Right, bound to yield a huge crop in a flower box. More than enough to feed the fam I'm sure.
You'd surprised how many tomatoes you can get out of one flower box and a hydroponics system. |
Re: Regulations On Salt?
Okay, poor people qualify for the SNAP program (food stamps). A family of 4 with head of household making ~20K (10/hours) can receive ~$600/month. This argument really should just reflect overall health consequences for using any ingredient that either preserves food longer or enhances taste (or both).

Re: Regulations On Salt?
Next regulation to debate:
Pepper. Why would it? a.) Makes people sneeze. This could lead to higher healthcare costs. b.) Often used in controlling unwanted animals. The abuse must stop. Why won't it? a.) It's black. Only white seasonings need to be taxes and restricted. b.) Red is a favorite color of Communists. |
No shit but i bet less then 5% of the people with yeards even grow gardens. I'd say my garden is about 15x15 maybe 15x20 and I have to bring stuff in to give to my employees because there is no way we could eat all that we grow. My wife is going to try her hand a canning some tomatoes this year so we will see how that works out.
Why can't the goverment come up with levels of standards to rate each food. So something low in fat and salt would get a high grade while something high in those would get a lower grade. So then consumers and producers can decide on the products they make or we use. Very easy and it does not force anyone to make their food to goverment standards. I personally think that processed food is high on sondium but I don't want the goverment mandating what can and cannot go on my shelf.
Congrats to you and your green thumb. Not everyone has a yard, or if they do not everyone is blessed with suitable soil/growing conditions, and on top of everything not everyone has the time/knowledge to dedicate to a garden. And at the end of the day how does a garden solve any of the things we're talking about here? Growing up my parents had a garden and even a small vineyard, they were always canning veggies, making wine, etc. But in the end you still have to rely on the grocery store for the majority of your food needs. |

We till the dirt, dig little holes and plant stuff. Its not really that hard and if someone cannot figure that out then they probably should die before they reproduce.JK Not sure how veggies became a part of the subject I just responded to what someone posted. While off the subject I don't think salt is a big cause of people getting fat either and its more about blood pre. |
Re: Regulations On Salt?
I didn't say it was hard to do, but it can be a good amount of work depending on the size when it comes to weeding and watering. And it helps to have some basic knowledge of what you're growing as well.

Yeah becasue salt and blood pressure have no correlation. |

I remember back in high school one of my history teachers explaining to our class that most older Russian women have cankles because of the high salt content in the Soviet-era diet. I still laugh about that one.

I think tonight in keeping with this thread I'm going to eat a 16oz ribeye, bake potato with all the fixings, green beans cooked with some ham, good bread and pound it down with soda. I love salt on my steak and bake potato. I will finish it off with a loud FU Obama burp.

I think without a doubt cereals will have serious legislation introduced on how much sugar they can contain within the next 10 years, Im sereal. Theres already been attempted tv ad cereal bans, because they target kids - but for sereal, kids dont buy cereal. Can parents really not say no to their kids? Re: Regulations On Salt?
I just realized we are headed towards a future predicted by the movie Demolition Man, staring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes.
"It is explained that anything "not good for you" is deemed "bad" and therefore illegal, including alcohol, caffeine, contact sports, non-educational toys, meat, spicy and unhealthy food, table salt and tobacco. Firearms can only be seen in museums. Physical contact was recognized as causing the spread of disease and is now seen as unusual. Even high-fives have been replaced with energetic waving. "Sex" is no longer a physical act for the same reasons, and even kissing is not condoned. Instead, "Vir-Sex" is performed by using sex simulators worn on the participants' heads to replace physical intercourse. Procreation is carried out in a laboratory; abortion is illegal, but so is unlicensed pregnancy. Toilet paper has been replaced by a set of seashell-like items, though their method of use is left unexplained in the movie (though Stallone later suggested a possible method in an interview as told to him by one of the film's writers[4])." Whatever! At the end of the day you're going to die. Yeah, you might have a really healthy body and some kick ass guns, but you're going to die. That six pack is going to look off the chain in the casket. I don't worry about it myself.
