Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
I agree. While JR was a bust, it was a contract and they both agreed to it. Russell was willing to fulfill his end and be their QB (although not a good one). The Raiders need to honor their end of the deal.
I also think the problem with NFL contracts is they are never what they appear to be. If a player isn't performing, the team can cut him and not pay the future years. Then, if a player out performs his contract and holds out for more money, all you hear is how he signed the contract and should honor it.
I hate that, look at Chris Johnson he needs to get paid somehow incentive based or something but Tenn. are a bunch of tight asses. I hope JaMarcus doesnt have to pay shit back. |
Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
Maybe the first time he left because of imminent talent deficit but the second time I really think pulling that team through the Sean Taylor tragedy took a lot out of him on personal level. Sean was his first pick with the team for his second go round, Gibbs tried so hard to help Sean turn things around in his life, and see all that work end the way that it did I think coming back for another year would have been too much, I mean to see a career and a life end like that when so much progress had been made has to be disheartening and then to be the guy that a team looks to for guidance after the situation that took a toll....off topic I know but I don't fault Gibbs for leaving the second time and I think he earned his money.
I agree. Joe Gibbs doesn't need to pay back anything. He earned every cent he ever made with the Redskins. The man wasn't perfect but he was the best thing this franchise ever had. |
Hey, I think a lot of players, and coaches, should be paying money back to the owners if they didn't at least try their best on the field. Even Coach Gibbs should have given Danny some of his salary back because he left (both times) when he saw the talent level drying up. Vinny Cerrato should have given all his money back! Ditto for Zorn.

Doesn't Davis still owe Shanahan money?
Yeah, although Probably too late to sue. I can't believe he didn't even try to get that money. I saw that on the nfl.com "In His Own Words" video (which was great btw.) For those that don't know, Davis told Shanahan that when he left he could go anywhere but to Denver and he'd still pay him the money he owed him. |
Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
maybe shanahan saw it as monkey's paw money

How do you know those guys werent trying their best? I suspect they were even though they didnt get the results wanted. |
Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
What I love most is the owner believes in contracts when it benifits him but chooses to over look it when it doesn't.
I can see Davis now "hey the contract says you'd work for 6 yrs at 1 mill a yr, I don't care if you think you deserve more." or "hey we paid you a ton of money and got little reward, I don't care what the contract says you didn't earn it." |
Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
Here's hoping that a scenario directly parallel to this one in Oakland does not play itself out in Washington with Albert Haynesworth as the central figure...
Some of the elements are in place: 1. Lots of money paid up front as guaranteed $$$ to player. 2. Player seems not overly dedicated to physical fitness/weight control. 3. First year results less than stellar... |
Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
Al Davis done lost his f'ing mind a long time. Nothing he Raiders do surprises me...if he said I'm moving the Raiders to the Philippines tomorrow I wouldn't be shocked.
Everyone knew he was over paying for mediocre talent and I remember a story about one of the coach discouraging him from drafting Russell. Pay the man, and cut you losses Al, lord knows you ain't never gonna win in court. |

Saying Jamarcus Russell's results were "less than stellar" is way overselling what he "accomplished". And with AH, we got exactly what realistic people expected, a few injury games. but also a force in the middle when he played. If someone expected more, than they were looking at a crazy contract and putting crazy expectations on, not what this guy could legitimately bring to the team and set expectations appropriately. |
Don't the raiders try to get their money back from everyone?
I was thinking the same thing. WTF is their deal? They don't want to pay coaches and now this?? They just seem bitter about paying the guy cause he flat out sucks. |
Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
I personally don't see why the team should get it since they signed a contract, Big Al should have to abide by the contract also. However it would be sweet for the courts or NFL to force Russell to give back the money then force Big Al to give the money to all the fans who purchased Sun. ticket because for several yrs now he's been ripping them off giving them a lousy team on the field. The fans should be reimbursed. ;)

Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
the only thing I feel they should change about this structure is the rookie salaries...other than that perhaps some people just need to evaluate talent and work ethic better. agree?

Loloolllolollllolllolololo Purple Drank!
JaMarcus Russell arrested for possession of codeine syrup - ESPN |
Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
This guy is an idiot. But yes, purple drank is a problem which is only popularized by rappers.
Lil Wayne, for example, doesnt drink alcohol because he thinks its bad but regularly drinks codeine based drinks. Stuff is so strong you have to have several cups in ones when drinking. It burns through them. |
Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
HELL YAH....I got to get me some of that!!
|
Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
No wonder the dude can't break down an NFL defense!
He probably saw like 37 cornerbacks on every play and was wishing there was a couch in the backfield so he could chill out after every seven step drop. |
Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
Is there anyone more done than this guy?
|
Re: Raiders Want Their Money Back from Russell
I have to admit to having always wanted to try sizzurp. I guess I'm just running with the wrong crowd for that though.

Never say never, all it takes is one guy to feel he can make him a star...though I'd say he's close to done at this point |

I got no problem with the sizzurp, unless, that is, you have a job. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SMFzLR_Ta0]YouTube - Three 6 Mafia Feat. UGK & Project Pat - Sippin' On Some Syrup (HQ / Dirty)[/ame] I HATE 3 6 Mafia for the record. |
