I think people forget how bad Casserly was. Go back and look at the #1 draft choices from 1993-1998. He hit with Champ Bailey, had some success with Kenard Lang, but aside from that Casserly whiffed quite often. And while Gibbs called the shots from the '89 season on, Charlie had a hand in the selection of Bobby Wilson and Desmond Howard too.

He was good with the old Plan B free agents, but his drafts were often horrid.

You can put Norv in there too. He was the one that wanted Shuler. Everyone was to blame including Gibbs who said Howard had "no weaknesses". And Shuler didn't even play in a pro offense in college. Worst pick ever besides Leaf and Russell. Say what you want about Charley but he left Snyder with a playoff team.

You don't know that. Maybe BL has grown up and is actually trying to be a better player and it has nothing to do with what scheme he is in. We all knew he had talent but it seemed he never really tried and I'm guessing thats wht has changed. The whole BL example is kind of getting old because its a poor example at best.

DT is going to a good situation for him. A rebuilding project. If he would've went to NE they would've cut him within 3 weeks.

Perhaps his greatest draft was his last as a GM for Houston in 2006. He netted 4 strong starters (DE Mario Williams, LB DeMeco Ryans, OT Eric Winston, and TE Owen Daniels). He deserves credit for resisting the temptation to draft Reggie Bush or Vince Young over Williams, who clearly turned out to be the best player from that draft.

People really need to stop questioning the coaching decisions of letting players go..
It truly is a crap shoot on what they will do...

Devin Thomas may be great or maybe not....

What we do know is Armstrong is a Player now,making key TD saving gam winners...
And Banks is faster than the Flash and will break a return for a TD that will save our ass at least once this season. You wait!

Thomas will continue his career with Fantasia as he learns the System under John Fox,only to see John Fox fired at the end of the season and having to learn a new system that he may or may not have the time to dedicate himself with...

i like our direction and what Shanny is doing here...

Davis paced the NFC in rushing in 1999 with 1,450 yards. Casserly also drafted future Pro Bowlers in wide receiver Keenan McCardell (12th round, 1991) and tight end Frank Wycheck (sixth round, 1993). During the 1999 off-season, Casserly acquired veteran quarterback Brad Johnson who responded with a Pro Bowl season and then won a super bowl with TB after Snyder got rid of them.
You can find almost any GM has picked poorly in the draft from time to time.
But one thing I can say is Casserly was a million times better than Cerratto .

Point taken on the '06 draft. After calling the shots for 14 drafts between the Redskins and Texans, sooner or later he was going to hit pay dirt. Though I would add that it was actually Texans' owner Bob McNair who made the decision to pass up on Bush and draft Mario. He said he wasn't interested in paying the money that Reggie Bush would command.

Bobby Beathard was the GM in the '87 strike year, not Casserly.

And what happened with all those players acquired from the Saints in '99? Can anyone point to the success of guys like Nate Stimson, Derek Smith, Jeff Hall and Tim Alexander?

Here and there he found some gems, no doubt. But the overall performance says it all -- he was the general manager of two teams that either fell completely flat on its face (the Redskins of 1993 on) or the mediocrity of the Houston Texans.

But yes, I'll concede that he's better than Vinny.

Casserly faded much heat for NOT drafting R Bush, and instead going with Mario Williams. Mario had meaniful contribution much earlier but obviously both picks have worked out well

Again, the decision to draft Mario Williams was Bob McNair's, not Charlie Casserly's. Here's McNair in an interview explaining why they passed up on Reggie Bush:

But yes, I'll concede that he's better than Vinny.[/quote]True, Beathard was still GM in '87, but Casserly did most of the legwork putting together the scab team that went 3-0 during the players' strike. Those games counted in the standings, and helped mightily when the Skins got to host the NFC Championship. Later as GM, his drafting Tre Johnson, Jon Jansen, and Chris Samuels were the kind of interior line selections that the Skins have lacked for the last decade until finally choosing Trent Williams this year. As for his QBs, letting Trent Green depart via free agency was a big mistake, and necessitated trading a 1st and 3rd to get Brad Johnson.

Devin thomas was a baller on madden 11 lol but i know thats a video game ! I just thought he would have shined under shanny! But no worries i have the full trust of this coaching staff. It seems this is the first year since schotenheimer that i could fully trust the coaching staff and front office in their desicions. cutting him may not have been a bad idea. I hope he flourishes in Carolina.
