It's always interesting to catch wind of some of the stuff that doesn't end up happening, and doesn't end up making it to the rumor mill too. Things that make you go hmmmm

I have a feeling over the next few days this thread is going to get a lot busier. I hope Big Silverback is one of them.

I am a tiny bit disappointed in that I thought he would sign today, but, I hope he signs soon. I would imagine that in the next 2-3 days the 1st round picks would start signing quickly.

I agree NYC. TW gets it done in the next 24 hours.

Do we practice tommorow? Or do they sctually hit the fields on Friay?

Got the answer to my own question there and if anyone else wondered.. we start practice tommorow morning, Can't wait for this season! Hell I can't wait for the start of every season.

Raiders got pick #8 signed (with a reasonable number)

Adam_Schefter

Numbers are in: Raiders first-round pick Rolando McClain signed a 5-year, $40 million contract that includes $23 million guaranteed. 8 minutes ago via UberTwitter

I still think TW is somewhere in the 5yr - 62 mill with 33 mil guaranteed range. I just want to see this deal get done. I also wonder how much (if at all) the fact that one agency is handling 3 of the top 4 picks is slowing things down.

Hopefully Rolondo McLain will get the ball rolling here a little bit. I'd really like to have Trent in by the weekend.

Man that's crazy total money for the 25th overall pick. Was it that big last year? And I agree on the rims on the hooptie comment. At least the hooptie has potential though right? At least it's not a hooptie that was fat and lazy and the first overall pick, and that hooptie got 39 mil invested in it and it still turned out to be a piece of shit?

Have to remember though that it's a first round QB so it's not exactly unusual for it to be high.

Redskins reach deal with Trent Williams
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 30, 2010 6:12 AM ET
We noted Thursday night that the Redskins could reach an agreement first-round draft pick Trent Williams before sunrise Friday, and that's exactly what happened.

Agent Vincent Taylor, who negotiated the contract along with Ben Dogra, told Jason Reid of the Washington Post that the deal is done and will be signed in time for Williams to practice today.

Yeah, I don't get it...giving these guys who haven't played a down in the NFL this kind of money is just the height of stupidity. The system the NBA has in place works pretty well and hopefully the NFL makes a systemic effort to impose some kind of rookie wage scale that makes more sense.

After the whole JaMarcus fiasco, teams should be scare shitless about giving an unproven rookie 50-60 mil guaranteed.

Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings

I agree that this whole rookie pay scale is ridiculous. $50 million guaranteed for Sam Bradford, who hasn't played a single down yet in the NFL, and only played 2 games this past year in college. We need the NBA rookie pay scale, because every year this just gets more and more ridiculous. If I'm not mistaken, Trent Williams at number 4 got about the exact same deal that JaMarcus Russell at number 1 overall got 3 years ago. Not saying that Trent will end up like him.

yeah no s, espescially a qb with a shitty shoulder, but with the new cba coming you had to figure his guaranteed money would be higher than stafford who had 41 somthing, but 50 is just a joke. it will be interesting to see what the rokie pay scale will be, i imagine the guaranteed money will max out some whee around 20 mil which is still crazy high considering they have never played a down of football in the nfl

Yes, they need to get the rookie payscale in place.

BUT our problem is the price tag for us to retain Donovan just went up. His agent alluded to the contract on RI in an article today. Not for just us BTW but also for the Pats- Brady and Colts-Manning.

Good point. Although it is more of an immediate problem for the Colts and Pats. Especially the Pats, since they don't like to pay their players. I think the Colts will do anything to keep Manning happy, whereas I can see Darth Hoody believing he can win without Brady. Given that BA has done a fair job with contracts, let's see how he works this one out with McNabb.

This is one more example of why a rookie pay scale needs to be in place.
Making a Rookie the highest paid safety in NFL history is one of the dumbest things I think I have ever heard. He may be the next Sean Taylor or Ed Reed but why the hell do you have to pay him more than any of those 2 ever made? Absolutely pathetic that this has not been taken care of yet.

Riduculous to pay a rookie safety 60 million dollars.

This is a a reason for a rookie salery cap right here.....

Jason Pierre-Paul (NYG)...#15 pick, 2 yearts Jr College and 7 games at South Florida....20 millon over 5 years , 11 million guarantied .I love the Giants ...but this is stupid especialy when we had other needs....like MLber.

Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings

All but approx.25% of the first round class has been signed to HUGE dollars, I think I counted there are only 8 as of today out of the 1st round that still have to be signed.

I can see a lockout coming. To much cash flow going out to these unproven kids, the standard has to change.

Alright then Mr.SUH... you have not played a damn down but lets pay your ass 100mill with 56 Mil gaurenteed. This makes a hell of alot of sense.

Skins.. you are right as others on the board including myself and Giantone have pointed out paying this kind of cash to unproven players in the NFL is going to lead to an owner's lockout IF they do not put a rookie payscale into the next CBA. This year the contracts are way out of control and are pushing into the RIDONKULOUS category

With out a rookie payscale in place the future of the NFL in genaral is going to be in doubt. The agents basically raise the bar for the top 10 rookies by 18% a year. In ten years a guy coming out and being drafted in the top 10 are going to be the top paid players at thier position without even playing a down. Hell they already are now. Which to me and I am sure to anyone but the players making the money is ludicris.

I just can't see how the game would be able to survive the increase in rookie contracts year after year. Yes the NFL is a cash cow, but let's give that cash to the guys who deserve it not the 50% chance of a nonimpact player guys or guys who have never played at the NFL level.

Not to mention how having a top 5 pick in the NFL draft can really hinder your franchise if you miss on a player, there are less trades in the top 5 because teams are very weary of taking on astronomical salaries for rookies, and teams are out a big chink of change as well.

Alualu agrees to terms with Jags

Posted by Mike Florio on August 1, 2010 10:40 PM ET
In late April, Tyson Alualu became a surprise choice of the Jaguars with the tenth overall pick in the draft. On the first day of August, Alualu is a big step closer to officially joining the team.

The Jags have announced that Alualu has agreed to terms, according to various media outlets reporting the fact of the announcement, which does not yet appear on the team's website.

Alualu's agreement leaves only two unsigned picks in the top ten: Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh (No. 2) and Bills running back C.J. Spiller (No. 9).

UPDATE: Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union reports that Alualu has yet to accept the team's current offer.

Close but apparently not done yet:
