Jake Grove is out there, he was a pro-bowler at one time. |
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
Open mind here. I can't help but wonder though is he the only "big name" FA we are working out or just the most controversial. I am very interested in knowing who the other 19 FA's are. Don't forget we had Brian Westbrook, Fast Willie, and Larry Johnson working out while Ryan Torain slipped through and turned out pretty good. Maybe if enough people are like WTF they won't notice Shanny signing a potential stud. Not only does it create a diversion, it puts pressure on McNabb.

I agree. This team has much more pressing needs than this proven bust. |
What a shot across the bow for McNabb.
Come on now, Russell is a project and no threat to any starting QB in this league. Kyle S. said they are working out a few other QBs too. Regardless of what happened Sunday, I think we would still be working guys out. This is a common thing coaches do during a bye. It's more of a scouting and info gathering process for the future. |
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
He played at a high level in college...work him out. If he can be trained sign him...I mean he can't be worse than having Rex as our #2 and if Young can get it together maybe he can too.
|
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
Who cares if he won't work out? I say give em a 2nd chance

He's way worse than Rex. Rex took a team to the Super Bowl. Last time I checked JR hasnt won a handful of games. He's shown what he is and he doesnt have what it takes to be a QB in the NFL. |
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
I thought that the circus left town last year, I guess that I was wrong.
This guy has more business wearing a bra than trying out for any NFL team, he is a bust. |
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
This is beyond horrible. These decisions reek of Snyder and Cerrato. Sure, another QB with a million dollar arm and a 10 cent brain. No one else in the NFL wants him, so who steps up? The Redskins.
I hope he doesnt sign here. for the love of god can QB stuff get any worse? McNabb is benched, people hate Rex Grossman, and now the reclamation project is Jamarcus Freaking Russell??
Ryan Leaf and Tony Mandrich are next. |
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
It's a workout people. This goes on every tues. in the NFL.
|
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
Are you guys serious this kinda shit can end our season. If you wanna look at him fine, but what terrible timing, what message are you sending. We are f*cked!
|
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
I can't believe the hate I'm seeing. We're working him out. If he sucks ass do you really think they will sign him? Come on guys, I thought you were smarter than that. Like Matty said we're probably just gathering info for the future. I doubt he'll be signed during this season.

Exactly. That said though, loyal readers of the WP may be wondering why this didn't happen earlier (probably bc he just got cleared of charges) since the hint about the skins interest was dropped in July http://www.thewarpath.net/716139-post209.html |
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
It's funny to hear everyone say he's a proven bust. What a load of crap. He might be a bust, but it's far from proven.
Considering how coddled and entitled elite athletes are coming out of college, it is no wonder most of them are not mature. Being a successful NFL player requires a ton of maturity and dedication -- something that's hard to get from a 21yo with a $50 million contract, who has been spoiled all their life. Add to that the fact that he was drafted into a dysfunctional organization, and the guy barely had any chance to learn any discipline. I'm not saying that maturity is his only problem, but it is his biggest. But, time and adversity are good catalysts for maturation, so it's possible he's ready to work hard. Time will tell. |
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
Seriously though, this is a good pick up. We need interior line help. In all honesty, I don't really see the harm here

I agree there is no harm in working him out but I just dont see why with all the other problems this team has they would bother wasting their time with this guy. |

Or why it was even necessary to be made public. |
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
He's obviously not a short term solution, he would need to sit for a year or two. Having a mentor like McNabb certainly wouldn't hurt.
JeMarcus needs to stay away from the southern cooking. Is he under 300 pounds? |

Neither have what it takes to be an NFL QB therefore which is worse is material. |
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
You can't question his raw talent, if he gets his head on straight he could be scary good. If he's dedicated to doing that, he could be a steal for somebody. For a minimal deal I wouldn't hesitate to give him a shot, especially if someone is vouching for him like Lucas.
Maybe a mentor like McNabb is what he needs. They're somewhat similar in talent makeup. Russell just never learned how to use his skills in the NFL. If we're down to Beck at QB...we're screwed anyways, so why not throw a not-so-distant #1 overall pick out there and see if he can finally catch on? OR, see if he can snap and put his 300-pound butt in the center of the line. Finally replace Rabach. |

I don't know, it's stupid we're even talking about this. If anyone but McNabb plays this year, it's because the coaching staff has a ridiculous amount of faith in Grossman for what he has accomplished in his career. |

Why not kick the tires?
I remember Mike Mayock said that Russell's pro-day was the most impressive he'd ever seen. Talent isn't the issue with Russell its everything else. |

It's not cutting into anything else their day doing to include him in a list of people they work out on what is commonly a day to work out unsigned players while the guys on the roster rest The advantage he has over Rex is 25 vs. 30, basically End of the day, I think this is probably a non-story. But like I linked earlier, Shanahan has been intrigued (for lack of a better word) in Russell since this past summer |
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
Plus you need someone to throw to the receivers you're working out, so why not give JR a look in the process?
|
re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
Id rather have Jamarcus Russell all jacked up on Purple Drank playing left tackle than Heyer!!!

re: Skins work out JaMarcus Russell (and a bunch of other free agents)
Maybe they worked him out at Center or Guard...

I'd take CrustyRedskin from Butthole Tx over Heyer, and yes, the word on the street is J. Russell was not taking, but making snaps! Heyer should've been gone two years ago! :frusty: |

The media is still going to have a field day with this one, simply because we continue to somehow find ourselves linked with every controversial figure in the NFL, if and when they become available. |

J. Cambell played at a high level in college also but alot of our fans wanted him gone. Now they want us to tryout a worse QB. How does that work? JC should still be here. |

JaMarcus Russell's agent, Ethan Lock "He's a big guy. He carries a lot of water weight, but he's lost a significant amount." #Redskins |
