Re: Our next coach??
We need a firey coach, one that when a drive fails, will yell like hell at the players and let them know that that wasn't acceptable. So the only coaches I can think of are:
Bill Cowher John Gruden Mike Shanahan The next thing with our head coach is that when I think of Redskins football I think of power running. So who has a power running game to their resume: Bill Cowher Mike Shanahan The next thing we need is a coach who doesn't mind giving up some of his GM duties, because Snyder will want to have a say in things: Mike Shanahan (Cowher wants full control of personel duties) Our next head coach should be, IMO, Mike Shanahan. |
Re: Our next coach??
My prayers will be answered if Dan Snyder does the right thing. Bring in a General Manager and let him build the organization from the top all the way down. The GM has the final say on who stays and who goes and Snyder backs his decisions. Every job is up grabs.
|
Re: Our next coach??
Do not hire a head coach, assistant coach, position coach or waterboy, until a General Manager is in place.

I absolutely agree, if we add the words Savvy or Competent in front of General Manager. Hopefully DS has learned from past mistakes and can make better choices this time. |
Re: Our next coach??
George Seifert hired as a team president to run the football operations, hire the GM and coaching staff.
coach ends up being shannahan. that would be great! |
Re: Our next coach??
To be honest i would like to see us either keep Zorn or at least get a HC that will stick around for 10 years or so. I dont want another old coach to come in for a year or too and then be back in the same boat as we are now. We need consistency in our coaching staff. I want a team that I can be proud of and that my kids can grow up to love just as I do not to be made fun of for supporting them
i was watching inside the nfl and the had mike lombardi on talking about coaches and gms and he said some thing interesting. he said that a coach like shanahan would be a nice draw because he is currently getting paid by the broncos so the team that picks him up wouldn't have to pay him as much.
thats not word for word but pretty much what was said, i thought if a new team hired him denver would be off the hook, is this not the case?
anyone? |
Re: Our next coach??
George Seifert........ really? This isnt the 90's...
Skins need a GM first, then have him pick a coach. |

You do know that Zorn is not that young, right? I believe he is in his 50s (56 to be exact). |
What about Holmgren, he is the most accomplished of the bunch aside from Parcells, who I believe is not available. He would also have most of his coaching staff in place so there would be less of a learning curve for the players.
I'm just not a big fan of his. Not saying he's not a good coach, but he did walk away from the game on bottom. 4-12 in his last season shows he wasn't really into it, especially when he called his retirement a year earlier. Let's not forget they took his GM duties away in Seattle, and I just don't think he has the desire to win it all anymore. He really had a great career when with Favre (.670%), and not so well with Hasselbeck (.538%) and he had some really good teams in Seattle. My biggest point is that I just don't think Holmgren has the desire to make us winners again. The others I pointed out, IMO, do. |

You certainly have a point, but considering Snyder isn't going anywhere, and his butt buddy Cerrato likely will still be around too, does this mean we just quit on bringing a qualified coaching staff in? We are all fairly certain Zorn is gone, so we should be getting a new coaching staff, but we do not know if our upper management will be here or not even though we can hope. Gotta still find the best, and HOPE Snyder / Cerrato suddenly have an epiphany. |
Re: Our next coach??
Dungy...absolutely. Gruden, certainly. Maybe even cowher...the rest can sit.
I'd say Billick > Cowher, but I agree that a list of coaches who have already won the SB means we are looking for a savior in all the wrong places.
There's no shortage of qualified up-and-comers who can do the job, you just need the structure to be better than what Zorn had to deal with. |

Dungy would politely decline, sounds like you don't know much of him as a person. |
Re: Our next coach??
Danny needs to realize he is not Steinbrenner, and buying a team does not work in the NFL. He needs to run as fast as his little legs will carry him and pucker up as he never has. Open up that fat 'ol wallet, which is what he does best. Then hire Charley Casserly back. Give him 3-4 years and we are back to stay.
New coach? New QB? High Draft Pick? They are all wasted with those who have absolutely no concept on who to choose and more importantly why. If Vinny remains, "Mr Snyder, Sir?" Danny, "Yes Vinny" Vinny "Jahri Evans from the Saints is the most expensive OL on the market, can I have him, please please please." Danny, "What about the other 4 lineman?" Re: Our next coach??
The more I watch Stanford play the more I like Jim Harbaugh. They've killed 2 top 10 rated teams in back to back weeks, this guy could be the next great coach and has lots of NFL experience having been a player. He could be coaching next door to his brother in Baltimore next year. I hope so.
|
Re: Our next coach??
Jim Harbaugh has done a great job at Stanford, and they won't be able (most likely) to keep him more than another year. But he seems to be eyeing a bigger college program

I like how they hung 55 on SC today.

