Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Unreal is what I thought of it too. I am not a hardcore fan and I really cant stomach watching another DC team fail, so I changed the channel after the 2nd period. Hit up ESPN to see the score and I was shocked.
Split at home 1-1, but I am really worried. This isnt simply a tough matchup, caps need to figure stuff out fast. Tough road leg ahead. |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Is anyone else just finished with Mike effing Green? Sure, he's a great scorer for a defenseman, but that dude stinks up the joint in the playoffs, and his defense is awful. Just awful.
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Totally unreal game. The goaltending and defense need to be much better if we think we're going anywhere in these playoffs.
Bood's has a big decision to make on the netminder for game 3. Theo or Varly? What do you guys think? I'm stumped. I'm not really confident in either right now, although overall Theo has been playing more lately, and aside from today has been really good the past 25 or so games. Man oh man, that would have been a SICK game to see live. That place was going ape shit.
i'm really torn right now, while theo had a great run during the season he really hasn't looked that great recently and after two goals on two shots i think it was a good pull, but varly just doesn't have the experience. i just hope we can step up or f-ing o and score some goals out of the gate and get a early lead, i'm sick of this playing catch up crap. we seriously look like the 8th seed and those shifty little canucks are skating around us like the number 1 seed and seriously green better get his shit together he has no points and hasn't done anything besides sit in the box, carlson looks great though, that kid is flying around lookin to show he belongs, had a great goal last night we have to win the first game in montreal, we really need to win both and send a message and get this team back on track cause they way they are playing they might not even make it past the first round |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Yeah I'm sure Boudreau has a really tough decision to make right now. I was at Hard Times watchin the game last night and we just looked bad when we got down 4-1. Everytime we get into a big deficit we can't just sit there and think, "Alright guys lets turn on the offense and go win this" because it doesn't work like that. We got lucky, like really lucky. It's nice that we have such an offensively powerful team but in the playoffs you really have to be tight defensively and have good goaltending and we don't have either.
I think it's pretty much safe to assume this is the last we'll see of Theo unless Varly stinks up the joint again like in game 7 of the playoffs against the Pens last year. But really neither of our goaltenders is that great. I don't know what it is about the playoffs that makes Theo just not play that good but it's not enough to play great in the regular season anymore, you gotta be good in the playoffs too. And I'm not sure if Varly can be that shutdown goalie that we desperately need right now with all of our defensive breakdowns. And it's just disappointing for me to watch Mike Green try to play defense. I'm sorry but for everything he gives us offensively defensively it's not worth it. If we get eliminated I'll go on the record to say that I don't think he'll be here next season. It's nice having so many players with offensive capability but right now I think we have enough offensive scorers and having a defender who is one right now is an extra luxury, but he stops being a luxury when he can't do the job he's actually supposed to do which is play defense. |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Imagine how great our defense would be in the playoffs if Green got his confidence back and Alzner developed. I would also say when Carlson develops but my goodness the guy is already there.

Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Looks like Boudreau is non-commital on either goalie. Not sure how I feel about a goaltending by committee approach.

Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
If they score 99 goals then we'll score 100.
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
So glad the Caps don't have a game scheduled for Thursday. Now I don't have to worry about watching the NFL draft and the Caps game at the same time.

Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Caps are luck it is a tied series. I can't wait for tonight's game, should be a real barn burner.
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Pretty high tempo first period. I can't believe how crazy loud it sounds in the Bell Centre, I mean I knew Montreal had a reputation for their passionate fans but it suprised even me. I was also suprised it's 0-0 at the first break, I saw some great goaltending by both sides.
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Varly between the pipes......gutsy call. I like it. We need to have a solid team effort from ALL and we will be fine.
Lets roll! GO CAPS! |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Man the Montreal Crowd is pretty rough and I thought we were pretty bad ass. I wonder how that effects the defense when they boo OV. It's like if your back is to the play the crowd is telling you who has the puck. Still I feel like they're playing much better. Varly is kicking ass and taking names and it's only a matter of time before we score.
However it was such a pain in the ass trying to get my schools internet to work. First all the ethernet jacks except two hidden in the floor didn't work so in the meantime I tried to log on to the schools wireless network which employs some shitty program named Clean Access agent that never lets you on even after you do all the spyware scanning they ask you to do, and to make matters worse it slows down your computer. Then while finding an open desktop in an empty room I randomly got hit with spyware during the Canadians power play. Either way I'm fine now but damn, sometimes people make technology to damn hard. |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
this isn't looking good so far, they better turn it on in the second

