Re: Titans to either trade or release Vince Young
Nobody likes bringing this up, but it seems like Fisher never took into Young from day one. For some reason, he never liked Young. And everyone keeps talking about how great a coach Fisher is. He's been there a long time and has no rings. Just saying.

Not sure what you're basing that on exactly, but Fisher did everything he could to mentor and develop VY. I think he gave him more than enough opportunities to mature and step up as a team leader. At some point VY has to take responsibility and ownership of his career. When VY had his suicide incident, it was Fisher out pounding the pavement looking for him. Sure doesn't sound like a uncaring guy to me. |
Re: Titans to either trade or release Vince Young
Well Fisher wanted Leinart (and he'll probably get him now) over Young. But it's not like he mistreated Young while he was there. And VY has to take some personal accountability here. He's got too much talent to waste it. But who's going to want to trade for a guy who can't keep his head on straight and owe him close to $13 million. He needs a stable situation, and I don't think he'll find that here. Not now, at least

Re: Titans to either trade or release Vince Young
To me Fisher has always been the type of coach who sets the perfect tone. He is players coach from the standpoint that he supports you professionally and personally but he expects you to do your job professionally and be accountable to the team. VY never really was. It can't be a coincidence that the only major problems Fisher has ever had publicly had with a player of his was a player he was forced to employ against his wishes. That type of environment is very unhealthy. It gives too much power to the player and is tough to handle from the coach's perspective emotionally. (Sounds familiar doesn't it)

And that's a very good point. And with that, did VY ever really have a chance? If the boss doesn't like you, there's gonna be problems. |

He may not have wanted him initially, but I think he went above and beyond trying to develop him. In the end VY is just a headcase that would have the same issues whether he is with a coach that wants him or not. I think Fisher tried his best to make it work, VY simply blew it on his end. |

No way he could thrive with a task master like Shanahan. He needs a coach who will coddle him to a degree, that's not going to happen with Mike. |

Re: Titans to either trade or release Vince Young
First off I am not a big VY fan at all.
But that being said... I would be ok grabbing VY in a trade for AH. We're not gonna get more for AH so why not take a gamble? Now there's no way I wanna pay VY $13M or whatever he's due but maybe some kind of incentive contract could work. As for dealing with the Shannys... I think it could be ok. VY has very little public goodwill so fans will support the Shannys when they screw up the PR game again. |

Re: Titans to either trade or release Vince Young
Vince Young is junk. Knowing that the Titans are willing to just release him means he will be released. He will get picked up as a backup. What a bust!!!

Re: Titans to either trade or release Vince Young
Who would you rather have VY or Sexy Rexy?? I'm going with VY if we can trade him for AH.
|
Re: Titans to either trade or release Vince Young
I'd rather have Rex.
At least Rex won't a) try to kill himself or b) get pissy with the fans. Vince Young is such a head case. He's like AH without the ego. Instead of blaming his problems on everyone else like AH, VY beats himself up and blames his problems on himself.. Then takes it out on the crowd. Sorry Vince. The crowd paid to see you choke, they can boo if they want. If he's going to be a pro football player, he better have a psychiatrist on speed dial waiting to talk to him Monday morning. I think the guy still has demons and I don't think he's worth the risk. |
Re: Titans to either trade or release Vince Young
2010-11 Stats: Pass Yds: 1255 Yds/Game: 139.4 TD: 10 Int: 4 QB Rating: 98.6
Solid stats IMO. Yards per game is a little low but he's young and still teachable to a new offense. I don't see why everyone is so opposed to the guy? Not like we have anyone better right now! |

There's never been a question regarding Vince Youngs maturity until he was placed in a situation where the coach did not want him. I'll guarantee you that Vince Young will have no problems next season. And he didn't go above and beyond trying to develop him after benching him after 2 seasons. Now Alex Smith, that's one person where the coaches went above and beyond (7 years) trying to develop him into an NFL QB. |
Re: Titans to either trade or release Vince Young
You done crossed the line with your Alex Smith bashing. Only been in the league six years and every year he's had a different coordinator.

WHy the head coach said either he goes or I go so everyone knows he will be released. |

Young's skill set does not match what's needed to be a successful pro QB. |

So all of his problems to date can be attributed to Fisher not wanting to draft him? Doesn't that thought alone kinda scream maturity issue? |

1. Vince Young is no Michael Vick they are not even close to being the same type of player and they never were. 2. This isn't in reply to you but I need to get it off of my chest. Cam Newton is not an NFL caliber QB. Can he be successfull at the next level? Certainly, but not as a QB. In a few years people are going to be saying "Cam Who?". |

Sounds like a certain Oakland Raiders qb. |
Re: Titans to either trade or release Vince Young
The Titan's offense was limited due to VY's weaknesses which is primarily why Fisher wanted him off this roster and another QB to run it. To even think we want a guy who's going to potentially limit our offense is beyond ludicrous.
