Nah, no one listens to TheMalcolmConnect. |

PS If the Skins come out and hire Shanahan over the weekend, I'll eat my words, apologize to you guys, and let you say I told ya so 1000 times over.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
But if it's already a done deal, this would be a clear violation of the rooney rule.:cool-smil
All of a sudden the news has gotten awfully quiet....The team is adamantly denying the Shanahan talk, but we know that means nothing.....
That's just out of respect (what little they have left) for Jim Zorn. It would be totally out of character for a team to anounce a new coach with one already in their employ with a year left on his contract. |
Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
This isn't true my boner went down............damn!!!

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
I'm betting it's true but out of respect for Zorn the FO is waiting until the season's over to announce this.

y r people getting their hopes up...this is classic Snyder, bring in a big name coach and the team ends up going 6-10...Norv Turner, Schottenheimer, Spurrier a ringin' a bell? Let's rein in the optimism...when snyder stops pulling this s***, then Ill have hope

In the pit of my stomach, I have the same exact feeling, but I am learning not go with my gut anymore (SEE: my ridiculous screen name). Besides, by going with the OPPOSITE of what my gut is suggesting, I can at least still claim that my gut is some sort of compass for the team's success . . . . . . it's just off by about 180 degrees. If Zorn is replaced before the end of the season, I will lose a lot of the goodwill towards the front office that was built over the last 48 hours. The team is playing well; let the guy finish out the season with some dignity. |

Totally different Vinny is not here that's big difference IMO. |

I wonder if they talked to Sherm and he said no he didnt want the HC job. and will use that in the Rooney Rule..

To a certain extent I have to agree. I saw an earlier post saying we will win the division for sure next year. I think we have to take it slowly and not get too crazy. It is REALLY GREAT that Vinny bag of doughnuts is gone. It takes time to build a solid team and deep team. It will not be in one year. |

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Here's the scoop from SS who texted me:
-Shanahan was not in DC today -Terms of a deal have been in place for a while now, the holdup was he didn't want Vinny in a decision making role, he doesn't want to take over during the season, and he wants to wait until after the Texans season is over to bring his son Kyle with him. -He's also waiting to see what will happen with Dallas, but his focus has shifted to the Skins now. -Skins are also interested in bringing in Doug Williams but it probably wouldn't happen until March, if it does at all. DW might not be as interested as the Skins though, thinks he may have more upside with Tampa. |

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
if the skins do get shanny does that help or hurt clintons chances of remaining on the team? under shanny clinton was awesome but he was also traded away by shanny.

Lol, wouldn't it be crazy though if they brought back Spurrier? Ironically though a few things need to come to fruition to make this official. First the Texans need to loose their next game to knock them out of the playoffs, that way his son Kyle can be brought in as the OC/Assistant Head Coach. On top of that, as sick as it is, the Cowboys need to be the playoffs, at least for this deal to be on the safe side. I still feel like the Redskins will get Shannahan even if Dallas doesn't make the playoffs, but at the same time it would be a slam dunk for us in terms of getting Shannahan if they did. |

Are you implying that the Redskins should loose to Dallas to prolong their season and the Redskins jump on Shanahan? That would be pretty entertaining. |

I actually liked Zorn but it seems to me that Snyder is willing to put his ego in check to some degree by bringing Shan in.

i have a bad feeling this whole thing falls through and shanahan winds up in dallas and we're forced to hire another zorn-esque coach.

Hmm...I think this one is a wrap for the Skins. They just didn't start talking last week. I think the only way Shanny ends up in Dallas if: a) The bottom continues to fall out through December in a major way. b) Jerry Jones offers Shanny more than Snyder is willing to pay, which we both know will be hard. Also, somoneone here pointed out that Jerry has too much money tied up in that stadium to go too far out on limb. c) Jerry gives him the type of personnel control he's looking for. |

SS mentioned that Jones isn't too keen on Kyle and one of Mike's big sticking points is having control over his staff. |
Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
By the way, here is a direct quote from Chris Mortenson when asked if he texted Mike Shanahan to see what was up. (Reported on Atlanta 680 Sports Talk)
"No, because there is no need to text him. I know that he will be the next coach of the Washington Redskins. Bruce Allen is the guy that Shanahan wanted and the Redskins went out and signed Allen because it was part of the deal.He will be announced as the Redskins coach at seasons end". Hmmmm, could National Football Post and our source be right? |

Ha ha, no no, we're just talking. Though it would be kind of ironic. Still, as I said before (not that I'm an insider like Smootsmack), I feel like the Redskins have a lock on Shannahan. As others have stated, they have his personnel guy, they have a defense, he can bring his kid in as the Assistant Head Coach/OC. I think the more vital component is having the Texans loose and miss the paloffs. Also on a side note if Shannahan not wanting to work with Vinny helped lead to his dismissal then we should be welcoming him with open arms. |
Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Tells me two things
1. NFP and ESPN and others reporting this have a ton of credibility on the line. 2. What are the thoughts of theWarpath? Is this fair to Jim Zorn or is it just part of the business. Discuss it. Great topic. |

Here's how you get around the "Rooney Rule" -- Step 1. Call up Tony Dungy. Step 2. Ask Tony if he wants the job. Step 3. Wait for Tony to say "No." Step 4. Hire the coach you wanted all along. Bingo. Rooney rule followed. |

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
I agree. Do I think there is truth to the Shanny deal? Absolutely. Do I think it should be kept under wraps and Zorn finisih the season? yes. Changing coaches at 4-9 with 3 games left makes absolutely no sense.
Lets remember, Jerry Jones has great respect and admiration for Shanny. Snyder wants this deal done before Wade Phillips is ousted. I absolutely 100% believe a deal with Shanahan is done. But please wait.
I think its great, it lets the new coach see the players for 3 games and evaluate who really wants to be here next year. I'm tired of how our usual starter attitude has been recently, where you just show up, do your own thing, and get paid regardless. |

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Chris Mortensen on ESPN Pro Football Blitz Just said that "Bruce Allen was Mike Shanahans guy so Shanahans going to end up being the Redskins Head Coach, you can put that one in the book". He was asked why Gruden would not be the next coach because of his relationship with Allen and Chris answered, "It ant happening, Mike Shanahan is going to be the Redskins head coach".
Sounds pretty official to me. |
