Heck yeah! I season is essentially over. Give him all the carries he can handle and all the time he can handle in the back field blocking. JC aint staying so who cares if he gets run over by rushers. |
Re: Per Adam Schefter: Betts torn ACL & MCL
I feel like a lot of Betts career here was wasted because of Snyders love for Portis. I'm 100% sure we could have won at least as many championships with Betts starting as we have with Portis. And we could have done it with more cap space (to sign other players) and less BS.

Re: Per Adam Schefter: Betts torn ACL & MCL
Rinehart and FB Eddie Williams are also going on IR.

Are we eligible for "disaster aid" from the goverment? |
Re: Per Adam Schefter: Betts torn ACL & MCL
So we need another:
OL RB FB anything else? |
Horrible luck.
If Rock doesn't fumble, I'm confident in him being our starter until Portis can come back, but he's already ruled out for Week 12. Ganther hasn't impressed me. If we lose Rock also, we should use ARE and DT in the backfield and go Wildcat on any plays we're not throwing in a 4WR set. What else COULD we do? Run with Sellers 15 times? At least Marko should definitely be on the active roster with only 2 active RBs.
I wouldn't mind seeing Davis come out of the backfield some, maybe not being an up the gut runner, but more of a hybrid type of guy. I think that I've read that he's done some stuff in that regard. |

Does this mean that the offer has been given or just that it's inevitable? |

It will be very shortly, if it hasn't been already

They kept showing the sidlines yesterday and it depressed me. Seeing Cooley, Thomas, Samuels, Portis and knowing Betts was done was a serious gut punch. It is an absolute miracle...straight from god I swear...that Campbell isn't out for the year considering how bad our line and our luck is. |

Pretty much true, and imagine if the coaches listened to some fans and put Collins in.. Collins would be out of career due to conscious, probably.. |

It has been high on drama, but doesn't seem nearly as miserable as the latter half of the ole ball coach's team in 03. That team was absolutely painful to watch, at least this team is fighting its guts out! |
Re: Per Adam Schefter: Betts torn ACL & MCL
It's not a big deal anymore. There were a lot of us who knew what was coming when we: A) Signed Haynesworth B) Signed Dockery C) Signed no O-linemen in the draft.
I didn't expect us to stink this bad though. I was hoping that we'd finish 10-6 but thought 9-7 was more realistic. After the first game I could see that we regressed. If we can't hang with the Giants then the season might as well be over. This was the year to do it too! The NFC stinks. Any good football team can walk the dog on any of the NFC East teams. So why get all depressed? This has been over for a while now. Eff it! There is no use in investing any more time or passion in this team. Watching a game is enough. If you'd rather wash your car or rake leaves, I can understand that. |

I started to follow Redskins in 2004, so I'm not really aware of anything before that, beside the people's comments.. |
Re: Per Adam Schefter: Betts torn ACL & MCL
Well this can turn into a positive if we start seeing some serious contributions from the likes of Tryon, Thomas, Kelly, Davis, Edwin Williams, Kareem Moore, Jeremy Jarmon, Marcus Mason etc. Maybe something to build off of

they all have looked good so far, we just need to get the ball into kelly and thomas's hands cause when they get it they are starting to make plays i'm really interested in seeing mason next week, since portis is out it's gonna be rock, mason, ganther i would think. hopefully mason will get double digit carries |
Re: Per Adam Schefter: Betts torn ACL & MCL
I really wish they'd play Barnes. I don't understand why we don't.

becuase he isn't that good, the only reason we didn't cut him was because we drafted him so high |

Really, cut any rookie if they are not starting caliber right away? Ever heard of player development? |

yes i have, but we wasted that pick, barnes would have been there in later rounds imo. i just don't think he is that good and we could have used all those picks a lot wiser in my mind. barnes, glenn, hensen, williams and mitchell, i like mitchell i think he was a late round find as for the rest all wasted picks when we could have drafted lineman, what have any of them done so far, nothing usually they will have a glimmer in the preseason barnes looked like crap most of the preseason and the only reason anyone knows hensen's name is cause he ran his mouth off |

Justin Tryon looked like crap last year...so did Rhinehart, and they've developed. If this team is committed to building the lines, they need to pick up a lineman in the first round. I know that we've had the debates about Orakpo vs. Oher, but that would have been your opportunity to pick up a lineman. But they didn't...and for some reason they went defense for most of the draft. |
Re: Per Adam Schefter: Betts torn ACL & MCL
Barnes needs greater patience in terms of development. Once we are mathematically eliminated, he might see some time on the field. Let's see what happens then.

Re: Per Adam Schefter: Betts torn ACL & MCL
I still think if we don't bring back Rogers, Barnes will be starting opposite Hall next year

where does smoot fall in? |
Re: Per Adam Schefter: Betts torn ACL & MCL
where does smoot fall in?
Where he is now, dropped down below Tryon or gone. I think he's here for one more year. I think Rogers goes (they tried to trade him and Moss last year and I think they will trade at least one this year-assuming an uncapped year). Hall and Barnes start. Tryon is the nickel, and Smoot is the dime. |
Re: Per Adam Schefter: Betts torn ACL & MCL
Betts was a good Redskins, and I always hated that Gibbs signed TJ Duckett when they needed a reserve running back before they even looked to see what Betts could do for them. Or Rock Cartwright for that matter. Some of today's problems the Skins are having are directly related to some of the trades and free agent signings Gibbs made. Portis has been one of the worst since he creates so much division on the team.
|
Re: Per Adam Schefter: Betts torn ACL & MCL
I thought the Duckett deal was highly questionable as well. But Betts was a problem, as were many other players, under Spurrier. He wasn't a professional in terms of showing up on time to practice, paying attention at meetings, staying late. Portis was picked only a few slots ahead of Betts and some say that's just a testament to poor drafting by the Redskins, and smart drafting by the Broncos. But Betts also didn't have the work ethic his first few years in the NFL. And I'm a Hawkeyes fan so I've always pulled for him, but he definitely put some of his issues on himself.

You're a Hawkeyes fan? What did you think of Kirk Ferentz and his decision to let the game clock run out for the final minute against Ohio State? If I were an Iowa fan, I'd have been irate. |

I was already kind of pissed going into that game with them having lost to Northwestern the week before, and then Stanzi being out for the OSU game. |
Re: Per Adam Schefter: Betts torn ACL & MCL
I'll be really surprised if a new coaching staff, which has no allegiance or time invested in Betts, would bring back a 31 year old career backup coming off a major knee reconstruction. Especially with Portis, Rock and Mason presumably being here at the end of the season.

And if we drafted a bunch of linemen who were either inactive or sucked, would those be wasted picks as well? Just drafting a whole bunch of linemen doesn't improve the OL. |
