I doubt strongly that JC has a job this season if he is released, barring an injury during pre-season and somebody signs him. The guy over at Roto said just a few hours ago that there was very little interest in Campbell at all as a FA pickup. His best chance is just stay in shape incase someone gets hurt and that's his way back in the league.

I also doubt that any team would give anything for him. JC, in all truthfulness, would probably only net a 3rd or 4th round pick...

Maybe somebody should make a "Thank You Jason" thread? totally not being sarcastic. I was never a fan of his, but he was classy and always handled himself professionally...
I don't know. As a starter probably not strong interest, as a backup yeah.
So you have McNabb at starter, backup #1 JC, and backup #2 SexyRexy?

Plus you know Shanny wants to draft a developmental QB for the #3 slot. JC is gone.

This kind of reminds me of when McNabb pulled Campbell in after that game and had a short talk with him. I remember posting that we knew it was him saying man keep your head in there and work hard, I've been going through the same thing for years.

What a change.

Wait for Mallet in 2011 or 2012 and get a guy like Stull or Kafka to develop in the later rounds. THen you can dumb Grossman in 2011.

mallett is slow and very inaccurate for a top qb, 55% last season and 15 of 36 in his bowl game. huge arm though and is huge. i dont know if he would fit with shanny's system basically.

Again only QB I really see us even attempting to acquire in the future that has a legitimate chance of playing is Tebow and thats only with a trade down.

#2 Grossman
#3 rookie QB

Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?

I wouldn't mind sending him to Seattle. Certainly a better situation then Buffalo and MUCH better then Oakland. Then again how can anyone expect Campbell to compete with Whitehurst. I mean thats just crazy.

Should The Seattle Seahawks Target Jason Campbell? | 12th Man Rising | A Seattle Seahawks Blog

One Panther fan wrote that they (the Panther nation) "wont Jason Campbell" last November:
we wont jason campbell!!! - Carolina Panthers Message Board

Cleveland would have been a perfect fit but offering so much money to Delhome makes me wonder if they would consider trying to acquire Campbell. Then again the McNabb trade has shown us that anything is possible.

Tenneesee would have been a great fit next year with our offseason this year (if that makes any sense to y'all).

I think JC will be here this year because McNabb is old and injury prone (like the Skins RBs) and they will need a sort of capable backup.

Not only does Colt lose his number, but he's likely lost his roster spot too. A double punch to the gut for the Cult of Colters.

Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?

The Redskins really have the upper hand here. While it's true they want to get rid of Campbell, on the other hand they don't have to. The world knows #5 will be under center come opening day. It's not big secret. They could be patient, let draft day roll around, and let some desperate team ante up a second rounder for JC.

I think they're going to --or should-- milk this one.

Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?

Well remember what happened before when Jason told his agent to ask for a trade if the redskins drafted a QB with their top pick (I think it was before the 09 off-season). I think the same thing applies here.

He knows neither the fans or team wants him now, obviously (but sad). I would try and go wherever i could get a chance to start...if not, there's a real chance he could go the way of other first round busts and be out of the league within a season or two...

Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?

I don't even know why this is a discussion topic. He is going, going, GONE!

1. Forget about a QB competition - McNabb is the starter.
2. JC probably can't wait to get out of D.C.
3. Keeping JC around is a constant reminder of the bad old days in D.C.
4. A draft pick - even a third round pick - is worth more to the Skins than JC is at this point.
5. The decent thing to do is to trade JC to a team where he has a chance to be the starter. He is a good person and he deserves it.

I have a bad feeling we'll be stuck with Campbell, McNabb and still draft a QB! It's the same illogic they used to sign Johnson and Parker while having Portis. Senseless.

diehard 04-05-2010 08:37 AM

Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?

Yes, McNabb is better than Kolb right now. In a year or two, Kolb likely will still be playing, whereas McNabb will be out of the league without a SB ring. Campbell has to be traded for a pick or trade out of the 4th overall spot. This team isn't getting any younger! I just don't like the core makeup of this team or it's unclear direction. I understand turning over a roster to get younger, perhaps better while staying competitive. A lot has to be seen to bellieve.

I hope we draft all o-line this year and take Jake Locker next year as our QB of the future.

Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?

If we can trade JC for a 3rd round pick, we have essentially pulled off the best move in the offseason by not only vastly improving our QB group with McNabb and Grossman, but done so by just moving back a round in the draft this year and giving up a mid round pick next year.

What I like the most is we will be picking a Tackle with our first pick, a safer pick who can improve the Oline immediately.

Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?

The problem here is JC doesn't really have any value. No one wanted him last year so what's changed? Might be better off keeping him and letting him back up DM.

MTK 04-05-2010 09:17 AM

Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?

There are teams out there that still have a need at QB, depending on what happens in the draft there still may be a market for JC.

I agree, JC has no value so keep him for when DM gets hurt which will happen this season.

On the, I hope this is true front, By taking McNabb out of the pool of available qb's we may in fact have increased JC's stock by a) reducing quality QB's by two(McNabb/Grossman) and b) given more impetus to the belief JC never really got a fair shake here at DC. Apparently there are 4-5 teams that are at least kicking the tires on JC.

I don't think that's true. We were probably just asking for too much.

IMO, it is not good for the new direction of the team to keep JC around, regardless of what he may or may not be worth in a trade. If he can't be traded then he should be cut.

We are better off turning the page at this point whether or not we get anything for him.

I wonder if a trade down with our #4 and JC would be worth a lower first rounder and either a second or a third rounder.

Say what you say about JC, he'd be a solid back up and a good (character) role model for a young QB.

Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?

It only takes Donovan McNabb getting hurt for Jason to have to step back in. It's not like us picking up McNabb guarantees he wouldn't take a snap next year. I wouldn't be surprised if Campbell does stay at least one more year. I'm not sure how sought after he is as a starting QB around the league.

What a great thought! That would be beautiful! Trade JC for a veteran RT, then pick up Okung in the draft to play LT. We would be able to upgrade our OL with only one rookie starting and then we could go best player available for the rest of our draft.

JC is gone. He has been a classy guy throughout this time in Washington. I really am not stoked about Grossman being a backup.

Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?

With the Redskins' trade for Donovan McNabb, it is clear that Jason Campbell is not long for Washington, D.C. A trade seems to be a strong possibility, with two possible destinations being the two teams that just lost out on the McNabb sweepstakes: Oakland and Buffalo.

The Raiders might make a little more sense seeing as how the Bills could now be turning toward the draft for a QB, hoping for Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen to drop to them at no. 9, or perhaps nabbing a Colt McCoy or a Tim Tebow in rounds 2 or 3. Campbell would seem to be an upgrade over Bruce Gradkowski, and has the type of big arm that Al Davis likes to see in his quarterbacks. And of course, there is the chance of a team biding its time and getting into the mix later (say, a Favre-less Minnesota Vikings, if they see Campbell as an upgrade over the Tarvaris-Sage duo).

Carolina is another team to keep an eye on, as the Panthers have yet to settle their QB situation, and a hardworking, less flashy guy like Campbell might be more of what they're looking for in the position (seeing as they have taken a pass on adding Michael Vick, despite his interest in playing for them). Campbell would be in a position to challenge Matt Moore, or serve as a more-than-capable backup. Don't count out the Cleveland Browns, either. They have lots of draft picks to offer, and the current depth chart of Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace is scaring no one.

Michael Wilbon writes in today's Washington Post that while McNabb is a great fit for the Redskins, Campbell will also be better off because of the trade.

It may be tough for the Redskins to find a suitable trade partner, however. Matt Mosley explains why below:
