season. |
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
The season's lost. Let's IR cooley and and start Fred Davis and see what he can do. perhaps we can trade one of them for draft picks in the offseason.
|
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Cooley isn't a good blocker, but he's not terrible like Davis is. It's not just in the pass game, Davis has whiffed on some blocks in the run game. I think it's just another phase of his development, the coaches have said (according to RI) he isn't well versed in the playbook. That may be most of his problem; he's unprepared. He'll improve w/time I think.
|
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
If Cooley is to be out for the larger part of the season, if not the entire season, then this is probably the best season to be out for. The upside is that we will get to see more of what Fred Davis is all about, which is what we need to do. Davis needs to take advantage of this and play up to expectations. If he plays well the rest of the season (and learns how to block in the meantime) then having both him and Cooley healthy for next season could be a great thing for us! Kind of like a Clint Didier/Don Warren combo.

Zorn is now the Team Nurse? Better than playcaller, I guess. :D |

IR Cooley, activate Mitchell weekly with the open spot. |

I agree with this. Why not get Mitchell some playing time? What is it going to hurt at this point? |
I agree with this. Why not get Mitchell some playing time? What is it going to hurt at this point?
I agree. And I would actually sit Randel El and activate pretty much anyone else in his place. |
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Time for Fred Davis to step up and learn how to play in the NFL. This is a good thing for the kid. Let's face it guys, this offense sucs and the team isn't going anywhere. Cooley gets a year off and Davis gets to learn on the fly.
|
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Zorn just said that Cooley, at minimum, is out 6-8 weeks -- will likely be placed on IR because they can't leave a roster spot open that long. Said that they'll be looking for another tight end to help.
Maybe Ron Middleton can make a comeback. |
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Well, if it has to happen, let it be in a shitty year like this. Get well CC.
I agree. It would truly suck if we were 6-1 and lost Cooley but at 2-5 it is not as much of a blow. Let all the bad stuff that will happen occur this year. |
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Zorn is now the Team Nurse?
Better than playcaller, I guess. :D
Last person I want as a playcaller for my health is Zorn. "Doctor Zorn I think my left ankle is broken." "Ok, to fix that we'll have to operate on your right arm 3 times."
IR Cooley, activate Mitchell weekly with the open spot.
An injury to Cooley should not be the catalyst for getting Mitchell on the field. Mitchell should have been activated from day 1. It's funny Vinny actually makes a good draft pick and we have him dress in street clothes for the game. Part of me feels sorry for Zorn with the way he's being treated but when stuff like this happens I start to loose sympathy. |
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
This really isn't as big of a deal as it seems. Davis is more athletic and will do just fine. The line is our problem, not our tight end.
I know people are going to criticize Davis' blocking but Cooley can't block either. |
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
I know it is unlikely, but this could be good for the long run. Although it is not looking good now, but our 2nd rounders still might have potential to contribute. With Cooley out they will get more looks and more experience. I've pretty much scrapped this season, so as long as Cooley comes back strong as ever next year, I'm not devistated over this.
|
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
If cooley done for the year we will see if Davis was worth the pick in 2007! It maybe something that in the long run for Davis is good. We will now see what he can do!
Well at this point it might be a positve... I guess its a good opproutnity to look at Davis... thats not a knock on Cooley, he's def the best player on this offense, but were not going anywhere this year, we mine as well evaluate our young talent.
Gotta agree. I'll add, if we were actually in this race and not the race for the #1 overall draft pick, then I'd be MUCH more concerned about this. He's our best offensive weapon, but is that saying much on this dismal offense that could be the worst I have ever seen in Washington (or at least remember)...please someone correct me and tell me this isn't the worst offense we have seen. |
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
It looks official, unofficially:

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
So if we lose Cooley to IR, then we should be able to bring in a RB right? [/sarcasm]
|
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
this sucks so bad..he's the only one I had faith in on offense..big fred its your time to shine

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Update on Cooley from Twitter:
Adam_Schefter A foot specialist said TE Chris Cooley's fractured ankle is not as bad as initially thought. May play again in 4 weeks. |
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!! (update: maybe not)
Wow, quite different then ESPN's report.

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Serviceable sucks donkey. It is unacceptable!
We wouldn't have to rely on Cooley for his blocking if we had an offensive line that could hold their own :( |

I think Heyer could be a quality backup in the future, but as of right now he's not starting caliber. I'm still having nightmares about Cole beating him like a red headed stepchild. The only time he was stopping Cole was when he was taking him to the ground or giving him a chokehold lol. |

Cooley got a second opinion reportedly. Such a weird play to go back and look at. |
Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!! (update: maybe not)
Why risk it? Put him on IR and let it heal fully. He'll end up injuring again, while he's playing o-line.

I still don't see him coming back in 4 weeks after surgery. |
