Huge game for Hall. As much as he can frustrate us, it's so important to have playmakers. You can only bat so many passes down. Not saying I have/had the talent of Hall but in my playing days I was exactly like him. Wasn't the greatest cover corner and could get fooled so I actually rarely started but when we neede to get that turnover I was that guy. But enough about me, so happy about Hall's performance today. The whole D played great

Cornerbacks always get the ladies. :D All the self-confidence that comes with the position would help a man out a lot.

DeAngelo is definitely a Pro Bowl starter at this point... going to give him a couple of more pats on the back for things not INTs...

* 7 tackles today gives him 57 total in 7 games... he had 58 tackles all of last year. ( I know that's not a great sign for him or our defense... let's not dwell on that).

* He had 4 passes defensed today as well... to put in in perspective... he had 9 all of last year according to ESPN. 4 passes defensed AND 4 INTs in a game... one being the game-winning 92-yard TD... has to be one of the best performances by a cornerback in a game EVER.

Representing Chesapeake, VA ... that a boy!

I am baffled that anyone would think that he isn't in the Pro-bowl right now. I would say he is All-Pro.

His tackling this year is very impressive. (He was one of the guys who put out Vick) He made the most key touchdowns in two of our 4 wins.

I didnt get to see the game live, just got finished watching it.I fast forwarded thru a lot of it,but i think it was Halls 2nd int and they immediately went to commercial break and I thought for sure when they came back it would be going to replay and it would be overturned. But the bears didnt even challenge it,it looked like the ball def hit the ground.I havent had time to read thru all the post,so am i alone in thinking this?
But it was still a great game for Hall, props to him

D. Hall should buy a real nice gift for Cutler for single-handedly sending him to the Pro Bowl. I wish we could play the Bears 6 or 7 more times this season.

Cutler is alot dumber than I thought he was:

"The idea of avoiding Hall apparently never crept into Cutler's mind. "No," he said. "Not at all. I've played against him before. There's no reason to shy away from him. I mean that's hard for me to say throwing four picks to the guy, but I still think if we had to play him tomorrow, I'd go after him every time."

You are right. I think 95 could be a good player as well if they just played him more. When does he graduate to starter?
I guess Kemo and Golsten are so incredibly good that they can not be taken out. :cheeky-sm

Yeah, Eddie Royal had a really nice first game for a rookie. And Mike Shanahan can say to Hall that he owned him on that day.

That one handed pick was sick! But it really highlights how bad the Bears offensive line is. Hall plays very aggressive, a team with better pass protection probably could have given the QB more time to pump fake and make Hall bite. Then again, not sure Cutler would have even if he had time

I was totally against bringing Hall in here in 08, he had a bad history w/his teamates dating back to Va. Tech. He's a Hokie & a Skin so once they signed him I of course want him to play well, and he has seemed to mature a bit.

That was an incredible performance by him yesterday. He was tight in coverage on all of those picks. I hope this really improves the D overall as coordinators look to avoid him. Carlos has been playing great all year too.

On a side note, when I look at the individual performances on defense, it seems like several guys are having career years, but what's been the problem in giving up so many yards?

On a side note, when I look at the individual performances on defense, it seems like several guys are having career years, but what's been the problem in giving up so many yards?
Hole in zone type receptions. A lot of throws by quarterbacks are just uncontested throws against where coverage should be, but isn't. It's not a numbers game, we usually have the defense outnumbered both on the pass rush and in coverage, but even if a guy (say, Andre Johnson) runs across the zones of three different players, it's very likely he'll catch a pass without having to go up in traffic.

Also, one fun little fact about Hall's coverage this year: through six games, only 6 passes that targeted him (out of 41 total) fell incomplete. Those four interceptions vs. Chicago very nearly DOUBLED that total of incomplete passes where Hall was the defender.

The biggest reason Hall had been w/o an interception (ignoring Kolb's Hail Mary that should have been knocked to the ground) is because quarterbacks had been picking on him with great precision. Between Romo, Schaub, Bradford, Kolb, Rodgers, and Manning, there just wasn't many passes thrown behind or over receivers that Hall could "go get". With Cutler throwing off his back foot or off balance most of the day, Hall got involved VERY early in the second half, and defensed or intercepted (I think) every pass thrown at him in the second half.

