If I was a destructive type person, I'd be destroying my room right now. Another season over, another season where barely the first week gets by and I already know VT is stuck for another year of hovering around the top 15 but they will not be in contention for a title.
It's painful for me to watch Kellen Moore drive his team down the field in about a minute to score a game winning touchdown with no timeouts, then when the Hokies have the same opportunity it's long failed bombs and incomplete passes. I'll just let the smilies express the frustration I can't put into words right now. :soapbox::spank::(:censored::madani::doh::frusty::cussing::rant::insane::banghead: |
Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
Eh, only one tam can win the national title. Tech is still going to have a Bowl season. For only returning 4 startes on defense they played well. Boise State is a good squad and we almost had them by the nuts.Beamer will get his national title. Either that or he will go down as the best coach to not get one.
The season is not shot anything can happen. |
Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
is anyone really surprised that we blew another early season game? tech had me fooled for a minute, but the second that we didnt convert that 3rd down and had to punt to give boise the ball back, boise became the heavy, and i mean extremely heavy favorite. pissed off that this continues to happen. late game self-destruction.

I definitely admire the fact that VT isn't like the pretentious bowl teams that line up the easiest possible schedule to get to a good bowl game, but I'm tired of always going into October with a loss to a bowl team already on our record. It's easier to accept it when you play a great team and once they go up, they stay up and you already know once the game is over they'll come back and eventually finish with a decent record on the season, but it's just harder to watch the up and down kinda game we just witnessed, and you get so paralyzing and tantalyzing close to actually beating a great team only to get let down in the end again. In the end VT will probably end up with another 10 win season and maybe another bowl game win, but it sucks knowing that first loss will always mean they'll never be mentioned amongst the top teams in college football that year. |
Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
agreed. id love to see how we would do against the big boys mid season rather than the first game of the year. we really suck or lose early on (alabama, ECU, LSU, USC...) all since 2004.
also, i was reading on another message board but it made me think...how similar does the ending of this game feel to the BC loss with matt ryan a few years back in blacksburg? blowing a late lead like that to a top 5 team. hurts. i was at that game. |

Instead, you go on Twitter and you find people that are putting down Boise State by saying they just beat a team that consistently chokes against bowl teams. About VT's 1-27 record (or something like that) against top 5 teams. About mentioning last year losing to 'Bama, the year before that to ECU, and the year before that LSU. Can't forget the BC game either against Matt Ryan. |
Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
I never understood playing 15 yards off the WR during the 2 minute drill. Some people call it the prevent D. I call it the prevent victory D.

Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
I'll probably get murdered for this but Tech's problem is that their in-game coaching is embarrassing. Bud Foster must go to sleep at night wondering what the hell the rest of the coaching staff was thinking. He seems to be the only one who can actually coach during the game. Everyone else is seriously a shit storm. Their offensive playcalling is pathetic. Their decision making as a team is just stupid. Why the hell they throw on 3 and 8 25 yards down field is mind blowing. Then when they get the ball back there is no attempt to work their way down the field (even though they have two timeouts and decent field position.) They just send everyone on fly patterns and posts. In the NFL Beamer would get fired for that crap.
|
Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
Its not that VT always looses these big games in the begining of the season they loose them any time they are played. I like Beamer but he and his team choke away all these games and that's why they have that 1/27 record. Beamer would not even be a house hold name without MIchael Vick and just a little above average college coach.

Yeah I'm thankful I'm not a Va Tech fan. Every year they are in the preseason discussion as a title contender and they ALWAYS disappoint. What a great game that was last night. I don't see how Boise doesn't run the table now. |

Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
Not exactly...SEC is a great conference no doubt, but this aura of invincibility that it has acquired over the last 5 years is laughable. Jacksonville State comes to mind against a solid SEC team this past weekend. Right now Boise State could beat every SEC team, Alabama is one squad where they would have the most problem. But I remember when Utah...yes Utah rolled up Bama like a carpet year b4 last at the Sugar Bowl. Boise State was sloppy againt Tech yesterday as well...there gonna be a well oiled machine by the end of year...ask a very very good Oklahoma team several years ago how Boise State plays in Bowls...An assumption like any SEC team beating Boise State right now is humerous to say the least

Haha..exactly. Like how many times has Boise been written off by all the experts and big programs and they just continue to whoop ass and take names. This team is well coached and can play ball with the best of them, ask Tech. Truth is they could have and should have beaten Tech by a wider margin. I don't see any SEC team rolling against Boise State, but I guess that's why they play the game. |

If he coached at any other major school either he or Stinespring would've been gone by now. This is nothing new. You can see there is very little creativity in the VT offense and they have tremendous athletes. They're just not being coached properly in the passing game at all.

