Kelly's knee wasn't an issue last year.

I thought he had some swelling during preseason and had to keep sitting out/icing it down. Then due to all of that he hardly saw the field cause they felt he didn't know the routes well enough? |

I thought he had a Hixon related issue :) Clearly our team's biggest need now is new story lines! |

You must be mixing up his rookie year with last year. He started the season as the starter at WR last year, started the first 5 games. He just got benched for being unproductive, his knee wasn't a factor. |
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
The biggest needs are still all same, regardless of the draft IMO... Yes, we drafted Trent Williams (which I'm absolutely in joy for) but he isn't proven player, just not yet.. Like few posters said, the only proven players on O-line are Doc and Rabach.. However, Shanahan has announced that he's going to use zone-blocking scheme, which we are not sure whether if Doc and Rabach will fit in well.. Yes, Shanahan have said that he's impressed and perhaps is satisfied with the players.. But in our fans eyes, we don't believe so.. So, in my opinions, I think we still need to get much competitions as we can get for O-line, in order to have the most best available players we can get.. We will find out if our needs are actually taken care of later in middle of season..
The other needs are FS, ILB, and maybe WRs.. I very much would love for Thomas and Kelly to have plenty of opportunities they can get - this is only way we will find out whether if they are busts or not.. Our offense pretty much would stall if our WRs doesn't produce, which probably is the reason why we still should find a decent WR through free agent (TO comes to mind but I cannot stand the thought of him wearing Redskins uniform).. But fortunately for us, we have Cooley and Davis - we have players we could use that would help us greatly, suppose if our WRs does not produce.. On either Redskins.com article or Redskins Insider notes; it said that Spanos (our new LB coach) have studied extensively on Riley and wanted him.. Since Steelers have history of uncovering LB gems and I'm hoping that it's relatively large due to Spanos; because if it is, then we have good chance of having a good player out from Riley.. One poster asked why not many of us have love for Kareem Moore - he haven't really proved us much.. He did play couple of times last season but he did nothing that showed us that he's playmaker or anything like that.. However, Redskins did not try to address FS position through free agent nor draft.. So based on this, I'm going to assume that Redskins are satisfied with the Safety players.. |
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
I think we need a good change pace of running back to knock Willie Parker's ass off the roster. That's the number one need, in my opinion.
I think --hope-- that Trent Williams will change the dynamic of the offensive line in a positive way. Meaning the overall line play and chemistry up front will more than likely improve. I just don't see us collapsing along the front like we did under Zorn. There were many factors contributing to our poor line play last season, injuries were among the top reasons though. |
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
The biggest need is depth at OT and FS.
|
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
more linebackers would be nice.

LOL..depth at OT is every team's need, every year. |

Yeah, but every other team doesn't have Stephanie Heyer as their RT. |

True, true...Heyer seems to be a thorn in our side. Someone needs to just beat him out this year. |
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
Is Heyer the new Ade Jimoh?
|
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
By far the biggest immediate need is at LB.... Carter cant play OLB, and Rocky isnt big enough for ILB...Then RT, Hicks is better suited for RG/LG or depth..

I am confident we will see a difference in....effort as they will put out a better effort for Shanny |
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
I'll say DB's...and perhaps some confidence now! it goes a long way.
I felt that sometimes last season our guys went into a game expecting to lose...hopefully shanaman changes that. |
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
Right Tackle. I'm comfortable with letting Moore and Doughty compete for FS.
|
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
I Say our needs are OL, still, OLB, FS, and more corner depth, to contain the Dallas receivers.
|
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
Its pretty obvious to me that we'll bring in a WR at some point. I just have no idea who it could be. The FAs available arent' very impressive. maybe we'll get lucky and a team will make a surprise cut.

Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
Not sure it's a need but my biggest area of concern is linebacker. I think Orakpo will be fine but...Fletcher isn't getting any younger, Wilson is still very very raw, I don't think Rocky will be here by the time the regular season starts, not even sure HB Blades will, not sure what Haslett is going to do that will make Carter an effective 3-4 LB when he wasn't in San Fran, Jarmon and Alexander are also question marks at new positions.
|
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
why do you think we'd trade rocky? i can't imagine we'd get anything worthwhile for him, so we might as well just keep him for another year.

Damn, son.. The way you put it in, sounds like Orakpo is only dependable LB - which is really BAD sign.. |
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
Fletcher isn't dependable?

We might work Rocky into a trade for Jammal Brown. |
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
^ him and Andre could be in a trade for Jammal Brown.

Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
Our current linebackers (from Redskins.com):
Lorenzo Alexander - Will he fit as an ILB? H.B. Blades - still good backup at best Alvin Bowen (who?) Andre Carter - Years in SF prove his lack of ability to play LB. London Fletcher - 35 years old, will need Big Al upfront to continue his high level play Curtis Gatewood - who? Robert Henson - Last year 5th rd pick. Did nothing Jeremy Jarmon - Played DE in college. Must make transition Rocky McIntosh - Did have his best year with us in 2009, but true WLB in a 4-3 Brian Orakpo - Beast, confident he will play 4-3 DE and 3-4 OLB with no problem Perry Riley - Rookie Chris Wilson - listed as LB/DE Yes, as I see it, in a 3-4 base, we have only one solid LB- Orakpo. Fletcher will produce as he always does but that's it. More than half the roster is either unproven, or previously proved they are limited to backup roles, best suited for the 4-3, or proven they can't play well in a 3-4. We need serious ILB help. |
Re: What is the team's biggest need after the draft?
I wouldn't think that changing from Will in the 4-3 to 3-4 would cause many issues.. especially grading somebody as a true Will in just the 4-3.. feel free to correct me if I'm not thinking of something

Well, you're 100% right if you take all your info from LL: Redskins Insider - LaRon Landry plans on helping Perry Riley adjust to the NFL And LL knows a lot more about football than I do. Maybe he develops into a starter 1-2 yrs behind McIntosh until we let McIntosh go via free agency since they play the same position. We have enough LBs on the roster but not enough quality depth to trade Rocky this year I don't think. Unless it's him and Carter for true 3-4 personnel. I'd rather Fletcher take Riley under his wing than Landry. |

Jarmon might turn out to be good and Henson might step up like everyone is hoping Kelly does. |
