there are too many variables to just cut several people for the sake of cutting them... that is, an evaluation needs to be done of the coaches coming in and who will fit their system, especially defensively...

regardless, portis and ARE must go... especially if it's uncapped...

cut doughty and let horton and landry fight it out to start at SS...

rabach, daniels, wynn (though he's not started), cartwright, griffin, sellers

move thomas to X, marko to Y, moss to Z...

these are the moves i would make no matter who is coming in to coach...

jones, kelly, mike williams, rocky, betts, ganther, will montgomery, rodgers would need to be evaluated by the new staff for aditional cuts as far as starters go...

10 starters is a sh*t ton....I like Heyer and Reinhart for depth, but these guys are not starters in this league...Ive would have included Samuels, but given the fact he is our best player in the last decade, give him the chance to take retirement. Smoot, huh? He's not what he once was, but I like what he brings to the game. Doesn't make the mental errors that seems to plague the rest of the secondary. And besides, teams need fiery veterans. I'd keep Smoot over a lot of other guys.

Regardless, after last night's pathetic showing, I'd like to see the Skins make 53 cuts.

Just looking at the roster real quick...

Portis - On the downward trek of his career
Randy Thomas - Old. Season ending injuries .every. season
ARE - Good for nothing except losing yards on punts
Rogers - Has pretty much said he wants out
Smoot - Another old guy not doing much of anything
Daniels - Ridiculously old. Can we not find a younger, fast dude to put his hand in the dirt? *cough*Orakpo*cough*
Wynn - Another old guy not getting much (if any) playing time
Heyer - He's so bad on the line, it's scary.
Mason - Expendable
Landry - I'd love to trade. He's great closing in on the line but if there's a deep pass going on, expect him to get made a fool of each and every time.

1) Phillip Daniels- thanks for your contributions but a man named Orakpo would like to put his hand in the dirt for 3 downs now.
2) Clinton Portis- great player really, one of my favorite redskins. slowing down is too obvious though.
3) Fred Smoot- seems almost Afraid to tackle opponents and seems to celebrate over the smallest/easiest/insignificant tackles. all in all old and needs to go.
4) Reed Doughty- great leader. needs more of a Cartwright role where he pumps up the team then stays on the sideline. would like to see another dominating safety out there. only pains me to think "what if..." S. Taylor was back there still...
5) Antwan Randle El- Haven't really seen any reason to keep him other than his name and the hype that comes with it?
6) Marko Mitchell- WHAT HAS HE DONE??? WHY are people SO obsessed with him when he has done NOTING for this team? i just don't see how fans can be so supportive of someone who has little to prove themselves of.
7) Casey Rabach- too old. seems to be when Campbells sacked he missed a block somewhere or another...
8) Chris Samuels- LOVE that guy. prob the best Olinemen the Skins have seen for a LONG time BUT, for his own safety get out of the NFL and enjoy a long life or retirement and some well deserved R&R.
9)Renaldo Wynn- honestly how long can a single player last in the NFL with such lack of production?
10) Cornelius Griffen- huge playmaker in his Hayday but seems to be slowing down with age. imagine a YOUNG defensive tackle that came into the system and LEARNED from the best DT in the league (Haynseworth)?? a player like Suh from Nebraska with his god given talent Building on top of that with expertise learned from Big 92 is just scary. would almost guarantee the best defensive line for years to come.

I dont want to turn this thread into something its not, but Zorn does NOT deserve the blame for this team being a failure. He was not dealt a great hand in this mess of an organization. Over aged, injury prone roster with no depth at all. I dont care who is behind center or at running back, with the oline that we have had all season, Johnny Unitas wouldn't have been able to do a damn thing, Peyton, Brady, Farve no one. So lets not put all the blame on him. Vinny (thank god he's gone) and Danny built this team the last ten years and haven't taken but 1 Olineman in the top two rounds the last 10 years.

I disagree, he did nothing with his opportunity here and proved over and over again that he is not a head coach. I think he was calling a lot of the plays last night. I have no evidence but his fingerprints were all over those first half possessions. He was hired to run the offense and his offense was pathetic.

A team that has many components (including an offensive line) who needs a game manager. Or a team with a shaky starting QB that needs a solid back up.

I'm still blown out of my mind that people think Portis would generate any kind of favorable draft pick. I'm serious guys, i really believe that he would only get us a 4th round or 3rd round pick. And it's not just his physical condition/injury risk that would warn off teams...its his attitude too.

I would trade Portis for a 3rd rounder in a flash. Unfortunately, we may need to keep him since he appears to be the only RB who can pass block...but I would hope that the new FO would take care of the line in the offseason.

Exactly the reason why he needs to go. And while it may not make sense to some, I think Portis is a symbol (not the only one) of the dysfunction that has happened with this team. Every time there's talk of getting a new RB, analysts are always like "what would Portis think of this?" or "Portis is not going to like this." And it shouldn't be this way. I think this team needs to take a page from other teams who have parted with their aging RB (Baltimore and J. Lewis, Colts and Edge, Giants with Tiki, etc., etc.) and just part ways with Portis.

I am floored at all the Rock hate.

He shouldn't be a return man. We saw that last night when he couldn't outrun an LB in the open field. But he has crazy heart and is an animal on ST (not the return aspect, buit all others) and is not a bad 3rd string back or blocking back.

No one is giving us a ham sandwich for Portis, Cooley or Landry. They have stupid contracts and no one is going to take them on.

The guys that could get traded would be Campbell and Rogers and we might get a 6th and 7th rounder for each.

Just like our coaches, people need to pull their head out of their asses.

4-8 - The entire O-line -- with Samuels going out gracefully in retirement
9-Betts - I think he had potential, but I don't think we will ever know now.
10- Not that I want it, but I wouldn't be sad to see Moss go.

Second, you underestimate the value of our players and the stupidity of some NFL personnel folks (Lions, Browns, Raiders, etc.). Third, in an uncapped season dumping bad contracts in some sort of sign and trade is a possibility, even if the compensation is for 4th and lower round picks.

- Portis - some team looking for help at RB with a solid OL would be interested in him for a 1 or 2 year deal.
- Cooley - Pro Bowl TE, he has value.
- Landry - Has physical tools, upstairs seems pretty vacant but some defensive HC will look at him and blame his poor performance on the Skins poor coaching/organization and think they can make a superstar out of him.
- Campbell - as others have said he could be a solid backup or game manager, certainly worth more than a 6th rounder.
- Rogers - meh, if I can't get value keep him next year for depth.

and about pulling heads out of hind-quarters....think before you post.
