"Other" Rex?
I guess my eyes are playin' tricks on me tonight.
I don't see where I have "other" rex in the post.

What's this related too?

Oh...and you say that Rex Ryan, won't be bringin' the house....
You sure about that?

Cause it didn't look like the Ravens were thinking it was just a "preseason" game the other night. (and Rex Ryan likes to blitz that jets D,so I wouldn't make any wagers on that 12th man)

I will say.. I hope you're right.

Ok this is not good new at all, but at the same time it isn't surprising that he's injured, cause he always gets injured.

It's not more complicated than that.

Instead of talking to your neighbor in your driveway, think of it as talking to 300 neighbors in your driveway. Except you're all talking at one time, and can hear everyone perfectly clearly.

Someone didn't tell Rex that when they played the Giants. Just ask Eli about those stiches. He hit his head on the facemask of a SAFETY.

Anytime I see a DB in the backfield, the first thing I think of is "it's a blitz".

It would if we got an extra pick thrown in. AH for Clayton is rather one sided on face value. We really need to get back some picks.

I just checked the weather and the sky is NOT falling.. Sure, it would be nice if D-Mac was playing in this game but it's preseason and therefore meaningless and since (as some have said) he's always hurt it's good to get Rex some time with the starters. Nudge me in September.
Apparently he can't be placed on the PUP list, since he'd have to be injured BEFORE training camp to do this. IR is still possible I suppose. Sucks, I had hopes for him, but now there's pretty much little to no justification for him to be on our roster. If he is, then Shanahan would violate all his rules of a player proving himself by playing in practice. Banks, Armstrong and even Galloway I guess have shown more than Kelly.

Too bad, MK hurt his hamstring at McNabb's camp. The question will always be - did McNabb work his receivers too hard at "Hell week"?
I think the obvious answer is no. It's MK we're talking about. He's the only one that got hurt and he basically admitted to not warming up properly.
I guess you guys didn't the Theismannesqu take down of McNabb on his "intentional grounding"call...

I swear I saw his left leg get caught on the ground and bent backwords as the big guy fell on him.
I'm amazed honestly that he's not done for the season or career. Cause what I witnessed, was the Theismann break that ended his career. Not a pretty site.

Everyone in this forum, should be and feel relieved imo...
Cause he should be wearing a cast instead of walking boot.
Mcnabb is very lucky,we don't play on turf or he was playing at Veterans stadium on that tackle.

I am relieved Shanny is doing this.
And I think a lot of good can come out of Rex starting.

#1)With Mcnabbs previous injury history of missing games, this will allow us to see how good this offense can be run with Grossman and the 1st team on the field.(O-line,Wr's,etc) with grossman at the helm instead of the "Route 66" Rex got against the Ravens.

#2)Rex is not nearly as cool and poised in the Pocket as Mcnabb,so we will get a good look at how the O-line can look. Not to mention McNabbs mobility even at his age is still better than grossman,so we will get to really see how Trent Williams can block the blindside of grossman without the presence of McNabb stepping up in the pocket with his pocket prowness. This game will be a great litmus test for trent Williams and the others imo...

#3)We will get to see which WR's can step up this game with Rex in the game. Who has the consistency to play well with mcnabb or without.

Can Armstrong continue his performance thus far with Rex?
Can Moss adapt to Rex?
How will Cooley or Davis fair with Rex?

Will the jets Defense respect our passing game with Rex or clog the LOS like the ravens did when they were getting burned?

Either way...Rex Ryan is going to be bringin' the House and we don't need McNabb cutting his forehead open and bleeding all over the field the way Eli did against them.

I'm not sure sitting Mcnabb out this game without an injury would be a bad idea, with Rex Ryan and the jets defensive tendencies to blitz everyone.

Lets sit mcnabb this game...run him for 1 qtr against Arizone if he's close to 100% and prepare for Dallas!

Maybe 2 Qtr's if the line is playing great against Arizona.

That's how I see things anyways.
I know the play you are talking about and when I was watching it I cringed. Totally could have been way worst, I think LJ missed his block on that one.

