So Ace, do you think Haslett is a better DC than Williams? I've seen Williams maximizing the output of his defensive talent both here and in New Orleans. I have never seen Haslett do the same. I would love to be proven wrong, but I thought that Haslett would be the weak link of our coaching staff the day it was announced.

Three games does not make a season, I got a text prior to the game saying the STL lambs score board was counting down the GB vs lambs I thought to myself there over looking us instead we were over looking them. This game against silly we have a chance to steady the ship & get back to 500 or 0 - 0 call it what you will. Our Coach's have to get the players to play better or we won't get anyone to show up for the 2011 pre-season workouts.

It's difficult for a lot of people to remain focused on the big picture because the team is not losing because of lack of effort. It's an assortment of other things that are easily identifiable, both coaches and players share in the blame.

So far...I would rather have Williams as D-coordinator.

But it's really too early just yet...I thought we did great in Wk-1
But the last 2 weeks have been horrible,so now i just don't know.

This Philly game will be a very good test,because not only are we facing a hot Vick who is very difficult to gameplan against because of his athletic ability and improved passing...but the eagles have very good weapons in Maclin,Jackson,Celek and so on...

Neither Green Bay,the Lions or the Jags have been able to stop or even contain Vick...

This next philly game will tell me a lot about how good haslet is or at least...can be.

I agree with what you had to say, however this is the part that really gets to me (about this whole situation, and not what you had to say). I feel that the team put themselves in a situation where the defense has no talent, because of the change of defensive scheme.

Right now it seems that the only player that has benefited from the 3-4 switch has been Orakpo (and you can add Lorezo Alexander).

In our 4-3 defense we had a really good DE in Carter, and I'm sure Orakpo would be just as (if not more) dominant if they played him at DE. You throw in Haynesworth in shape and playing his natural position (and Golston as the other DT) you have a monster D-Line in our 4-3.

Among LBs, Fletcher was a tackling machine and played the MLB position (in the 4-3) better than many in the league. I just don't feel he is having the same impact. Rocky has been better in the 3-4, but was a pretty good LB in the 4-3. We needed an SLB in the 4-3, and honestly that probably would have been our only major need in defense.

Laron Landry played out of position in our 4-3, and his play now has improved mainly due to that move to SS.

I'm not saying that I want Blache back, but I just feel that the team really shot itself in the foot by moving to the 3-4 when it really wasn't needed. If we had gotten a new DC (Jerry Gray or lure Mike Zimmer from Cincy as it was rumored). Our defense could have picked up where they left off and along the way try to improve on those issues they had, instead we are now learning a brand new scheme.

This reminds me a lot of the team that went 10-6 under Gibbs 2.0 and then for the next season he decided to bring in a brand new offensive system (Saunders) and we went 5-11 or 4-12 the next season. If it ain't broke (or that broke) don't fix it.

Was carter really good as a 4-3 end? yeah i know he got 11 sacks last year but his total tenure here IMO has been quiet and servicable.

I remember for years he would do the same outside rush move on every play becoming a run defense liability but getting his 5-8 sacks a year on a sack starved defense.

i dont think carter is as good as his 11 sacks last year indicate. I think he is a solid player but nothing great.

Other than 2008, he had very solid years in '06, '07, and '09. His best years were clearly '07 and '09. I just don't think you'll see this time of production out of him in this scheme.

In this scheme, he looks lost, but we knew that from his year as a 3-4 linebacker in San Fran.

It never ceases to amaze me how fast so many of you are ready to pack it in, fire the coaches, fire the players, sell your tickets, etc., etc. when things don't go well early in a season. I've seen this reaction for years now no matter who is on the field or who is on the sideline. I share your frustration, I sincerely do. But this season...what the hell did you expect? Instant gratification? New coaches, new schemes, new players. It's a work in progress folks and it isn't going to happen overnight (or this season). Let's just hope that Snyder and Co. show a little more patience and restraint, which I think they will, and allow this whole thing time to gel.

Carter is just average in a 4-3. But he's terrible in a 3-4.

This can't all be put on the defense. Fred Davis got in the end zone for us last year and was one of the few bright spots on a 4-12 team. Where is he? How come KS isn't getting him more involved? As much as I like the how much more aggressive the offense is, they're blowing it by not getting Davis on the field more.

The Rams have a rookie QB and have won like 2 games in two years. Plus their best player got hurt. It's not too much to ask to win that game. I guess that's asking too much. :rolleyes:

Davis is probably our 3rd best receiver after Moss and Cooley, and he's probably more dynamic than Cooley after the catch. How is he not used in the gameplan down the field?

As I said before, I share everyone's frustration and I agree with you in that we damn well should have won a game against a sorry group such as the Rams. My point was that we may have too high of expectations for this team this season and should give it some more time...even when we blow a game that should have been easily won.

