Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
Suisham has had bad kick off years in the past, but this year, his kickoffs were one of the only bright spots on our special teams. Of course, if Gano can boot it (and if he can, I'm not sure why he wasn't in the league already), that might continue.

Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
I am starting to wonder is Gano does shitty down the line are we going to nickname him Guano?
|
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
18 of 21 on the year is pretty damn good, however the 3 misses were killer, I understand that. The timing is just odd. The team is going nowhere, why not cut him after the season? Maybe this Gano kid is a find... but I have a feeling we can add kicker to the offseason wish list. It just feels like a scapegoat kind of move is all.

exactly we have had problems with shushi for a while always have competitions in the offseason he wins, but then during games his kickoffs are dreadful and he misses clutch kick i think getting a new guy in there to see what he can do in real games lis a good move, theres nothing saying this guy will be the answer but give him a shot and see what he has. we really have nothing to lose |
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
it had to be done. kinda like the end of old yeller. except in our case we've been wanting to shoot the fucking dog for 3 weeks and will be celebrating at the local watering hole after the deed is done.

Like that safety that got burned not once but twice for TDs...but you can't get rid of someone you pay all that money for. Seriously though, #30 needs to pick it up and quit throwing himself around recklessly and biting on every double move. |
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
While everyone here is bashing Suisham and glorifying Gano, might I take just a moment to point out that another perennial whipping boy for folks around here had this one right before anyone here saw it coming.
ProFootball Talk had Gano coming in for a workout and some folks did the typical kneejerk to that report and scoffed that PFT would ever get anything right. OK, back to the Suisham bashing and the canonization of St Graham of Gano ... |
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
Interesting...Suisham actually has the highest percentage of FG's in Redskins history with a minimum of 100 kicks at 80%. 2nd? Chip Lohmiller at 71.4%.

Look at his accuracy on longer kicks and how many game-losing chokes he's had...not to forget about kickoffs out of bounds. I was also shocked to hear this, but with the way the offense has been taking it inside the red zone to settle for FGs, it's no surprise that he is making so many, they're all chip shots. Look at this year: 8/9 from 0-29 yards 5/6 from 30-39 5/5 from 40-49 0/1 from 50+ Last year: 7/7 from 0-29 yards 7/9 from 30-39 11/16 from 40-49 1/4 from 50+ ^That's a lot of misses and 1/5 on long FGs in the last 2 years. There were a lot of instances where we knew he couldn't hit a long FG so we gave up all points and punted. |
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
missing that field goal in dallas to make it a 2 possession game was costly. i dont really blame suisham for that b/c i thought it was out of his range to begin with but that, in and of itself, is an indictment against him.
the miss this sunday was just plain bad. add that to the week prior and i dont really see any reason to keep him onboard. honestly, what are we going to miss? he cant make field goals over 50 yds and he misses the makeable kicks and the most inopportune times. plus he kicked the ball out of bounds at least twice this year and is inconsistent with his kickoffs after the first few games of every season. go skins!
He missed two in the Dallas game one like 39 yards and the other like 49. The announcers said he was nailing kick from 60 yards in warm up but I guess that did not roll over into the game. I think if he had made just one of the 3 hi missed he would still be a Skin. |

It would have to be the Saints kick then, missing a 22 yarder is inexcusable whether the game is on the line or not. He didn't just miss...it wasn't even close. |
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
Well deserved Suisham! You earned it buddy.
|
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
Maybe Hall should of been released at Carolina when he could not stopped a slow QB from making a first down. Or the other DBs that get burnt by fifty yards.
|
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
the redskins gave Suisham more than enough opportunities to succeed and he didnt. Football is just not his game

Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
Gano? Is he batshit crazy?
(yes, i know how it's spelled...) |
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
Based on his earlier defense of Suisham, it appears that Jim Zorn either has no integrity or no influence over the roster. I think he has integrity, so this may be yet another example of Zorn's diminished authority.
Does Vinny even inform Zorn about the roster moves he's considering? It has amazed me to see the lack of respect for Zorn shown by Vinny this season. Whether or not replacing Suisham was the right move, it's clear to me that Vinny has no compunction about embarassing Jim Zorn. That is unprofessional and unkind. |