4 straight BCS national titles says you're wrong. The SEC is the bell cow of college football until someone else proves otherwise. Pretty hard to make a legit argument to the contrary, especially with all the shuffling going on the Big 10 and Big 12. Or is the Big 12 and Big 10? Lol. |

Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
Tyrod Taylor is a really good -- probably top 5 -- college quarterback with the skill set required of NFL quarterbacks. But even though VT runs a lot of pro style stuff, he plays a decidedly college game out there.
Which is really to the benefit of the Hokies. They should drop him back 45 times a game out there and let him make plays that will win them ball games. He's too good (and too late in his career) to do otherwise. But trying to run behind that OL...I know you have backs you really like but ugh...save that for the games against creampuffs. |

I stated SEC is a great conference and has been for the last 5 years probably the best of the last 5, but Boise State could whip any of those teams this year. Florida and Alabama still class of the league...Questions abound across the other programs. WHen he makes plays in the passing game it's normally by his feet first and the D breaking down. This won't cut it at the next level, and isn't cutting it against solid college teams. He's going through the same career path as Vick, poor coaching at the HS level relying on his physcial skill-set and not teaching him the passing game, to college....again poor coaching, relying on his physical skill-set and not teaching him the passing game to be able to progress successfully to the NFL level. With the talent that comes out of the Hampton Roads area, VT should be able to run a deadly spread offense, problem is if the OC can't coach/teach it and the HC won't fire the OC, then it's same-old, same-old year in and year out. |
Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
Boise St. would be a consistent 5 loss team in the SEC every year. Alabama would plow through them like a knife through warm butter and as far as the game last night, I will say that Va Tech lost it more than Boise St won it. And if Boise St is so good why don't they schedule a top SEC team and play them on the road and not Oregon St. at home? I am sick of hearing about how good Boise St is in a game they had a 17-0 lead in against the choke team of Va Tech. A lucky punt block, a running into the kicker, and a fumble on the QB/C exchange gave Boise St 17 pts. Did their offense really do anything until late 3rd qtr and Va Tech deciding to play the "prevent victory" defense. The only Big Time conference Boise St would run through is the Big East cause that conference is a joke. I still say this if UNC gets all their players back they win the ACC not Va Tech.

They were basically handed 17 points and STILL VT had to come down from that to even make it a game. Had Boise State been down that margain, no way in hell they even come close. It says a lot that VT was even able to come back from that type of momentum swing. |

He has the arm and can make the passes if he gets any time to drop back into the pocket. What I saw Monday night was a QB who had to use his feet or get crushed. If he did not make those plays VT would have been crushed but TT kept them in that game and played a very tough game. 3 years ago and Oklahoma is the king of choking in big games along with Va Tech and Ohio St. Also, Boise St needed some serious luck to pull that off. Like I said put Boise in the SEC and they lose 4-5 games a year. Bama, Fla, LSU, Aub, Ark, UGA all beat Boise especially if Boise comes to their house. I will say it again Va Tech isnt that good. 3rd best team in the ACC at best behind Miami and UNC when they arent suspending ppl. |

lol Boise could easily hang 40 on Florida, LSU, Aub, ?Ark-they always suck?, UGA, SC this year. Bama is legit. SEC is great conference, but Boise could easily hang and beat them this year. LSU was not impressive against UNC. |
Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
Like seriously, I don't watch a ton of college football but I've watched enough of SEC football and Boise over the past three years to know that none of those boys, Bamma included, will not beat Boise by three touches. No effin way!
I guess anything could happen in one game, but this team is legit. I'm not ready to say they are the best team in the country right now, but they are definitely top five. |
