yeah just maybe, those guys don't need much of a crease to break it big |
Apparently Snyder, the owner (as opposed to Shanahan, the head coach and executive vice president of football operations) is interested in bobby april.

Sorry, not buying that Snyder is forcing coaches on Shanahan. |

I'm not talking statistics. It's not all about statistics. Atleast not to me. Betts will get you 29 yards consistantly. Good. .
I guess the fact that Betts only returned one kick is a statistic that was ignored in your thought process. |
And to that I say "Yay!" Let's block some Dallas punts before they hit the jumbotron!
(Gollee, the season's been over for 4 days and I'm ready for the Skins to take the field again.)
So this is going to be WAAAAYYYY off topic: I heard, but have no substantial proof, that DS is going to renovate FEDEX and put in HD Jumbotrons at the Endzones (or maybe just one?) I don't know anymore than that, but I will say that is a change that Daniel Snyder as owner can and should make ASAP. I will mock Dallas' cuz it's overly ridiculous, but ours are so awful that they need to something to get done now. ok back on topic, I so want to be a bug in MS' office in all of these interviews. It's got to be fascinating, as Spock would say. |

I prefer to keep spending on upgrading the team and coaches instead of having a huge TV and Wade Phillips. :)

true enough, but man that jumbotron thing at FedEx is just lousy, comparatively speaking. |

Yep. 1 TD in 9 yrs doesn't count in my book. I'm talking atleast 1 TD a year or more to be a threat or decent scheme

Kick returns for scores or blocked punts? In Bobby April's world, such things exist.
Kinda funny because when defending our horrible punt returns to the media, Zorn was quoted that we dont return well because we try to block kicks. How many punt blocks did we have this year? |

Seriously...I hope that Shanny brings someone in who will coach us up to the point that there is a legitimate threat to take it to the house every 3-5 games. |

That would be sweet, wouldn't it? Think of all the games that we lost by a close score and then add a kick return seven points to our score. We could add a win or two a year. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
The Redskin teams of old......scared other teams.
I would like to see us return to that philosophy. We have had solid from time to time, but that is not what I am talking about. I cannot remember the last time we had a team where any aspect of, I would consider....scary Needs to be a priority |
Re: Coaching Staff update
First Turner, now Dennison. Looks like neither will up here.

Re: Coaching Staff update
Well not to badmouth Dennison or Turner since I don't know much about them, but maybe this is a good thing. Perhaps Shanahan was picking them more out of friendship/former work and now he and Allen can figure out who might actually be the BEST fit. I don't know that this WILL be the case but who knows.
|
Re: Coaching Staff update
Denver is being a little nasty in not letting Shanny talk to his guys. It is their right but it seems a little petty.

I personally feel that it's a good thing. Coaches get used to their own staff with folks they've worked in the past, I think it's good for Shanahan to get some fresh faces on his staff in Washington. |

If we're going to raid a 'familiar' staff, I'd rather it be the Texans since they had a higher ranked offense than the Broncos did. I think Alex Gibbs and his son may be coming to DC.. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Any news on the ST coach? Bobby April I believe?
I am still interested in who the DC is. I still want Zim. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Dennison has had one of the best lines for years.

Re: Coaching Staff update
I think I heard somewhere we're talking to former Giants DL coach Mike Waufle
|
Re: Coaching Staff update
I don't really care who the next staff is specifically, I'm just looking for a new outlook and some passion to win. Everyone should be removed from the staff, no exceptions.

Re: Coaching Staff update
what about us bringing in (IF we definitley can't get Zim, and Gray isn't shanny's choice) Ron Riveria?? He's flexible with his defensive knowledge. he ran the 4-3 in chicago and now runs the 3-4 in san diego.

didn't he just become DC there last year? |

I hope we don't get Haslett. that would make me sad.

To be the DL coach or to be the DC? I get the feeling that the Giants used the defense as a scapegoat, because their offense was just as bad in that two-game losing streak.
I hope we don't get Haslett. that would make me sad.
Anyone know how was he as a DC? I read that he was the DC in Pittsburgh from 1997 through 1999. |

I hear Haslett is a yeller and name caller to his players. That said, I don't think that would go well with players like Albert Haynesworth. |

Re: Coaching Staff update
Stump is officially gone.
Mitchell takes Southern University job Running backs coach Stump Mitchell said today that he plans to leave the Redskins and accept the head coaching position at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. "I had an opportunity to meet with Coach [Mike] Shanahan [Sunday] and talk to him today. I'm confident that Bruce Allen and Coach Shanahan are going to make a great combination," Mitchell said in a phone conversation this afternoon. "I'm confident the Washington Redskins are in great hands, and I would've enjoyed joining them. But I have an opportunity at Southern. I'm going to take the job at Southern." Mitchell, one of just a handful of coaches that Jim Zorn hired for his staff, said he was likely to leave the Washington area today and could be introduced as soon as Wednesday as Southern's next coach. Southern offered Mitchell the position Dec. 31. Mitchell had only kind words to say about Shanahan and said he could've waited to find out how Shanahan plans to build his coaching staff, "but Southern can't wait." "I'm a football coach, and I just want to help my players get better," Mitchell said. "I've had a great experience with the Redskins, had a great experience with the guys I coach. And I wish everyone here just the best." |

Romeo Crennel:

Before becoming the head coach of the Browns, Crennel won three Super Bowls in four seasons as the defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots. Crennel has participated in six Super Bowls winning five of them during his coaching career. Despite the Cowboys' problems over the years, Zimmer has survived coaching changes (Switzer, Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Bill Parcells) and rumored to have been a candidate for the head coaching job at the University of Nebraska (2003). Re: Coaching Staff update
How about Jack Del Rio if he gets canned by Jacksonville? He was DC in Minnesota, was a position coach (LB I believe) in Baltimore, seems like he's pretty no nonsense but will put players in positions to succeed..

i'm very pleased zorn was fired. i'm ok with the shanahan and allen hires (in a vacuum.) The only thing ive been upset about is the manner in the "searches" were carried out and the implication that nothing has really changed in the way the front office operates. There's atleast 5 known candidates for our DC position. Whats the problem with me having an opinion on which one(s) i would like and which ones i would HATE? |
Re: Coaching Staff update
I think Del Rio would be a great choice, though it seems like ownership in Jacksonville will probably be convinced to keep him.
I have mixed feelings about Gray staying as DC. It would feel to me like Snyder is just trying to appease those (players mainly) who were upset when Williams was sent packing. Perry Fewell could be a sleeper |

Re: Coaching Staff update
Are we even looking at Romeo? I also read somewhere that John Fox has been given the opportunity to opp out his final year in Carolina. Could he be on our radar as a DC?
