Yes, the exit polling absolutely verified this wasn't a referendum on Obama. The party chair and every Republican talking head also said as much.

Democrats can't afford to ignore this, but it wasn't some kinda of message to Obama either. At least not yet. This had everything to do with Deeds and the type of campaign he ran.

This is why I find the Libertarian party appealing. Even though I know you warned me against jumping ship too fast because they are far to the right.

I'm definitely socially liberal (bearing arms, gay marriage, whatever. As long as you're not messing things up for me and getting in the way of what I wanna do, go for it.. is my motto) as for fiscally, I think I might sit on the fence.

There are some things (yes like "art") that I do like that gets funded, but other things like welfare is out of control and honestly, I think we're better off without it. I'm friends with people who are on welfare and they use that shit like a crutch. My close friend was considering applying for food stamps and I practically bitched her out. She works full time, goes to school full time and doesn't even live in state. She lives in an area with a lower cost of living than we do here. She didn't NEED them. Just wanted them so she could have extra money in her pocket at the end of the month. Pissed me the hell off. I bitched so hard, I talked her out of it.

But honestly, I'd rather have the government practically invisible than being Big Brother in my life.

I do not know of any politicians that want to end social programs . I do believe that most do not want massive welfare, paid for by hard working Americans . If liberals want something , why can't you work for it ? I always hear Liberals/progressive's saying how smart they are and how stupid Conservatives are . Yet , libs/prog's always say repub's have all the money and run all of our big business's ? I hear the left always crying " I worked 30 years and have nothing " . If libs are smart , why can't they run a business , how can a smart libs work 30 years and end up with "nothing " . Not one of my relatives or friends who are Repubs have money problems ? Let me see, the top 3 richest guys in America right now are liberal (Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Larry Ellison). Don't confuse corporate business interests and personal views of the person who owns such business. You really don't know who has money in this country and who doesn't. Drilling for oil got your vote. we could nerver compete on a teh World market wiht teh arabs no matter hiow much oil we find.

1. Oil is cheaper for them to produce at a higher quality.
2. They don't need for us to buy their oil to get our money. The Chinese will buy their oil with our money. India will buy their oil with the money they make form our jobs.
3. Our advantage over our enemies is technology. We need to use technology to win this battle.

I pointed out Charlotte because Mecklenburg county is the largest county in the state. So the significance of having an Obama supporter running the city can't be understated. It's not about electoral votes, per se, but keeping a solid infrastructure and ground game in place come 2012. It's a pretty big deal.

On the flip side, it will be more of an uphill battle in VA and NJ now that Republicans run the state, not to mention that we lost some electoral votes in both places.

The West invented oil production. Middle Eastern countries still use Western contractors to run many of their oil fields. You don't know if it would be cheaper for VA to produce oil since there hasn't been a discovery yet. For all we know there could be a large basin of light sweet crude on the continental shelf. You seem to forget that we buy most of our oil from Canada and Mexico, not the Saudis. How would it not be cheaper for Virginians to get oil off our own coast, than to ship it from the Mid-East or truck it in?

Yes, you do have a point with the dollar. There is a double edged sword to having the world flooded with US dollars. Our exports are cheaper. What we export besides our factories and jobs, I don't know? That is the theory though. You'll get no arguement from me about the weak dollar.

Technology will only get you so far. The US doesn't have the market locked up on intelligent people. The Russians have a better space program right now. Also, that technology does us no good if it's never used. High priced weapons platforms are a waste of tax dollars IMO. Why buy all of this fancy crap that we'll never use? IMO nothing beats the bayonet, fire, and the will to use them both on your enemies without mercy.

If he's here illegally (be it from Latin America or a Hezbollah training camp) it will be found out at that time. Our prisons are full of illegals already. You can also fine the hell out of contractors that use illegal labor. Those laws are [U]already[/U] on the books.

I've worked with many illegals in the construction industry. Don't sell the Mexicans short. They can live comfortably on next to nothing and don't need the "Gringo" to do so.

If you believe the laws are unjust, then work to change them.

Just because some people can't get by without someone cleaning their house, washing their clothes, taking out their trash, or growing their food, doesn't mean that others are too lazy to do so.

Actually after looking it up they do want to drill for both so I was wrong on that. If I'm correct they have allready lifted the ban on drilling now it just will Obama allow the drilling. I also think Obama is for allowing some drilling if its part of a package to cut down on the use of oil.

Bud, chill out with all the partisan crap. Nixon was the first to create the post of Energy Czar, Ronald Wilson Reagan had more than Nixon, and Bush I had more Czars in his cabinet than Obama does now. I hate to break the bad news to you but we're not going to turn into Russia and Obama didn't invent the word Czar. So give it a rest.