I don't see how anyone could think that Zorn will be back for 2010. There's just no way possible he's still the head coach next year. |
Re: Our next coach??
At this point I only want a coach that has won a superbowl. No more offensive coordinators, college or QB coaches. The only exception I'll make is Russ Grimm.
If there's one guy Danny should throw money at is Harbaugh, this guy is for real. 51 pts against Oregon and 55 against USC. Why college instead of the pro's. |

He really likes the college game. That's not to say he won't go to the NFL if the right offer comes along. |

Grimm would be the exception because he was a member of the greatest offensive line ever assembled, which happens to be our greatest area of need. Also, it's no coincidence that he's been the o-line/assistant head coach for 2 different teams with superbowl appearances. He's one assistant that is way past due for a head coaching job. He would be a perfect fit in Washington. Where he coaches, the wins follow. |

Has he ever even been an offensive coordinator, has he called plays? Who's to say Grimm would be a good head coach? I've got no problem with taking someone who hasn't been head coach, but I don't want another staff brought here without anyone with experiencing calling plays on offense. So if we bring Grimm in as HC, I hope someone like Bratkowski comes along as OC |
Re: Our next coach??
Unless Harbough is using an NFL style of scheme I would not bring him in. We tried the College approach in Spurrier who was supposed to be the next best thing since sliced bread. His teams put up lots of points on the boards. He comes to the Skins and he fails. Perhaps not given enough time to establish his people for his style of play but clearly his system was easily figured out and defended. He goes back to the college ranks and does pretty good again.
In other words some people were meant to coach college players. As for Grimm, I do like him and most likely would be good for the O-lineman....but like Smootsmack I have issues with someone who has never called plays before. So if he's actually out in Arizona picking the next play and has an understanding of the offense he wants to run then I would hope he picks up the best OC to back him up. I just don't know if he's worth bringing in. I look at Grimm like I look at Buges. Someone who is good at his position but I don't think he would be a good HC. |

Exactly; people will say he's tough and fix the o-line and all.. but you need more than that from an HC he's been with the Steelers and the Cardinals.. neither one of them have a good o-line so I guess bugel should get a spot somewhere too? |

Marty or Gruden. :)
I would say Cowher but i think he ends up in Carolina. |

Bummer, I seriously think this guy will be the next great coach. His father was a coach, former NFL player, has great enthusiasm, etc. I would throw gobs of money at him, maybe he can add a release clause. |

No. For offensive coordinator. Seriously, he knows the game better than anyone and has the leadership and work ethic to be a GREAT coach. |
Would you not love to take a run at Peyton Manning for QB coach when he retires?
I don't know, I was coming back here to ask you all what you all thought of Tom Moore, the SR. OC of the Colts possibly being our next HC? I have not heard anyone mention him and as "prolific" as the Colts offense has been since 99 he might be able to do something with giving us a high scoring offense. He has 32yrs in the league and 22 as an OC, 12 yrs with the Colts. Maybe get Polian's son as GM and have Tom Moore as HC? I guess P.Manning would work out well as QB coach......maybe. He would be able to teach the offense to whoever we brought in as QB. |
Re: Our next coach??
^ I was looking at Tom Moore's bio on the Colts site and thought they had him listed as 42yrs old even though he looked older. Then after Googling him I see he's like 70yrs old. Maybe he could bring in one of his Assistants that knows the offense to take over after 4-5 yrs perhaps when he retires. That way he can help establish a decent offense here and help train a future HC for continuity?

Re: Our next coach??
With 11 quarterbacks on a pace to pass for more than 4,000 yards, it's pretty clear that the passing game has become more important than a running offense. Sure, it helps to have the balance of the New Orleans Saints, who have Drew Brees' passing backed by the No. 5 running offense. But the rules encourage passing, and to win consistently, teams need a quarterback who can throw for 225 to 250 yards a week and put up at least 22 points. For what it's worth, none of the top four rushing teams have winning records.
Saw this on ESPN,how/or does this effect your list of HC candidates? |
