I highly doubt they would consider Portis though.
Yeah that would be a awesome trade for us, but not going to happen. I wonder if they will do cp for ac plus our 4th.

Something tells me they aren't interested in acquiring another over the hill back.

Re: LT for Portis?

I know they said they'd be okay with starting Jammer and Cason at CB next year but what if we tendered Rogers and sent him in a package Deal with Portis for Cromartie alone. Or maybe Cromartie and a 4-6th round pick, or hell Cromartie and Tomlinson lol. Id want the Cromartie and 4-6th round pick. I believe we'd also get a compensatory pick for losing rogers. But he has said numberous times that he'd rather be somewhere else and Cromartie is more productive.

There is a lot of talk in the media of the Cowboys and Chargers trading AC for Tashard Choice straight up.

There have been reports that discussions along those lines are still going on between the front offices.

sold

unfortunately SD wouldn't be

they don't want another LT type back

1) they're not big fans of his current ability
2) they're not big fans of his contract, especially in relation to number 1

I don't see an improvement in either regard for them

I could see this being one of the more likely scenarios

Yep. With Felix Jones in the forefront of Dallas's plans in the running game, there has been talk of Barber or Choice departing.

You're slowly becoming the Vinny Cerrato of this forum with your transaction proposals...

**Trade Campbell for a 4th rounder
**Trade Rogers and Portis for Cromartie
**Build the offensive line with low round picks, UDFAs, and he wonderful crop of FAs we'll have this offseason (ok, I made this one up).

Re: LT for Portis?

id much rather have cromartie. not sure the skins would give up their high 2nd rounder this year but id be tempted to offer our 2nd in 2011 for him. def our 4th this year and next years 3rd.

i follow the chargers alil bit and the fans (and FO it seems) to want to move him.

I haven't read the story, but from a fan perspective, any particular reason they want to move him?

Re: LT for Portis?

well, the post in the super duper funny thread kinda explains it well. i think dirtbag posted it. the fans are mad b/c he doesnt play physical at all. im honestly at a momentary loss for the other reasons but

the article points out they have depth at cb with 1st round pick jammer (whom charger fans wanted gone years ago and considerd him a bust after a few seasons which i thought was insane b/c he played pretty well back then considering they had NO ONE else in their secondary) and another 1st round cb who i am not too familiar with.

i may be stuck on '07 cromartie and not the '09 cromartie thoo in my assessment of him.

Re: LT for Portis?

We already have contact-avoiding, non-physical corners. We don't need to add another like AC.

Re: LT for Portis?

Well we've got a lot of players on our roster we could part with, but I'd be hesitant to use any picks to grab cromartie, even 3rd 4th and 5th rounders. I'm not sure if SD would go for it if there were no picks involved tho. He seems okay, but not worth giving up anything major for

I'd bet Dallas keeps Choice and Jones. Jones can take it the distance on any given carry and Choice has proven to be a very capable NFL RB.

Barber is the odd man out.
I agree with this fully, and this same logic is why CP should not be the primary back next season for us. If the team made the playoffs somehow next year, CP would likely be too hurt/banged up, to have a serious role in them....
That's the thing, though. Every time we had portis and got to the playoffs, He was healthy and played but we lost for different reasons. Under Gibbs we went twice. The first time, we got there because Gibbs used a max protect and would launch it to santana every now and then and Brunell would hit it big from time to time, but when we played a playoff level team, that wasn't enough to solidify our passing game. The LAST time, CP was healthy, but our punk@$$ QB turned to a piece of crap, chicken, mother f... UGH!!! I mean, once the 50 year backup made ONE BAD PASS that got picked off, he turned into this loser that was scared of everything and ... and... UGH!!! WHAT A PANSY!!!! You can say what you will about Jason Campbell, but he NEVER lets one early mistake mess with his head and screw up a whole game. Todd, after one pick, was the worst QB we ever had the rest of that playoff game! I would take, Jay Schroeder, Broken neck Ferotte, or Heath Shuler over "after pick Todd" any day!

Wait... um... what were we talking about? I just blacked out for a second...

Re: LT for Portis?

in that seattle playoff loss i think we started to go down hill when we recovered that kickoff that seattle never touched, then cooley dropped a pass at the goal line which he would catch 95 out of 100 times, then shazaam missed a 30 something field goal.

after that, collins tried to make plays instead of not making mistakes and taking what the D gave him.

Interesting:
Where Does Portis Stand with Skins?

By Matt Mosley

INDIANAPOLIS -- A lot of folks are focused on the Washingon Redskins' quarterback situation, but there's also some intrigue at running back. On Friday, coach Mike Shanahan did not want to discuss Clinton Portis' future with the club but he's made it clear that he needs to see a committment from all his players in the offseason program. As some of you know, Portis' offseason "workouts" have often taken place in South Florida.

"Let's not talk about Clinton," Shanahan said when asked about Portis' offseason plans. "Let's talk about everybody on the Washington Redskins. Let's not focus on one guy. I want everybody to be as good a football player as they can be. I want all the guys on our football team to make a commitment in the offseason to work, and work extremely hard. That's how we're gonna get better as a team ... It's very important to show your teammates exactly how hard you work and how dedicated you are to the program."

After Shanahan left the podium Friday, I asked him about any potential interest in former Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson. Shanahan didn't say anything definitive, but he indicated that he and Tomlinson are close friends who stay in contact. I wouldn't be shocked to see Tomlinson end up on the Redskins' roster.

Also:
Mike from Richmond, Va., has a question about the Skins' RBs situation: So I hear Thomas Jones is going to be released. Do you think this is someone the Redskins would be interested in? Everyone is saying how much Shanny likes LT. I would think Jones would still have more in the tank. Thoughts?

Mosley: Everyone who's saying that Mike Shanahan loves LaDainian Tomlinson is exactly right, Mike. I think the coach has immense respect for Tomlinson after being battered by the running back in the AFC West. As AFC West blogger Bill Williamson told me this past week, Shanahan always covets players who have stuck it to him in the past. That said, I think you're correct to say that Jones has more left in the tank. He's arrived at that magic age where his skills begin to decline, but he could still be effective as a complementary back. Would he be happy splitting carries with Clinton Portis in Washington? Well, he may not have a choice. Honestly, I think Chester Taylor might be a better fit than Jones in Washington.

LT is smart though and will either go to Indy, Minnesota, New Orleans, or [hopefully not] New England, I think he wants to win more than get paid at this point.
