Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
The answer to your question is because Kolb is an unknown. Last week Sam Bradford was certainly not known as a big play quarterback but he was extremely effective against our blitzes because he knew they were coming.

Granted Kolb was effective towards the end but when you have an unknown like Kolb you don't blitz, especially not when you have big play receivers like DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin out there. Did you not notice how they were shutdown? In the end we gave up 12 poins and we won. Much improved over blitzing Bradford all last game and we gave up 30 and we lost.

What happened if we blitzed and he got it out there quick and Jackson beat our secondary for a touchdown? Would you be on here questioning the blitz?

Btw the Skins did blitz 5 on one play, and the result was an incomplete pass. So we did blitz him once. Idk if you've been watching the past two weeks but everybody and their mothers knew Jim Haslett was blitzing and that's why the Texans and Rams were so effective against us. If Kolb did his work this past week I'm sure he was prepared to be heavily blitzed even though he knew he wasn't starting.
Well if Jim Haslett doesn't know how to disguise a blitz then he shouldn't be employed.
relax people .. we won .. D played great .. Rogers #22 dropped another clincher and we left about 21 pts on the field... (Davis overthrow, Armstrong falling down, ETC ETC ETC)

uhh we freaking won .. 2-0 in one thing that matters
If you got about 21 from the miscues, you need to drop it by a touchdown at least. Cooley scored his touchdown on the same drive as the McNabb/Davis miscue.
Well if Jim Haslett doesn't know how to disguise a blitz then he shouldn't be employed.
That's a very simplistic view of it. And if Jim Haslett doesn't know how to disguise a blitz, you are right, I wouldn't want him coaching my team knowing how much he blitzes. But the 3-4 is supposed to be very effective at disguising the blitz because you don't know if it's the LOLB or the ROLB who's coming. You know the blitz is coming, but you don't know where. That's what the 3-4 provides.

Nobody said he has to blitz though. That worked in our favor tonight, because if Kolb expected us to blitz when he went in, well obviously we didn't, and we won because of it.

Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over

I love how people just think crazy blitzing will solve all our woes. Blitzing makes thinks worst if you team D is not playing well as a unit. Ex. Houston game. Sure Kolb isn't playing that great right now, but if blitzes are coming in he has easier quick passes. Also the Philly oline is hurt and not playing well. I think we got pretty good pressure with 4 rushing. Go back and watch the film but there were about 10 more holds on Rack that were never called and Fat Al was actually drawing some double teams.

End result: 12 points. Against one of the better offenses in the NFL, that is a huge success. Our team has improved quite a bit. We would have lost this and the Dallas game last year, and I doubt we would have made the Texans earn a W. Teams rarely go from 4-12 to legitimate contenders overnight. We are taking the right steps.

Now just calm down.

How about our special team "guru" whose units have been far from adequate for the last three years at least.

The OC was kind of foolish too when h called a 60 yd pass on
3rd and 8 in the 4th qtr.

We made a similar play earlier, and I am guessing, either McNabb or KS knew of an Iggles corners tendency to jump the short route on those plays.

Well to honestly think that was his only option on that play is kind of ridiculous. I'm sure he had a secondary option, probably with a shallow to mid type route he could've gone to, and then probably a third option if he needed to check it down, but in the end it was McNabb's decision to go long because he thought he had Armstrong open. I would've preferred to have a deep inside post rather than an straight deep route just to give Armstrong more room to work with but in the end does it matter? We won.
The OC was kind of foolish too when h called a 60 yd pass on

If we're finger pointing at coaches, I'm pointing more at KS than at Haslett. Haslett hasn't been great, but he's making adjustments. Once KS gets off his original script.....well 3 points over 45 min says it all and we saw the same thing against Houston and STL.

I'm still seeing little creativity in the run game when there's so much we could be doing. This ain't Houston, and ain't the AFC South (dome, good weather, good weather, and Tenn). In the NFC East you must be able to run the ball and find many different ways to do it. KS needs to get to adapting or we'll struggle offensively all year.

I get your pain, 100%, trust me I understand what your saying and why your upset with us not blitzing. I believe we didn't do it, because Haslett all week game planed for Vick, and his goal was to preach the defense this week to contain, and said to his guys, "hey guys this week were gonna contain Vick, because if we blitz him we got Vick outracing us with a guy behind him."

