In a few years Brunell will be wearing depends and crapping his panties every few hours. If it takes years to turn teams around, isn't it time to get impatient with Brunell and throw Ramsey in the mix?
dont get me wrong im not a brunnell fan and i think theres a good chance that ramsey could spark our offense im just not ready to completely write off brunnell he was once too good. and some quarterbacks play well untill there late thirties or early forties but nobody has a crystal ball to see if brunnell is one of those guys

You don't need a crystal ball to see that he isn't!

Gibbs

I am as frustrated as anyone, but I believe that Gibbs will turn it around...but it's not going to happen overnight. I have always been a Ramsey fan, but he might still be unlearning all the crap he had to learn under the ball coach. I think he will be the QB of the future, and I also think that future will start before the end of the season. I just hope he has lost some of the deer in the headlights look he got under Spurrier. Brunell looks bad...no doubt, but I have faith that Gibbs has a plan, and he will turn it around. Anyone that really expected he would come in and win a Superbowl was looking through rose colored glasses. I never expected more that .500 this season. So far, this is exactly what I expected. I expect Mark will be gone in a game or two. I just hope Ramsey is ready. :frusty:
As for this season, :Flush: watch it go!

Here's my two cents...

The Redskins have some good talent, but that's been true ever since the Danny first opened his wallet and started mopping up the free agent market. But, talent doesn't make for good teams. "Back in the day" when Gibbs was first here, the Skins were rarely the most talented team in the playoffs, yet did very well because they were consistently the best team in terms of teamwork, cohesion, etc.

Gibbs is trying to build that sense of being a team into a much of free agents who, let's be honest, all came here to make a buck not because they love the burgundy and gold. Now, I think many of us, myself especially, underestimated how difficult this would be. I've never wanted to admit this, but we've been in the same lower realms of the NFL as the Bengals, Cardinals, Lions and Browns these last so many years. I thought Gibbs could come in and instantly turn us around. But, realistically no one could do that.

That said, even with the struggles, we are not far from being a good team. We're playing well on defense and we've shown sporadic flashes on offense. That makes the losing all the more difficult, because we're not being blown out by three or four TDs but are losing by field goals, for the most part.

This situation, I think, makes it natural and easy to look for the key - the one problem that if we can just fix it will make everything turn around. And, since Mark Brunnell has, frankly, played attrociously, it is very easy, and perhaps even very justifiable to focus on the QB position as the one source of trouble.

Personally, if were the Head Coach of the Washington Redskins, Brunnell would have been benched weeks ago. But, my coaching prowess is limited to Madden '04 and I have no idea what is happening in practice. Neither do most of us. Maybe Ramsey is struggling with the Gibbs systems in practice as much as Brunnell is on the field. I certainly wouldn't be surprised. Given the beating he took last year and Spurriers influence, I would have been surprised if Ramsey had been ready to start this season.

Maybe, Gibbs is sticking with Brunnell because he knows that if yanks Brunnell for Ramsey and Ramsey flops, then the same chants that went up for Ramsey may go up even quicker for Hasselbeck. I remember from Gibbs' first tenure the saying that the most popular man in Washington is always the back-up quarterback. So, if we bench Brunnell and then Ramsey isn't ready and he gets benched, what does that do to his confidence and the long-term stability of the team?

In any case, Gibbs can certainly be citicized, but at the end of the day, my view is that (a) he knows more about his players than I do, seeing them practice every day and (b) he knows a lot more about coaching than I've learned from my Madden '04, so, I'm prepared to trust him.

Lastly, I think that this is just a difficult time, as some else has noted, and we need to suffer through it. The best thing for this team may just be a difficult season that DOESN'T lead to in-fight and which DOESN'T end with wholesale personnel and coaching changes.

I offered two cents worth, but I think I gave four. Sorry for going on so long.

in 3 years, when the best we do with Gibbs is 6 wins, you will view me as a prophet. :dallas: ...wait a minute, no we dont, they have a coach who gets their players to perform ABOVE what is expected, not below. :smashfrea

Dallas is 3-4 coming off a 10-6 season, are they really performing above expectations?

First, while I would no longer bet on it, I wouldn't be surprised if we got at least 6 wins this season (only 4 more to go!) Second, Gibbs will build on this season. Even if we don't get 6 wins, having Gibbs brings stability and will help this team learn that a losing season doesn't mean that you fly into panic mode and make changes for change sake. This team will grow and bond and will be better next year. And without, I hope, a lot of new faces.