Re: McNabb out for the Jets

I think McNabb being out makes this preseason game a little more interesting from the evaluating standpoint. Is Armstrong that good or does he just have a special chemistry with McNabb? Will Jets bring the house more often then they normally do forcing our WR's to get separation and make plays one-on-one with McNabb being out? If so, how do the young RB's do in pass protection? How will the OL pass protection be without McNabb's playaction threat being there?

hail_2_da_skins 08-25-2010 11:01 AM

Re: McNabb out for the Jets

Having McNabb sit out the Jet game may be a blessing in disguise. There is no need to get McNabb banged up against the Jets pressure defense. We know what he is capable of. This will be a good test for the offensive line, running backs and receivers. With Rex Grossman we will find out how well the offensive line is really playing. I'm more concerned about the loss of Kareem Moore. He is the only true free safety on the roster. Doughty and Horton are nice short term replacements but I thought Landry and Moore was something special.

Now that is too funny coming from a fan of a team that has the OLDEST ROSTER in the entire league. And signed and traded for players this off season all over the age of 30.

You wanna see ancient? Look no further than the Redskins backfield.

Dang....

I was one of the ones who was worried about McNabb's injury history when we first traded for him. But i think him getting injured in preseason is a good thing. I honestly dont think he will play in every game this year, so giving Grossman reps with the frist teamers in preseason is important.

Also I bet this puts a little more pressure on Trent Williams to work even harder and prove he can protect McNabb and be relied on.

What the heck are you talking about? He made reference to the age of the Cowboys Offensive line.

I made reference to the age of the entire Redskins roster.

I have no idea where you are coming from.

I don't think that is a good thing. Donovan has been inconsistent in both camp and now the preseason games. I for one would have liked for him to at least get a quarter in against the Cards. I would like to see him get into a rhythm again in a game type situation before the real deal starts.

Why would it be a good thing? You could look at it from both angles. Yeah, better he gets injured now than in the regular season is your line of thought. Thing is if he got hurt in a preseason game, what makes you think he won't get hurt often in the regular season, when the games count for something?

I think that they just don't want him to Malcolm Kelly it. I assume he'll be practicing soon enough but they won't risk it, but I have some of those concerns as well.

GusFrerotte 08-25-2010 07:23 PM

Re: McNabb out for the Jets

Yeah, I mean I understand why they are doing it, a sprain is a sprain, but he hasn't been so sharp this preseason. In camp most of our fellow Warpath buds that actually watched camp said he was underthrowing guys often. That in itself isn't so bad since he looked crisp againt the Bills, but then he had many awkward balls against the Ravens. I know it was the Ravens D, but still. You need him to get into a groove come Sept 12th, preferably in a game type environment.

tryfuhl 08-25-2010 07:33 PM

Re: McNabb out for the Jets

Yeah a few more reps would help.

Maybe an actual gameplan as well. Unfortunately Grossman will see the majority of the benefit of that, but that may help us later down the line.

McNabb has frequently underthrown, mistimed, etc especially on mid-range passes for much of his career though. What surprised me was the underthrow on Armstrong.. I know sometimes he'd get out the ball late to D-Jack but it wasn't usually underthrown from what I remember.

GusFrerotte 08-25-2010 07:41 PM

Re: McNabb out for the Jets

To me it is all about the reps. Yeah they go back to practice after the Cards, but that isn't a game situation. It will be embarrasing to have Donovan look rusty against the Boys on Sunday Night Football and Romo win.

As much of what you say is true, there something you have to think about.

Mcnabb has played NFL football now going on 12 years....12 years. Yes,the terminology isn't identical to what the eagles ran,but much of it is very simular if not some the same in some aspects.

Think about this for a second? Grossman probably knows this offense twice as better as mcnabb. (since coming over from kyle shanahan and the texans)

Who's looked better out there thus far?

Mcnabb has seen live action for over a decade. He knows the speed of the game and he knows how to play good football. He's not perfect, but the guy gets it done.

He can learn quite a bit, just from going through the motions...

Think I'm wrong? Don't believe me?
How much of a struggle did brett favre have last season in Minny?
See what I'm saying..

Are we going to be perfectly smooth..Probably not.
can you promise me that if mcNabb played the Jets and cardinals all game..4 qtrs, that we would be perfect?
No..ya can't.

Besides...I would rather have a 6-time pro bowler learning on the job as the season is underway...

Than a 6-time pro bowler in a cast or wrapped from his torn ACL on left knee or leg, learning the offense as the season goes on from the bench. (because we just had to have him in there for 2 meaningless pre season games)

GusFrerotte 08-25-2010 09:04 PM

Re: McNabb out for the Jets

I just want Donovan to shake the rust off, nothing more. I don't doubt he has grasped the offense or the mechanics. Shoot he has always had the mechanics down, he just looks out of sync. You want him both healthy and tuned up for Sept 12th.