Lol, talk about speaking to soon. |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
This is a great week to be a fan of the Caps and Redskins. I mean can there be much more daily sports than this week?
Monday - Caps playoff game Tues - NFL sched. gets released Wed - Caps playoff game Thurs - 1st round NFL draft Fri - Caps playoff game, 2nd round NFL draft Sat - Final rounds NFL draft, also Fedex draft day party for those who are going. I can't remember one week in a while where there was daily sports happening every day. Also can't forget NBA playoffs (i'm still watching even though the Wizards were nowhere close to making it). As I type this the Caps are kicking ass and taking names. 2-0 lead and Varly is making lights out saves. Awesome. |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
We have them on their heels lets finish them off with another goal or two.
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Ha! 3-0. Something tells me the Canadians don't have the offensive firepower to come back from a 3 goal deficit.
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Carey Price coming on. Hopefully it doesn't have the same effect for the Canadians as Varly did last game. In other news I might be able to finally do something else at 9:30 on the night of a Capitals playoff game rather then contribute to my first heart attack.
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
OV!!!!! What happened to the stick distance and closing the gap defense that the announcers wouldn't shut up about for the first two games?
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Props to Ref 59 for getting in there and stopping the goons and their cheap hits on Chimera.
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Thats the best 20 I've seen the Caps play this series. Its about time they're actually playing like the caps.
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
If we can play like we played in that period for the rest of the playoffs, they'll win the cup - no question.
|

That's one of the best 20 minutes I've seen the Caps play this season. As long as they play half as good as they played in the second this game is wrapped up. And that's the kind of period that can completely give the momentum to one side in a series, hopefully we can wrap this thing up after this. |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Damnit...Can't really do much about that one. We just cant let them build up any momentum.
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
I really just want to get out of this series. I'll feel so much better if we can get out clean. Honestly, the habs are the last team that I wanted to play in the first round.

Agreed. |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
well it's about time they showed up. these canucks are some dirty little f-ers they are lookin for a fight with everyone, if this was at verizon i could see us gettin some more calls
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Hopefully they can figure out Carey Price before Game 4. I think part of our success tonight is due to them learning how to attack Hallack.

Carey Price isn't that good of a goalie. They'll have no problem figuring him out. I wouldn't be surprised if they still give Hallack the nod for Wednesday though. |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Hell yeah! I love seeing Brads score. He was really digging for that one.
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
awesome game
|
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
That second period was something serious. Varly was awesome tonight. Looks like Bood's made the right call. Ovi's goal was nasty. This is how a 1 seed is supposed to look like vs an 8 seed.
I really hope Varly is here to stay, both in the postseason and for years to come. I really want to buy his jersey. :) |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
haha yeah I've been on the fence about the Varly jersey.. I'll probably get a Green or Backstrom next though.. whenever I can justify it..

Not only is he a gritty player but he wears #21 so how can you not respect that.
But for now since I don't make it to nearly as many games as I'd like to I'll just stick with my #8 sweater. |

Mike Green is dead to me until he starts playing some friggin defense. |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
Lets go Bruins ! If Savard comes back they could be a force.

I want to see him take some shots. It's like him and John Carlson switched places. |
Re: Stanley Cup Playoffs 2010
serriously green is on my shit list, he really needs a wake up call, he just sucks sooo bad in the playoffs it's unreal. i would love to see bood pull green off the pp team, and replace him with carlson, we definitley need a revamp we only have one goal in pp so far this seris which is 1 out of 9 if i'm not mistaken
