Re: Add a Veteran WR?
Hopefully ARE and Moss get traded cause they need to go.
If they have any trade value. Moss will get you more, but not much. I would be happy with a third rounder but don't think its likely. ARE might get us another vendor for the bathroom and a window washer. He did look like he was washing windows everytime he went back for a punt. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
I do not want to see any moves made with the WR position other than internally. Our WR corps is fine and can be great.
Devin Thomas comes back healthy next year and needs to be the Starting Z, based on his performce late in the season I think that he earned it. Malcolm Kelly I believe should be ready to step into the X position if he can continue to do what he did last week. I have a feeling that Moss can be the best slot reciever in the league (better than Welker) we just need to put him there and get more production from 1 of the other 2. Many people do not like ARE because he is not a good return man. Like it or not he has some of the most reliable hands in the league. Look at the stats in the "Are we over rating our players?" thread. His agility also make him another legitimate threats out of the slot when we are 4 wide. Marko Mitchell is a nice prospect and provides depth at the X position if nothing else. On top of all of that we have two very good TE's. There is no need to give up anything to fix what isn't broke, especially if in the process it hinders our depth at another position. Where would the team have been when Cooley got injured if we didn't have Davis? I wouldn't want to imagine. Disclaimer: The positions listed above may not be the positions that players are currently listed at, they are the positions they should be playing based on size and skill set. |

That's what I'm talking about!! I want five of the brightest, strongest, athletic and most disciplined players I can possibly find across my front, and five more to back them up if possible. On the defensive front they don't necessarily have to be smart, just give me eight guys for a rotation that on Sunday's will for four quarters hit somebody in the mouth and dare them to say anything. DB's who when the ball is in the air, have the attitude that it belongs to them. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
I agree with Angry for the most part here, but...
I don't like ARE because he can't do anything after a catch other than fall down. If he is our #4WR he is way overpaid and needs to be shown the door. |
Nope..move Kelly and Thomas to 1/2 and drop Moss to the slot. That immediately better use of their talents.
great idea. and Moss has been in the league 8 years. doesn't that make him a veteran? |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
Maybe if we're talking a number 4 or number 5 receiver as somewhat as an afterthought (or if we get rid of ARE or Moss or something).

I get what you guys are saying, but it doesn't necessarily mean that we'll be ignoring other spots. I wouldn't draft a WR or trade for one... FA or something, sure. That doesn't take anything away from OL or QB. I'd like to see Thomas and Kelly have the 1/2 put on their shoulders, Moss in the slot, Mitchell getting some love at 4, and ARE in another uniform. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
The only guy I'd want is Marshall. Kelly had one good game the whole year. And the one good game he had was against back ups. Marshall makes everyone on the field better. If he's avialable we need to try and get him.

You mean "if he's not benched for a bad attitude"? And again, Shanny and Marshall had a fallout in Denver. It is unlikely that Shanny wants to repeat that experience. |
So far today we're talking about adding a veteran WR and trading Cooley for Marshall. I feel like we've already forgotten about the 2009 season. Offensive line anyone?
Thank you for keeping folks on the track, Matty. The WRs are not great but they are not the weakest link on the offense by a LONG shot... |

Kelly was really only given the opportunity to have one good game. In typical fashion it took an injury to let a guy shine. Sure he won't have that same game every week, but if you've been watching Kelly you know a bit of what he can bring, but when he only gets 2 balls his way, that's what happens. One of my biggest Kelly highlights is his out of bounds "catch" that he had a couple of weeks ago. It really showed what he could do. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
We've just finished witnessing one of the most horrendous season in team history. Everyone, everywhere have on more than one occasion identified what this team's basic need is. When that is addressed "first" I'd be more than willing to discuss players at any other position. Until then, my thought process is like Mike Ditka's was when he traded the Saints entire draft for Ricky Williams, we need to be thinking O-line, O-line and more O-line. Until the issue is resolved nothing else matters. Skilled players are rendered moot without an O-line. O-line anybody!!
Thank you...well said....now i dont have to post since you handled it. Good job. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
I was not aware of the fallout in between Shanahan and Marshall. If that is true I would understand not bringing Brandon here.

boom. hit it on the head. the three mentioned will be more than serviceable, especially with two talented TEs added into the mix. take whatever we were going to use to get a "vet WR," and put it towards an O-Line. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
I completely understand the arguement of address the Oline first, RB and other needs. But Shanny WILL want his own WR in this offense. I will be extremely surprised if he puts DT and Kelly at the 1, 2. Plus neither of these guys is a 1. ARE needs to get the f*ck out of town yesterday with Zorn, Portis, and several others. We will have a spot for a new receiver and I am NOT for drafting anybody else. We dont have to break the bank for a Vet and I wouldnt think Allen will with so many other needs. I dont have a problem with a Nate Bulerson type...solid route running, good hands guy...the whole arguement of impeding on the young guys development is bs, Shanny is going to be great for there development and we can still rotate them in, and believe DT or Kelly, one of these guys can come at least as a solid no. 2 receiver....I think Shanny is going to show a sh*t-ton of our guys the door on offense which is a positive in my book

Re: Add a Veteran WR?
I BELIEVE that the way the Broncos acquired Brandon Marshall in the first place was to use one of the draft picks they got from the Redskins as a result of the Skins trading up to get Jason Campbell. It is more owrk that it is worth to go and find the genesis of that draft selection, but I think that is the case.
Now if that is true, acquiring Marshall to catch passes from Jason Campbell would bring closure to the circumstances surrounding those drafts from a couple of years ago. I don't know if it would help the Redskins' team immensely, but it would effect closure. And that is your Feelgood Moment of the Day... |

That draft was one one the BEST EVER. They got Cutler, Scheffler, Marshall, Dumervil, a RG in Kuper. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
All we need is for Thomas or Kelly to have a breakout season. With that we can give our QB a better weapon in the endzone, and give him a tall receiver to throw to. Maybe look into trading cooley with hopes that Davis continues to make progress.
|
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
We SHOULD suck it up and build the O line with this years high draft picks, trade away everyone over 30, accept the fact that we're gonna suck next year, and then go after skill positions in the future. A good, young O-line gives you a big window to build the offense, BUT...........Shanny is taking Clausen. SO,...

Re: Add a Veteran WR?
I'm happy with Moss, Thomas, Kelly, and Mitchell as our WR's going into next year. It's time to STOP focusing resources on WR's and DB's and to bolster the O-line.

You said it....We have talented players at the WR position already, the missing link is someone who knows what they're doing coaching them. If after the incoming coaching staff completes their evaluation of the players we have at the position they decide we need a veteran WR so be it, that should be their call. Based on what I've witnessed the past six months it looked like we had WR's blocking for Campbell on the line. We could use one player or more at just about every position but the o-line draws top billing. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
I might be wrong, but I thought Santana was a veteran, and just as good as any veteran that's free (meaning we don't have to give up anything to get them). How about we concentrate on some of those offensive lineman that are going to be free agents.

Re: Add a Veteran WR?
It's funny how we keep reading through the thread and 10 different prople have said essentially the same thing, but each time it is treated like the ultimate original concept over and over again.
It's like watching the Family Feud. You cannot hear each others answers but they have already been used. |
