Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
Yeah it's a total non-issue in terms of how it will affect the W/L column. But it is kind of funny.
In most cases, rookies should just go along to get along, and deal with the traditions. But in this case, Roy is the guy he's in direct competition with. Roy probably shouldn't be making Dez do anything, because now if Dez takes his job, Roy will look like the biggest jackass ever. If I were Dez and saw that I was named the starter on the depth chart, I'd be rubbing it in Roy's face so hard. That's what I hope happens. Roy Williams ain't shit. He shouldn't be asking anyone to carry anything, rookie or not. What a bozo. |
Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
MonkFan nailed this...
This is a lack of humility thing. Anyone not willing to lower their ego a bit for the sake of the team is likely to be prideful. What does that mean?....me first, team second. Does this affect ability...no...but it does affect team cohesion and trust...yes. This issue sounds pretty familiar to Skins fans.
Dude we are talking about Roy Williams wanting him to carry his pads not Emmit Smith or Troy Aikman. I'm guessing most players on Dallas agree with him for not wanting to play along with his games. |
Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
Well sandtrap I can tell you that if this were a Redskins player this thread would be up to page 35 by now filled with posts of he's an idiot and he needs to be cut. I don't think this is a serious issue but it can be. If he produces then nobody gives a shyt, but if he has an issue then you will see this again. Just saying. But my feelings on teh refusal are still the same. Yes you are there to play football and to win games but don't take yourself so seriously. If it were something like "pay this $10,000 tab Rook" or "Yeah I stabbed his ass!, rookie should've gotten out of the chair so I could get a shape up" then I can understand. But bitching about carrying pads and masking it with the whole I'm here to do business thing..... that's bs to me. That's just me. But like I said before, I could care less what goes on in Texas. F that bastard and that ugly ass star!
You're actually alright with me though, besides the fact that you're a dirty worthless Cowboy fan.
Well, to be truthful, Bryant should have just carried the pads. It seems trivial compared to the media consequences. But then again, what would that leave us to talk about? |

It doesn't matter who it is...if you are a rookie...you are expected to do what all rookies do...regardless if you are a first rounder or undrafted. If a vet of any caliber asks you to carry your pads...you respond with...can I carry your helmet too? Humility is what builds trust, pride in oneself does not. And yeah...maybe its a stretch at this point because it was just a microscopic little thing not worth reporting yet...but my point is about "attitude". Hopefully this small glimpse of this guy festers into overbearing arrogance that we are all so familiar with when it comes to Cowboys wide receivers. Just more reason to hate them. |
Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
I dont think its a big deal, just shows the character of Dez Bryant. The guy obviously isnt humble at all. It doesnt matter who asks him to do it, as long as he is a rookie he should just do it. Its not like he was being publicly hazed or humiliated.
If he performs, then it might not hurt the team, but this move is definitely something TO or some other self-serving diva would do. |

Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
This is a non-story and is really about Dez Bryant dissing Roy Williams, the guy he was drafted to supplant, and less about him being a diva. I have to believe it Michael Irvin asked the kid to carry his pads he would have done it.

Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
I hope he gets his ass duct taped to the goal post today.

Point taken. I'd tell...useless RW to kiss my ass to. And it can't be a very good secret who's job is on the line with DB in camp? |
Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
Good for Dez!
Hazing can get out of control and bottom line it is disrespectful. Calling hazing a tradition is gives the word 'tradition' a bad name. Good for Dez to not put up with it. HTTR |

Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
Not sure I would really call carrying someone's pads "hazing".
|
Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
It's stupid. You're a rookie. It doesn't mean you are anyones b****. It means that you have an attitude problem. I'm glad, more reason to hate the Cowboys, as if we needed anymore ammunition.

Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
Good for Dez, I hope when they tell him to run route-xyz he decides to run route-zyx because he was brought in to run the best route.
Any trouble in cowgirl-land, minor or not, is good news to me. You've been blessed with a mild off-season. Is this a deeper indicator of Bryant's personality and future behavior or is it an isolated, minor incident, we'll see? To saden's point, when it's crunch time and dall-ass needs a play, will there be a "miscommunication" between Byrant and Homo and the girls sitting home in Jan. Or will there be a problem because Witten is getting more touches and Bryant pulls himself out of the game to pout, again only time will tell. |

Agreed. Whether it would have been Irvin, or Parcells, or the others people have suggested, I agree that Bryant probably would have obliged. The fact is that these two are in competition, and I think it's very possible that Bryant got a vibe that Williams was making the hazing a little personal, which would piss anyone off. |
Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
I actually like a little cockiness in an athlete like this. I would have said, from what i hear, Roy needs to carry my pads. And then i would have smiled, and said, i'm just playing.

Which makes my first point. The man can't humble himself and take it like a champ and have some fun with it. He's taking it as this guy isn't going to get the best of me when what Williams is doing has nothing to do with their roster spots. It has to do with him being a rookie, and Roy Williams being a vet as a WR in the NFL as a Dallas Cowboy. |
Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
It's kinda hilarious when you think about it. They're both already in each other's heads. I think they're both to blame.

Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
Either way. If we can turn up the heat on them, good. Tell everyone you know that Dez Bryant is a malcontent. We can increase the demand for more more attention being put on Dallas, and that (non-situation).
|
Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
There's always a cut off as to what you're willing to do but holding pads isn't one of them. In any case, this says to me Dez Bryant doesn't know how to pick his battles. I wish the Cowboys the worst of luck... preferably a zero win season.

well considering that he's going to take williams' job i don't blame him. williams had like thirty some catches and made like 8 million. what a joke. that is called stealing. williams just needs to worry about not getting cut. soon williams will be carrying bryant's pads. lol. |
if tony romo told him to do it then he should do it. but roy williams?????
That's exactly my thing. Roy should have shut his mouth and known his place on the team - which is a tenuous place at best. Coming from Romo, or Felix Jones, or Jason Witten, this would have been totally acceptable. But wouldn't it be pretty ridiculous for Stephon Heyer to make Trent Williams carry his pads? I don't care if he's a rookie or not, if you don't have the standing on the team, then don't make him carry your shit. |

But when he refuses to carry shoulder pads for a vet WR whose only claim to fame is that he couldn’t catch water if he fell out of a friggin boat, THAT’S CONTREVERSY!? LaVar talked about him at great length today on 106 the fan. They all came to virtually the same conclusion. |
Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol
The real story will be when Roy Williams whips out his dirty old jock strap after practice one day and tells Dez to carry it and Dez slugs him in the mouth and beats his ass, and then all the vets turn on Dez for not following the hazing tradition, thus alienating him from the rest of the squad before training camp is even over.

After two days of following this, I have decided that I think this is just awesome!
It forces the veteran leaders on the Cowboys to address it. Period! Management will just want it to go away, but those bitches have to address it. The revelation is going to be that the veteran leaders on the Cowboys are..... deep down..... a bunch of Mega Vaginas. |
if tony romo told him to do it then he should do it. but roy williams?????
Talent has nothing to do with it. Williams had to carry some failed Lions WRs' pads when he was a rookie and so should Bryant. It's about seniority, vets vs. rookies...Dez is going to bring something more severe on himself and I'll laugh the whole time. I hope he gets hung from a goalpost and gets footballs chucked at him. Then the team takes him out to dinner and leaves him with the bill for 50 guys. That's life as a rookie. Even Orakpo went through it. Bryant is looking like an already-spoiled, arrogant diva WR. He's representing the #88 well. |