And, finally, who would really want the Tuna for their coach? He's better than Spurrier, but he's certainly no Gibbs...

They have a 40 something QB, a banged up RB. We have Mark, and Portis, both of whom are better than what Dallas posseses. We have Coles, who is better than Keyshawn. Our defense is better than theres. Gibbs would be 1-6 with Dallas. Big Bill would have us at 5-2, if not 6-1. :food-smil

:coach: Put the kool aid down and come back to reality dude. This is a marathon not a 100 hundred meter dash. Gibbs is no worse of a coach than he was 12 years ago. My expectation for this season was 8-8 and I think we are still on target even with the poor play of our QB.

MTK 11-02-2004 04:01 PM

I think he's hitting something a bit stronger than kool-aid, perhaps a swig of denim_monger's famous moonshine?

NY_Skinsfan 11-02-2004 04:31 PM

ZachMills, what's up with you dude? Why such negativity towards Joe Gibbs? If your going to keep attacking Gibbs at least have some reasoning other than your own opinion. Throw a few facts in that support your arguments (if you can find any). Take a look at any of JoeCrisp's posts. Now that man knows how to back up an argument with facts...Even SportsCurmudgeon, although I disagree with most of his posts, I respect his opinion because he uses facts to support his arguments. Maybe that way, at least people will respect what you write...

Part of me thinks you are doing this just to be a PITA.

skinsguy 11-02-2004 04:34 PM

ZackMills, exactly how old are you? Are you old enough to remember watching the Redskins under Gibbs the first time around? How many games this year have we been blown out of? Had no chance of winning? This year for the most part is about building the foundation of a solid team...and that is what we will have before Gibbs decides to hang it up for good. That isn't a hopefully remark, that is a fact. Sure 2 - 5 doesn't look good at all.....0 - 5 during Gibbs' first year didn't look good either but they ended up 8-8 and in the Super Bowl the next year. To even assume that the Redskins will always be a team under .500 while under Gibbs' watch is completely idiotic. We might end up under .500 this year, but I will bet ya at worst it will be 7-9. THAT will still be an improvement on 5 - 11 from the previous year. I for one, will not be a fair weather fan and will ride the Gibbs' bandwagon until the wheels fall off and he decides to retire.

VTSkins897 11-02-2004 04:44 PM

joecrisp is sorta lame though. zackmills is just venting his frustration. so what if someone is having their doubts bashing gibbs? and so what if everything works out and they eventually celebrate the success. the problem is everyone here is in denial to an extent. we are a bad team right now. so the comments should be in accordance with our record. yeah we might get better, we might stay crappy. maybe it's just me but you can only care but so much about football. i only let my emotions run high when we're doing well. not worth it when we're sucking. they're the ones losing, not me.. so i only get minorly irritated. they're the ones getting paid (including joe gibbs). so if they mess up or suck, they deserve a little negativity. they are football players, not little kids. so lighten up when someone says something bad about them, stop living in denial... chill out a little.

First of all, what's with the attack on joecrisp? Where did that come from? Secondly, tell me if I read this wrong, but are you saying basically that you're only a fan when the Skins are winning? I'm sure you refer to them as "us" or "we" in those cases. And we're they're losing then suddenly it's "I don't care. They're the losers. Not me"

Here's your weather forecast for today: Fair

The facts are that we aren't playing well right now, but the even bigger fact is that we still have around 8 or 9 games to go so lots can happen between now and the end of the season.
two words:

Gibbs sucks
That is a retarded statement & I'm sure you said it because your pissed the Skins lost on Sunday. Simple truth is, Gibbs is a great leader & coach. He consistent & that's why he wins. You can not just pull a guy in & out of the roster each week to win. I for one am no Brunell fan, but at this point your only option is to stick with him if you want to have any chance to finish the season on any sort of a high note.

If Ramsey starts next week your just gonna see a guy that's going to need several games to learn the system in game situations. Brunell is the only option now in week 9.

Brunell clearly can not perform like years past. Ramsey...? I'm still not sure yet.....?

I'd say the Skins are gonna need to either draft a rookie QB next season or sign/trade for a quality future pro QB.

That Guy 11-04-2004 04:17 AM

i think ramsey will be fine, but i'd like to see what he's got so we can be sure of where we stand... too bad we didn't get garcia though, we'd be 7-0 with him...