Yup. Well put. It takes a while to change the culture of a place. I do think Shanny is a tough enough SOB to clean house, and my hope is Allen keeps Danny in his place. But until this happens, we're just not going to be that good.

Here's some new perspective. I still say "Panic! We stink." But here's some new perspective to consider. Last year, McNabb's Iggles went into Oakland and laid an egg, losing 9-13, and they still made it to the playoffs. Judging from that game, you'd think they stunk. Maybe, the same can be said for what happened yesterday. :food-smil

Yeah let's be positive, you can't predict anything in todays nfl. I think with vick's running around he will run right into our 3-4. And these are very good coaches we have and they must be scrambling to fix this quick GO SKINS!

Eagles, Packers, Colts, Bears next 4. Not looking promising, on a positive note we will have another top 8 draft pick or so this year. We should go defense early in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd/4th depending on McNabb deal, then go offense the rest of the draft. We do not have any players that are good in a 3-4 defense besides Orakpo in the front 7. Maybe McIntosh. We need all new lineman and 2 or 3 backers not to mention a top flight CB. Rogers is gone. I wouldnt mind drafting CB Patterson out of LSU or OLB Von Miller out of T A&M with the 1st pick. The 3rd down conversion rate is killing us.

You are so right. We need to give this thing time. Hopefully each week we can see improvement and next year make a real push.

Its time to panic. Our revamped offensive line seems terrible. Artis Hicks, seems to be offsides every time the game is on the line. Heyer should not be allowed on an NFL field, and I am not sure Hicks should be either. Our receivers are non existent aside from Moss. Our defense has gone from first to worst in one year. Our linebackers seem completely lost along with our d linemen, along with our corner backs. The only thing that is improved is our quarter back play. I feel sorry for McNabb. I also feel sorry for myself, that I may be backing a loser yet again. Yeah, I am panicking.

It's just funny that the guy predicting a 14-2 season is preaching perspective.

Anybody talking about draft picks is such a tool .. come on people we are 1-2 ... don't give up on the season due to about 4 quarters of poor football ... we aren't the lions .. we are not the raiders ... we have talent ... we can change a lot of minds by showing up this weekend .. enough DRAFT PICK talk, makes me sick .. we are all pissed off enough due to yesterday's non-performance, don't make it worse by acting like we need trash bags over our heads at the games ... it's a loss ... it sucked .. move the "F" on

Its hard to show them something in practice if he has to practice with the 3rd team. They need more explosive plays and athletes, he is possibly the best athlete on the team. Start him the next couple games and see what happens.

You are what your record is. And we are a 1 and 2 football team with a hold penalty away from being 0 and 3. Look at our schedule see where we are going to win 6 more games or so, I cant do it. Its being realistic to think that we need at least another good draft before we will be on the right track. T. Williams and Orakpo have us on the right path with getting younger, we need more defensive players that fit in with the 3-4 system.

I agree overall, but remember we lost to detroit, we had a worse record than oakland, and now we lost to the Rams. Hey if they can get their tails in gear then great, but I saw those first 14 points and might possibly have a put a bag over my head. They need to get over themselves and simply play like a blue collar workaholic team. Further if DT can't get on the field its his own d*** fault. Its not like Kyle doesn't want to have an explosive WR so I am sure DT would be on the field if he and mcnabb were lighting it up in practice.

After mid preseason, I said this was a 7-9 team...I said 6-10 last season and was wrong.
The reality is this...our defense is far worse than even I anticipated and we cant run.
This team has forgotten how to win... and the inability of the new coaching staff to put the best talent on the field is unacceptable....why is Haynesworth on the bench with a last ranked defense?...why is DT not on the field as the #2 WR?...why are they rotating Olinemen?....why is Portis sitting when he was averaging 8 yards a carry and showing a good burst in a tight game....why did the coaching staff abandon the run when the defense clearly couldn't stop anything?

This haslett thing is hitting hard way earlier than anticipated...many expected a drop off in defensive performance...but a top 10 defense turning to pure CRAP so quickly is appaling...this oline was bad last year...but we have never had rushing problems this severe...this all just proves one thing....Gibbs was far better than most of us realized.
This is a poor team with a new coaching staff that does not yet know how to put its best players on the field yet.

The first fix to this team is a major overhaul in defensive scheme to go back to a 4-3 hybrid combined with a power rushing hybrid zone blocking scheme.

This radical shift in both cannot occur successfully in one year.
This team is underperforming even the lowest expectations of 7-9.
This is a 6-10 team at best.
Get used to losing....again....
Don't mean to be a downer....just looking at the reality of the situation.
Try to enjoy 1 win per month like last year folks.