He also said that Suisham wouldn't empty out his locker on Monday, he didn't say the same for Tuesday. I think Zorn tries to hide his cards as awkwardly as JC tries to slide. This shouldn't be construed as a defense of VC, as I hope he goes, but more a defense of Zorn's integrity on the question of Suisham |

What's your point? Hall has been a playmaker for us. Suisham has a long history of sucking. |
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
No one should be surprised, that shank cost us the game and any chance to beat a great opponent (an 11-0 team). If Gano is an upgrade, we might not have to adreess the K issue this offseason, unless a big time FA hits the market

Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
just curious, when will we know exactly for sure if next year is going to be uncapped?

Bring back Durant Brooks and make him the PK :D

If I recall correctly, DeAngelo Hall joined the Skins in Game 9 last year. Down the stretch, the Skins went 2-6 last year. This year with Hall on the roster, the Skins are 3-9. My math says that "Playmaker Hall" has been here for and contributed his playmaking skills to a record of 5-15. I hope the HoF voters have made a note of that for future reference... |
By that standard, every kicker in the league should be cut. I wanted to beat Suisham with a 2x4 on Sunday, but he was kicked the ball through the uprights on 85% of his field goal attempts. He missed two big attempts, but this move strikes me as a knee-jerk reaction based more on emotion than reason. I think we will regret releasing Suisham.
I've compromised enough with respect to Suisham abilities the past few season. I have been resigned to the fact that he can't kick anything beyond 40 yards consistently but I can't excuse this miss, especially since it was from 23 yards, the game was on the line and there was no muffed snap/hold. My standards are already low when it comes to the Skins' kicking game and I shan't lower it any further. Is the move reactionary? Sure, but at this point there is no reason to wait. |

Suisham:$1,000,010.00..at 62,500 a game? I can think of a couple of game checks he should not have been allowed to collect |

18 for 21...85.5% nuff said. |
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
I'm a big FSU fan and Gano was a beast there. He is way better on kickoffs than Suisham, he has a very strong leg, and he was very accurate at FSU. It does concern me, however, that he couldn't make it through camp with the Ravens. Hopefully, he works out.

not really, you have to look at the distance and game situation if he was 18 for 21 and his missed were all over 35yds thats one thing, but thats not the case. one was in a dome to put the game away should been made, the other basically a pat again to put the game away |

I agree with SGG it was a kneejerk reaction to the miss on Sunday. That's the way we do things around here "kneejerk." It's not the frst time and it won't be the last. The Giants are looking for a kicker maybe they'll sign him and he'll come back to haunt them. Suisham will get a job, so we don't need to feel sorry for him. |
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
Kneejerk reaction?
He was lousy last year and was lucky to still have a job. |
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
kneejerk would have been cutting him after the miss in Seattle in the playoffs, or cutting him after the miss in Dallas last year, or even after the two misses against Dallas this year. Now it's just time
|
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
I would have left him in Seattle...I believe without a doubt that the Redskins were winning that game if he had made that kick. It took all the wind out of their sails and fired up the Seahawks. I consider it possibly the most important missed field goal in my 34 years of watching the Redskins.

I agree completley, it might just be my burgandy goggles, but I think if he makes that kick against Seattle, its our game. Its thinking back to that kick that has always spurred my hatred for Suisham.. then he just added onto it over and over with big misses. |
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
Laron Landry should be cut too, he got burned on two double moves for TD's in the game.

A kicker lives and dies by his clutch kicks or lack there of. Starting defensive players do not get cut for a blown coverage. It is just two completely different situations. |

The kicker is cast in the correct position for his skills.........Landry is not. That is a coaching thing |
Re: Suisham released, Gano new kicker
I wish Swishy well. He was not the best but he was not the worst, either. May he fare well in the future.
