If you think that we won't have him extended before the season I'm not sure what to say.

You have seemed really bitter lately though. I mean I get not having unbridled hopes but you're all doom and gloom right now it seems. I haven't seen a post from you in awhile that credits even one unit, much less side of the ball or whatever.

btw and offtopic, you guys set a date yet?
Yeah...we have a month and a half until the big day. Just met the violinist this past weekend and have things in place. Thanks for asking man.

I'm not saying we won't have him signed, especially with the proclivity of Snyder to spend cash, but the fact that we don't have him signed yet. That really should have been figured out before the trade was executed. I don't think McNabb should have a period of time to debate a resigning. If he picked us then stipulate that when the trade is transacted and make his extension contingent on it.

I just mentioned that if I was McNabb I would put the contract extension on ice and see how this season plays out. If the Skins did poorly I wouldn't stick around to see it through. McNabb certainly isn't playing for money at this point in his career so there are teams out there that he'd want to help to a Super Bowl immediately.

Not bitter, just waiting for our liabilities to be addressed...it's been 2 years straight in which we've made major additions to places other than OL, all the while it being our major liability. Not one high draft pick traded or selected has been done anything about it.

Re: why no extension?

The trade happened pretty quick and seemed to take the Redskins off guard a bit. A deal will get done, honestly I don't even see where it's a concern.

Re: why no extension?

Nice man, hang in there.

Yeah, if we don't have our OL settled by July or so I'll start getting nervous. Who knows if someone from some team goes down and we ship a guy off in a trade that involves someone or whatever the case may be. I mean we can't have 5 all-stars on the line, not that we really even have 1 right now, but we'll just have to accept that we're probably looking at most of what we'll have. As long as we get the LT situation figured out I think that we'll be mostly okay, though McNabb will probably be rolling right quite a bit, though they'll probably allow the rusher more on the inside in those cases. I'd really like to solidify the other end but I think having Dockery and Rabach will be solid enough in those spots. Then if Big Mike, Hicks, whoever can handle the RG spot we'll be okay, even if it's a bit by committee, can't forget Rinehart either.

I know I am way overly concerned but:

PostBroncos

$$$ RT @Adam_Schefter: Marshall reaches agreement with Dolphins on four-year, $47.5 million extension, including $24 million guaranteed.

Marshall can apparently reach an ageement within 24 hours and I don't think anyone thought he was going to be easy to bargain with. If the Skins want McNabb to be their guy, they should sign him up and get it done with. Now maybe they are waiting for the draft and how JC's situation shakes out, but once they decided to bring McNabb in, the contract ought get done sooner rather than later

They've probably been working contract out for awhile. It may be only the 2 figures that are done on his contract, who knows.

There's really no rush to all of this, his availability to us came pretty unexpectedly. I mean do we really think that McNabb is going to hold out and throw a fit? He could've done that in Philly. I don't think that we would've taken the trade had we not had an idea of what he'd want moving forward. None of us would even do that trade, why would real football people?

His May 5 roster bonus that's due to him has something to do with the negotiations. I don't really follow all the salary cap rules so I don't know exactly what it is, but figuring out that piece is the hold up

Re: why no extension?

So i had a crazy thought. With the Rams likely to select Bradford, and the Redskins signing McNabb, but not immediately extending his contract, the Redskins are in prime position to corner the QB market this offseason if they selected Jimmy Clausen with the #4 overall pick.

Oakland and Buffalo, at minimum, would be willing to give us a favorable deal for the QBs of their choice, as they would have no other viable alternatives (Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow are nowhere near ready to start). Here's what we could conceivably do and how it would play out:

1) Get Oakland and Buffalo (and whoever else is interested) in a bidding war for Clausen (and/or McNabb).
2) Whoever offers the best deal gets either Clausen or McNabb.
3) The loser gets Jason Campbell for an above-market price.
4) The Redskins get McNabb or Clausen as its franchise QB and a plethora of draft picks and players
5) I am heralded as a genius for calling it over a week in advance

Then it all backfires when Pittsburgh puts Roethlisberger into the mix as trade bait.

BigHairedAristocrat 04-14-2010 03:12 PM

Re: why no extension?

I don't think the market for Rothlisberger would be that much greater than Vicks. Sure, someone would take him, but no one's going to want to commit to a franchise QB that may very well wind up in jail based on his recent behavior. he's shown no signs of actually learning anything, although only time will tell. Maybe i'm somewhat biased, because i really, really, hate the guy.

D. Jackson has only played 2 years though, I would guess he's got at least another 2 years on his deal. Of course, he could demand to be paid anytime & would have some leverage based on his production.

He has a base salary of $550,000 and roster bonus of $764,625 for 2010. Not much for a starting QB. Giving him a 1 year extention for 12.25 mil is not exactly a ringing endorsement. Though it does show more confidence than JC was shown.

Well Kolb's not much of a starting QB.:laughing- As far as JC is concerned I'm curious to see how Skins fans will react if he has a breakout season. I have never been a huge fan but I do hope he does have a great season. Oakland seems to really believe in him. It will be interesting to see how he does. Have a good night 53.

It must all be signing bonus - which is exempted, but also guaranteed. That would explain the 100 % guarantee on the contract.

Technically a veteran can't have their contract renegotiated twice within a 12 month period (and McNabb just had his renegotiated with his extension last June). But I'm not entirely sure how that rule applies when a player changes teams