He was the weakpoint of the secondary coming in, and now, it's going to be tougher for coordinators to go after him because he's absolutely going to show up on the film as nosy.

I recall GT, that in your last analysis (Colts) you indicated Hall & Moore bring the same cover skills, that Hall isn't a man cover guy & likes to see the qb. I wasn't referring to Hall as having a career year, though this might turn it around for him.

The soft spots in the zone have seemed too easy to find for opposing qbs. It looked like there was more straight man-man yesterday & the coverage was really good, even when balls were complete. Cutler will throw into tight space, which worked well for us! I look forward to your breakdown of the game.

The thing that worries me about Hall having that type of game against a horrid QB like Cutler and a horrid O-line, is the fact that he may be a little too overconfident now. He may try to gamble with a real QB with a real O-line thinking he's Deion Sanders and get smoked. Hopefully he realizes that was a once in a lifetime opponent.

Well that's what you get with a ballhawk DB. A lot of times these DBs get the INTs because they take a chance to jump a route (very few I would say would get balls thrown right to their hands...well except Rogers).

Sammy was the 1st to do it and one of many reasons why I represent his Avy..

But check out, what he did in the same game he had the 4 INT's...

Nov. 14, 1943

Griffith Stadium - Sammy Baugh put on quite a show, throwing four touchdown passes, intercepting four Detroit passes, getting off an 81-yard punt and recovering a fumble just for good measure, as the Redskins beat the Lions.

Two of his touchdown passes came in the first half as the Redskins built a 21-0 lead. Detroit rallied and trailed just 28-20 in the fourth quarter, but the Redskins woke up and scored two more TD’s to wrap it up.

Sammy was the greatest player of all time imo..not just greatest Skin.

As a matter of fact,he SHOULD be #1 on that NFL Network "100 greatest players" but I'm sure he won't be...

It will be interesting to see what comes of this long term. Will teams now favor Roger's side of the field, who is actually the better cover corner of the two, or will they continue to go at D.Hall and risk him jumping the ball with his new found confidence, not that he lacked any to begin with.

I like the situation we find ourselves in right now, but the bottom line is without putting pressure on Cutler up front like we did Hall doesn't come up with those four picks. One thing's for sure though, D.Hall is taking his craft much more seriously this year.

Can you believe Oakland actually cut this guy?

DeAngelo Hall named NFC defensive player of the week
Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall has been named, not surprisingly, the NFC defensive player of the week following his record-tying four-interception performance in Sunday's win over Chicago.

Hall, who leads the NFL with five interceptions on the year, returned the second of his four picks 92 yards for the touchdown that put the Redskins ahead for good. He tied a record held by 18 others, most recently Denver's Deltha O'Neal in 2001.

On Tuesday, Hall's jersey was sent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Redskins safety LaRon Landry was the NFC's defensive player of the week following an Oct. 10 victory over Green Bay.

As expected.

A brief side note - GTripp, that was very eye-opening about Hall. So he only defended 6 of 41 passes going into this game? Clearly this was a great game for Hall, but it makes me wonder whether I should be thanking the stars for having Hall... If perhaps he swatted down half of those passes aimed at him, we could stop other teams on 3rd downs and may not need any interceptions in the first place.. Hard to figure out.

People say Randy moss, Terrell Owens and Chad Ochoblahblah are bad
but really though cutler?
what a little punk.
That's like getting knocked out by someone then getting up and saying

You got picked off by one CB 4 times in one game.
How could you possibly think its okay to say he has no skill
and you would still throw at him every time.
maybe that's why you suck.

Obviously, the only 4 incomplete passes Hall had against him in that game was the 4 interceptions. So Cutler completed 60% of the passes he threw at Hall in this game.

That doesn't mean throwing at him 10 times (inaccurately) was a good idea. He tried a swing pass and a smoke pass to Hall's side, and he came up and made the tackle on both of them.
