Garcia made him a stud in 2007. He keeps himself in great shape. This is a great signing.

Bottom line: this is a low risk/high reward move, if he makes the team awesome, if not no loss on our end. I doubt he makes it (the Pats cut him last yr) but I like the competition and he "could' take the 5 WR spot.
I still want TO, I dont care what anyone says, if we signed him, I would officially be comfortable with going into this season. TO, Santana, Devin Thomas and Malcom Kelly. We would be set, keep Marko and Austin if he does his thing in the preseason.
Relax, were just waiting for his $ to come down a few Mill. then he will be here. He currently want aprox. 6M. to sign. Once he agrees to 3.5M - 4M He's a Redskin. Unless the Bengals bite at 6M

What about Billy "white shoes" Johnson? Was he not available? I say Charlie Taylor last winter he looked like he still had a few catches left in him.

Wow, yet ANOTHER 30-something player signed past his prime. How many does that make this off-season?

Kemoeatu
McNabb
LJ
Parker
Ryan
Galloway

Remind me again what has changed since Allen became GM?

Well other than McNabb, the rest are role players, not signed to splashy contracts, but performance based and easily cuttable. The FO isn't on a free for all spendfest, but bringing in young UDFA's and veteran talent in order to find the right mix is not the same as our past FO's plan.

meh who cares

Maybe he gives us something, maybe he's cut before the season.

While I concur that the contracts are indeed more easy to swallow than in years past. My concern is as I look around the rest of the NFC East, the other 3 teams are getting younger, whereas the Redskins are getting older.

I'm sure the lack of draft picks in recent years plays a part in that. So when you look at the shear number of over-30 vets signed this year, some of not most will be seeing significant playing time.

I am sure that Skins and Skins fans truly appreciate your concern.

Obviously a lack of draft picks played a part in it. The "shear number of it" doesn't follow, since currently we have at least 80 people under contract, of which 53 will be on the final roster and only 45 on any gameday (I know you know that), so just under half the bodies in camp won't make it, and it's easier to bring in older players like Galloway for a serviceable camp body because you don't have to really spend time teaching him the basics, like you would an undrafted FA. Camp bodies have to come from somewhere, and if some do make the final cut (as I am sure they will) I doubt it will suddenly overwhelm what youth we do have.

Sandtrap, what would you do in this situation: You are a new coach who needs to overhaul the roster. However, it is the beginning of an uncapped year so there are fewer young free agents on the market. You also do not have your full number of draft picks.

What you would do is bring in many older players who might fit your system. If some of them stick, then you've found contributors. If they are too ancient to be capable, you would cut them.

The fact is that if you look closely you will see that Shanahan is trying to get younger but lacks significant resources for doing so.

We will have several unique formations this year in addition to the 10 WR offense, we will have a 5 RB set and then the infamous 4 TE formation. There will be a lot of creativity this season.

I think this may also be Allen doing Galloway a favor. "Bruce, let me come to camp and show that I still have something to offer so some other team might want to pick me up after seeing that I can still play" "Sure Joey, why not? No harm done here"

Seven years ago, it would have been a great move! :D

Even through 2007, he's been a solid WR...missed games last two years but he could be a solid contributor if healthy. He could out-produce Malcolm Kelly.

We picked up Bobby Wade too. Interesting...

Well my mother passed away about 10 years ago, but she would still probably get more playing time then Kemoeatu.

But the Galloway signing is not neccesarily a bad thing. There is that connection between Allen and JG in Tampa. And one could easily argue that Galloway semi-resurrected his career there.

I honestly think this is an insult to Rosenhaus and TO. Owens has made it clear he wants to be a Redskin, and they have basically ignored all his advances. Then went on to sign less talented players.

A good dose of reality for TO will be good for him. It is not a insult, it is reality that the NFL teams are not interested in him for what he is asking for in salary.
On NFL network last night they were talking about a good possibility the door of opportunity in the NFL for TO might be closing or is now closed. I hear he is balking at playing for the NFL minimum. He still has a huge ego where $850k is chump change for him and he will not play for that. Rosenhaus and TO have to gamble on taking what is offered now, or wait until a team suffers an injury and is desperate and might pay more.

On the topic of the Galloway signing. Yes he is old, but the guy is still fast. He fits the mold of the smaller speed receiver that McNabb has had success with the Eagles.
I am not so convinced that Thomas and Kelly are sure things to make on this team. Yes they have skills but they are serious underachievers. The signing of so many receivers is sending a message we are not standing by waiting for these guys to blossom. Their time to make it or show they belong is running out. We cannot continue to waste roster spots for guys that are not producing.

well he did try to poison the locker rooms in Philly and Dallas... now we just need him to sign with NYG and make Eli cry like he did when he wasn't drafted by his team of choice.

Off the record, I think its a shame that a talented NFL receiver like Owens has let his personal ego get to the point where teams wont sign him because of it. If he wasn't such an ass he'd have any team in the NFL begging him to sign with them...