Now thats no excuse for his players to all of a sudden forget or just not blitz, but I guess he figured, Kolbs a quick passer, and not a long down field passer. All of our blitzes don't get there fast enough so he'll just get quick passes and big gains on us all day...we'd be working to his advantage, and not ours.

Plus man our defense didn't Break today. We did good, not great, but enough to win. We sure as hell bent, but didn't break, like against Houston or the Rams last week.

Haha, how about the win as a positive? I sometimes feel people want the Skins to lose because it is so easy and almost enjoyable for them to complain and b****.

Obviously our FO is partially to blame for this, as they have made it a favorite DC pastime the last decade. A lot of half-empty glasses in this town, I guess.

I absolutely agree. It seems like the gameplan did not change a bit after Vick was hurt. I did see a couple blitzes towards the end, but not many.

In the end it worked, so who care.

We blitzed the crap out of a rookie QB last week and how did that work out?

DeSean Jackson was held to 3-19, Maclin 1-15.

Mission accomplished.

You are conveniently ignoring CultBrennan's logic(which I agree with) to blindly defend your position.

Haslett didn't change because he wasn't scared about Kolb's deep threat or running game. So he let him dink and dunk all day knowing he didn't have the ability to beat us. Furthermore, he figured blitzing will only provide a quick first option for Kolb. He rather let Kolb sit and try to make a decision, which were nearly game costing at times(Los near pick, etc.). You seriously think Haslett didn't consider blitzing lol? That would be more concerning than the Skins defense, IMO.

I am expecting an ignore of this reply.

The difference is Bradford is better. Kolb stinks and had no confidence. Remember when he first entered the game and dropped the ball? So if they had just immeditely went after him he wouldn't have jhad time to hit no one.

Or let Kolb try to beat us, which he failed to do and shouldnt have even had the chance to throw the last minute hail mary(los).

Look our team held the Eagles to 12 points and shutdown their star wideouts. And we got the W. If anything you should be upset at Los for dropping the pick, some playcalling and McNabb for running out of bounds when he could have pretty much killed the game.

Blitzing is not the only answer. The idiots on TV would like you to believe that, but it's not true.

I agree about Mcnabb but I think he was so focused on getting the 1st down and lost sight of the fact he could have stayed in bounds. And yes the game could have been over if los had held on to the INT.

I wear if Avant had caught that TD pass I would have been throwing up all night
Probably because we didn't want Jackson or Maclin torching us. I thought it was a good game plan on D.
Yep. We won and DeSean Jackson finished with 19 yards; Maclin with 15. This was with McCoy hurt and the Eagles playing from behind since our first drive. The Eagles' RBs accounted for 158 RECEIVING yards and we held them to just 110 rushing yards, thanks mostly to sending Vick to the hospital. Our running game worked though, 169 yards rushing.

How can anyone be unhappy with these facts?

Actually, blitzing when we should have been playing the pass, probably contributed a lot to our losses against Houston and St. Louis. I'm glad Haslett has found some discipline in using the blitz.

why didnt we blitz as much?

imo for all the reasons previously stated as well as the fact that we jumped to an early 14-0 lead and with the running game controling the clock, why go blitz heavy and run the risk of quick scores or getting into a shoot out?

im just guessin thoo, only saw bits and pieces of the game.

Philly was super aggressive in the second half...run blitzes were coming from everywhere. McNabb missed at least 3-4 throws bad and then just completely on the wrong page with guys the other times. He struggled horribly the second half. The playcalling seemed to get very conservative. Lots of boots which were covered 95% time the 2nd half. Adjustments were made by Philly, I think Shanny and Kyle went conservative to protect the lead...which I ok with at the very end of the game, but early/middle of the 3rd? I didnt like that

Also keep in mind, Torain is nowhere near the blocker/QB bodyguard as Portis is.

Another important thing to note: haslett planned the whole week to face vick, and had to adapt his game plan on the fly when kolb came in. Given that I'd say he did a great job, especially considering what we've seen from him the last couple weeks.
